Ruth Bradbury
E. Ruth Bradbury, 92, of 420 S. Iowa, Winfield, died Nov. 29, 1999, at Good Samaritan Village.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home until 9 tonight.
A memorial has been established with the First United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through the church or funeral home.
Bradbury was born Aug. 2, 1907, in Quinlan, Okla., to Cortez E. and Eva L. (Wylie) Washburn. In 1921 the family moved to Winfield. She graduated from Winfield High School in 1925 and attended Southwestern College.
On Feb. 3, 1926, she married Hermon P. Bradbury in Wichita, and they made their home in Winfield. Her husband died in November 1961.
Bradbury was employed as a receptionist for Dr. B.A. Nickels for 12 years. She was also employed at Brad's Magneto Electric for several years.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Lula E. George, Waynoka, Okla., and Leatha Marie Mahan, Oklahoma City.
A daughter, Barbara L. Bradbury, died in 1945.
Hannah Shepard
LIBERAL - Hannah Leigh Shepard, daughter of Lance and Jennifer Miller Shepard of Liberal, was stillborn Nov. 30, 1999, at Southwest Medical Center in Liberal.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Liberal Cemetery. The Rev. Wyatt Carpenter will officiate. Miller Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
In addition to her parents, Hannah is survived by her grandparents, Steve and Glenda Shepard, Johnson, and Allen and Marjorie Miller, Cambridge; and her great-grandparents, Virgil and Faleta Shepard and Tom Little, all of Johnson, Aulden and Joanne Miller, Sun City, Ariz., Ralph and Evelyn Bloomhall, Phoenix, Robert and Maxine Tredway, Winfield, and Beatrice "Bee" DeVore, Arkansas City.
Wenton Stickel
PONCA CITY - Wenton Aaron Stickel, 81, of Ponca City, died Nov. 30, 1999, in Winfield.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Riverview Cemetery
in Arkansas City. The Rev. Chuck Heyer will officiate.
Memorials have been established with the Friendship Feast of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Ponca City and Hospice Inc. Contributions may be made through Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home in Arkansas City.
Stickel was born Dec. 31, 1917, in Arkansas City, to Frank and Magnolia (Wright) Stickel. He was raised by his grandparents, Robert and Jessie Wright, after the death of his mother when he was about two years old. He graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1937.
A veteran of World War II, Stickel served in the U.S. Army.
From 1946 to 1983 he worked for Continental Oil Co. where he was a clerk.
On Sept. 1, 1957, he married Marianna Goff.
Survivors include his wife, Marianna Stickel, and a son, Jeffery Stickel, both of Ponca City; and a brother, Robert Stickel, Knights Landing, Calif.
Raymond Muret
Raymond Muret, 83, of 1605 E. 19th, Winfield, died Dec. 1, 1999, at William Newton Memorial Hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m Friday in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. The Rev. Ellie Foster will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, south of Strother Field.
Memorials have been established with the Salvation Army and Tisdale United Methodist Church.
Muret was born June 1, 1916, in Winfield, to William M. and Beulah (Swim) Muret. He was raised in the Hackney area, graduated from Winfield High School and attended Kansas State University.
Muret farmed in Cowley County for many years, first near Cambridge and later near Silver Creek.
On April 25, 1942, he married Helen Westin in Winfield.
Muret had been a member of the Box, Cambridge, Liberty and Country View school boards. He also served on the boards of directors of the Production Credit Association of Howard, Farmers Home Administration, Rural Water District 5 and Soil Conservation Commission. He was a member of Tisdale United Methodist Church and had been a leader of the Liberty and Cambridge 4-H clubs.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Muret, and a son, William E. Muret, both of Winfield; two daughters, Jeanne Schmitt, Great Bend, and Ann Wiles, Marienthal; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Clarence Hamlin
Services for Clarence Beryl Hamlin, 84, who died Nov. 22, 1999, were held at 2 p.m. Nov. 24 at Grandview United Methodist Church. The Revs. Connie Wooldridge and Gordon Smith officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Rose Marie Watt was the organist. Richard Clower sang "In the Garden," "The Old Rugged Cross" and "The Lord's Prayer."
Honorary casket bearers were Theo Friday, Melvin Hamlin, Jean Rozell, Richard Warren and Eldon White.
