MILLER, Montine Miller, 78 years old, of the Farmington Community, Effingham, KS., formerly of Glenwood, AR., died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005 at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, KS.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 PM on Friday, Jan. 21st, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison, Ks. The body will be moved to the Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood, AR. Visitation there will be on Monday, Jan. 24th, with a graveside service on Tuesday, Jan. 25th at the Lodi Cemetery, Glenwood, AR. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Farmington Christian Church and may be sent in care of the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home.

Montine Lay was born on June 11, 1926 in Cedar Point, Arkansas the daughter of Dewey and Florida (Wilson) Lay. She moved to Farmington, KS on March 13, 1989. She was a housewife and homemaker. She was a member of the Farmington Christian Church and enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed visiting her friends at the Effingham Senior Center, gardening, traveling and the outdoors.

She was married to Arnett Duggan on Oct. 12, 1946 in Lodi, AR., Mr. Duggan preceded her in death on Oct. 15, 1957. She later was married to Joe Miller in 1958. Mr. Miller also preceded her in death on April 29, 1971.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Jerline and Bill Green, Effingham, KS., a son and his wife, Dewey and Sandy Duggan, Glenwood, AR., six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren,

BYERS, Robert Bruce Byers, Jr. 80, Atchison, KS passed away Saturday, January 15, 2005 at his home.

Graveside services will be 1:30 PM Friday, January 28, 2005 at Leavenworth National Cemetery, Leavenworth, KS. Visitation will be from 11:30-12:30 PM Friday, January 28, 2005 at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. The body has been cremated under direction of the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Atchison Humane Society and left in care of the funeral home.

Mr. Byers was born March 29, 1924 in Denova, Colorado the son of Robert Bruce and Verda Esther (Bair) Byers. He attended grade school in Plainville, KS and Natoma, KS. He attended high school in Downs, KS. In 1941 he attended Sheet Metal School and the National Youth Association in Wichita, KS. He was drafted in 1943, serving in the United States Army from 1943-1946 and served in the United States Air Force from 1946-1964, serving in both WWII and the Korean Conflict. Robert retired with the rank of Staff Sergeant. After the service Robert worked at Defense Industrial Storage Facilities, south of Atchison for 19 years. He was a member of American Legion Post #6, VFW Post #1175 and the Air Force Sergeant Association Chapter #804.

Survivors include at niece Pam Ellis and her husband David of Springfield, MO; nephew Ray Bomberger, Jr and his wife Karla of Osage City, KS; Great niece Christina Anderson; Great nephew Christopher Hargrove and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces great nephew, and great great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Marvin L. Byers, Charles T. Byers, Ralph K. Byers and George Byers Bair. Sisters Birdie Mae Paget and Ramona B. Viles.

AUCHARD, Helen Lavina Auchard, 63, Atchison, KS passed away Thursday, January 13, 2005 at her home.

Funeral services will be 7:00 PM Wednesday, January 19, 2005 at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:30 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial at Russett Cemetery, Russett, Oklahoma. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leavenworth Guidance Center and left in care of the funeral home.

Mrs. Auchard was born May 21, 1941 in Ravia, OK the daughter of David and Leet (Pfortmiller) Eggenberg, II. She graduated from Ravia High School. She moved to the Atchison area in 1987 and worked in many restaurants in the area over the years including the Wagon Wheel. She was employed at St. Benedict’s Abbey at a dietitian and cook. Mrs. Auchard was a member of the New Testament Christ Church. Helen enjoyed listening to gospel music, cooking and going to the casino. She loved being around people and always showed it with a hug.

Helen married Oliver Auchard, III on August 2, 1991. He preceded her in death on June 10, 2004. She is also preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her daughters Mary Lincoln of Lansing, KS; Kim Shackleford. Sons Doug Shackleford and Brett Shackleford. 4 grandchildren. Brothers John Eggenberg of Tishmingo, OK and David Eggenberg, III of Davis OK. and numerous nieces and nephews.

WILLIAMSON, Donald K. Williamson, 69 years old, of Atchison, KS. was found dead in his residence on Saturday, January 15, 2005.

A memorial service may will be scheduled at a later date- the body has been cremated. Interment of the cremated remains will be in the Sunset Memory Gardens, Atchison. The Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Williamson was born on July 20, 1935 in Dawson, NE, the son of Loring and Julia Belle (Boatright) Williamson. He attended schools in Honey Creek, NE. Mr. Williamson was disabled with polio as a young child.

His parents, a brother, Robert L. Williamson preceded him in death.

STENSRUD, Clyde Lloyd Stensrud, 84, Atchison, KS passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at his home.

Private family services will be at a later date. The body has been cremated under direction of Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home.

Mr. Stensrud was born April 18, 1920 in Walback, NE., the son of George P. and Josephine (Regnary) Stensrud. He attended Clingan Country School north of Nortonville, KS. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He retired from the Missouri Pacific Railroad after 36 years. Clyde enjoyed the outdoors, reading National Geographic Magazines and learning about history.