Casket bearers were Todd Conley, Terry Duethman, Mike Finuf, Marvin Hamlin, Hosey Harper and Mark Lewis.
A memorial has been established with Grandview United Methodist Church.
Wayne Keely
UDALL - M. Wayne Keely, 87, of Udall, died Nov. 30, 1999, at his home.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Udall Nazarene Church. The Rev. Sam Lever will officiate. Burial will be in Star Valley Cemetery.
Friends may call at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home in Winfield from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Udall First Responders or any charity.
Keely was born Aug. 25, 1912, on the family farm west of Rock, to Sidney Wilson and Ollie (Wilson) Keely. He was raised on the farm and educated in area schools.
On Nov. 20, 1937, he married Ella H. Engle in Rose Hill. She died Dec. 28, 1993.
Keely worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation for 31 years. He was Udall city marshal for 13 years and Cowley County undersheriff for several years.
He was a member of the International Order of Odd Fellows and helped start the Udall Senior Citizens. He was also a member of the Nazarene Church.
Survivors include a son, William W. Keely, Arkansas City; three daughters, Sharon Fulger, Fort Wayne, Ind., and Sandra Murray and Patty Jo Hedden, both of Udall; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
A son, Gerald Wayne Keely, preceded him in death.
Sherlah King
Sherlah (Jarvis) King, 91, of 921 E. Ninth, Winfield, died Dec. 1, 1999, at her home.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Rick Thornton will officiate. A private burial will take place in Highland Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with Safe Homes Inc. and Grace Episcopal Outreach Fund.
King was born Nov. 22, 1908, in Winfield, to Henry Milton and Blanche Amelia (Bevis) Jarvis. She graduated from Winfield High School in 1926 and attained her bachelor's degree in home economics from Southwestern College in 1930. In 1932 she received a master's degree in home economics from Columbia University in New York City.
On Jan. 20, 1935, she married John Franklin King in Winfield. He died Nov. 23, 1995.
King was a member of First United Methodist Church, Chapter FD of P.E.O., Sorosis, Kappa Omicron Phi home economics honorary, Friday Book Club and American Association of University Women.
Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Austin, Plantation, Fla.; a brother, Lawrence Jarvis, Winfield; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, William Jarvis and an infant, and a daughter, Karen Summers.
Jean Smith
Services for Norma "Jean" Smith, 65, who died Nov. 28, 1999, were held at 2 p.m. Dec. 1 in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. Pastor Larry DeOrnellis officiated. Burial was in Udall Cemetery.
Heather Griggs and Mark Glasgow sang "Amazing Grace." "In the Garden" was also presented.
Casket bearers were Harry Elstun, Bill Hilderbrand, Ray Holmes, Paul Pittman, Bryan Smith and Chuck Smith.
A memorial has been established with the Udall Recreation Commission.
Melven Wesbrook
MOLINE - Melven Everett Wesbrook, 85, longtime resident of Moline, died Nov. 30, 1999, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard and at 2 p.m. in Dexter Cemetery. Pastor Ted Smith will officiate.
A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.
Wesbrook was born June 30, 1914, at Hooser, in Cowley County, to Clyde D. and Ada Rachael (Wise) Wesbrook. He attended school in the Hooser and Dexter areas.
On Sept. 18, 1937, he married Winifred Catherine Wilson in Winfield. They made their home in the Moline community most of their lives. A farmer and rancher, Wesbrook also worked on oil leases and was employed by R.E. Williams Veterinary Clinic in Moline until his retirement several years ago.
He was a longtime member of Kansas Farm Bureau.
Survivors include his wife, Winifred Wesbrook, Moline; a daughter, Melva Harris, Boise, Idaho; his stepmother, Mildred Wesbrook, Winfield; his half-brothers, Dr. Wilson Wesbrook, Wichita, and Gale Wesbrook, Winfield; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Ruth Bradbury
Services for Esther Ruth Bradbury, 92, who died Nov. 29, 1999, were held at 2 p.m. Dec. 2 in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Fred Houston officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Vocal music included "In the Garden" and "Nearer, My God, to Thee."
Casket bearers were Clyde Booth, Don Donley, H.B. Garvey, Larry Garvey, Mickey George, Richard George and Everett Stewart.