He is survived by his sisters Lillie Truman and Inez Gilliand both of Atchison, KS and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Georgia Olsen and Lillian Stensrud and an infant brother Jacky Stensrud.

JONES, SAM A. JONES, JR., 66 years old, of Atchison, Ks. died Thursday, January 13, 2005 at his home unexpectedly.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M, Monday, January 17, 2005 at St. Benedicts Church with Fr. Gerard Senecal. O.S.B. as Celebrant. Burial will be in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Atchison. A prayer service will held at 7:00 PM on Sunday, Jan. 16th, 2005 with visitation to follow until 8:30 PM at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Brian Jones Scholarship Fund at St. Benedicts Church, the Dooley Center at Mt. St. Scholastica Convent, or to Mt. Vernon Cemetery Association.

Sam was born on December 4, 1938 in Wathena, KS., the son of Albert Sam and Irene (Rosenauer) Jones, Sr. He graduated from Atchison High School and had attended Northwest Missouri State College, Maryville, MO.. Mr. Jones had severed in the National Guard. He worked as a marketing representative for 35 years for Federated Insurance Company, before retiring in 1996. He also owned and operated for the last six years the Vigil Light Candles Co., along with his wife out of their home. He was a member of the St. Benedicts Church, was an oblate of St. Benedicts Abbey, served as a Eucharistic Minister at church. He was a member of the North East Kansas County Extension Board and recently elected President of the Mt. Vernon Cemetery Board. Sam was an avid K.U. Basketball fan, enjoyed gardening, yard work, creating stain glass and bird watching.

He was married to Nancy Hiner on August 25, 1957 at the First Christian Church, Atchison, KS. Mrs. Nancy Jones survives of the home. Additional survivors include a daughter, Tracy Jones, St. Paul, MN. His parents and a son Brian Jones, (Nov. 10, 1985) preceded him in death.

GARRISON, Marvin D. Garrison, 73 years old, formerly of Atchison, KS., died Monday, January 10, 2005 at the Providence Medical Center, Medford, OR.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 15th, 2005 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, with Rev. Robert Ziegler officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Atchison, KS. The family will receive friends from 7 :00 to 8:30 PM on Friday, Jan. 14th, 2005 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison, KS. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Trinity Lutheran School Endowment Association.

Mr. Garrison was born on March 1, 1931 in Pattonsburg, Mo the son of Merle E. and Lois M. (Beeler) Garrison. Mr. Garrison was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He owned and operated the West Lanes Bowling Alley, Atchison for several years. He also was a pattern maker, and owned and operated the Atchison Pattern Works for 29 years. Mr. Garrison was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served on the Board of Directors, as an Elder, an Usher and a member of Pastors Bible Class. He enjoyed traveling, his family and was an avid University of Kansas Fan.

Marvin was married to Betty Lou Crawford on August 26, 1950 in Atchison, KS. Betty preceded him in death on April 16, 2002. He was later married to Lois (Holland) Amaya on June 10, 2003. They moved to Klamath Falls, Oregon. Mrs. Lois Garrison survives of the home in Oregon. Additional survivors include a son; Gary Garrison, Topeka, KS., two daughters, Ramona and her husband David Howell, Arlington, Tx., and Janet and her husband Larry Burns, Newnan, GA., a brother, Ron and his wife Brenda Garrison, Atchison, KS., and six grandchildren. His parents, and one sister also preceded him in death.

BLASING, Max E. Blasing, 71, Atchison, KS died Sunday, January 9, 2005 at Kansas University Medical Center, Kansas City, KS.

Graveside services and burial will be at 11:00 AM Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7:00-8:30 PM Tuesday at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:00 PM Memorial contributions may be made to help with funeral expenses and left in care of the funeral home.

Mr. Blasing was born July 22, 1933 in Manhattan, Kansas the son of John W. and Letah (Teas) Blasing. He graduated from High School in Manhattan, KS. He was a U.S Navy veteran. He served as a police officer for Manhattan, KS. He worked for Kansas State University in maintenance and later in maintenance department with Benedictine College. for 23 years retiring in 1995. Max was a member of the American Legion Post #6. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching wildlife, going to the casino and his two dogs.

He married Norma Harvey on June 29, 1957 in Manhattan, KS, she survives of the home. Additional survivors include three sons; Kevin Blasing and his wife Darlene of Atchison; Keith Blasing of Atchison; and Kurtis Blasing of Atchison. Four daughters Carolyn and her husband William Hall of Gower, MO; Karen and her husband Steve Bartlett, Camdenton, MO., Kim Blasing, Atchison, KS., and Letha Gerdus and her companion, Bruce Kimmi, Atchison, KS., a brother, Jim Blasing, Pueblo, CO., eleven grandchildren and one great grandson. His parents, two brothers, and a sister preceded him in death.
