Linda Lantz

ARKANSAS CITY - Linda M. Lantz, 57, of Arkansas City, died Jan. 8, 2000, at her residence.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church.

A memorial has been established with Hospice Inc. Contributions may be made through Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.

Lantz was born May 30, 1942, to Fred and Anita (Coombs) Miller in Gooding, Idaho. When she was young, the family moved to the Winfield area where she attended school. She worked as an aide at the Winfield State Hospital & Training Center for several years and attended Hackney Community Baptist Church.

Lantz is survived by her brother, Fred Miller, Gooding, Idaho; and her four sisters, Karen Bannon, Winfield, Sandra Becker, Hays, Cheryl Clark, Emmett, Idaho, and Marylin Goodro, Bliss, Idaho.

Sharon Leith

ARKANSAS CITY - Sharon K. Leith, 45, of Arkansas City, died Jan. 9, 2000, at home.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Rindt-Erdmann Funeral Home.

Leith was born June 14, 1954, in Quebec, Canada. She was adopted by William Harry and Melissa Snyder and on Nov. 10, 1954, moved to Arkansas City where she lived and attended schools.

In 1971 she married Alan D. Leith.

She attended Redlands Community College in El Reno, Okla., where she completed her nursing degree. She worked as a registered nurse at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Oklahoma City. She was a member of Crossroads Cathedral Church in Oklahoma City and a member of the American Nurses Association.

Leith is survived by her husband, Alan Leith, Arkansas City; three sons, Tracy Head, Phoenix, Rocky Leith, Newcastle, and Christopher Leith, Norman, Okla.; a stepdaughter, Amanda Nicole Cooper, Winfield, a brother, Joseph Snyder, St. John; and five grandchildren.

Virginia Clift

Virginia L. Clift, 66, of Winfield, died Jan. 8, 2000, at William Newton Memorial Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Elliott Schaeffer Mortuary of Caldwell is in charge of arrangements.

Clift was born on May 31, 1933, in Grant County to Ralph and Esther Hedrick.

She married Bobby C. Clift on Jan. 10, 1953. He died on Nov. 20, 1993.

A homemaker, she was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses and enjoyed personal Bible study as well as volunteering her time to go door to door to help others learn about the Bible.

She is survived by a sister, Tena F. Nance, Oklahoma City, and a cousin, Josie McDannald.

Bertie Holiday

GEUDA SPRINGS - Bertie Grace Holiday, 89, of Geuda Springs, died Jan. 12, 2000, at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Wellington.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Geuda Springs Community Church. The Rev. David Lemke will officiate. Burial will be in the Geuda Springs Cemetery.

Friends may call at Hawks Funeral Home from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.

A memorial has been established with the Geuda Springs Community Church. Contributions may be made at the funeral home or the church.

Holiday was born March 6, 1910, in Red Boiling Springs, Tenn., to William Bedford and Armissy (Bean) Wilson.

On Sept. 8, 1928, she married Carl Albert Holiday in Toledo, Ohio. They moved to Paducah, Ky., then to Kansas 60 years ago. They lived in Parsons and Wichita before moving to Geuda Springs in 1948. Mr. Holiday died March 16, 1952.

She owned and operated a self-service laundry in Geuda Springs for several years. She was a member of the Geuda Springs Community Church.

Survivors include a son, Jack L. Holiday, Oakley, Calif.; two daughters, Wilma "Billie" Neises, Geuda Springs, and Linda Carver, Braman, Okla.; a sister, Elma Spivey, Sylvania, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, four stepgreat-grandchildren and three stepgreat-great-grandchildren.

Bette Lank

WICHITA - Bette J. Lank, 78, of Wichita, died Jan. 11, 2000.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Senter-Smith Mortuary in Mulvane. The Rev. Lyle Mitchell will officiate. Burial will be in Udall Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home until 8 tonight.

Lank was born Dec. 23, 1921, in Wichita, to Edward Garfield and Rose Bell (Snyder) Parcel.

She married Stewart W. Lank in Kansas.

She had been a retail clerk with Sears Roebuck & Co. and Montgomery Ward.

Survivors include a son, Joe Lank, and a daughter, Minona Kay Lank, both of Wichita.

Bernice Taladay

SHENANDOAH, Iowa - Bernice E. Taladay, 78, of Shenandoah, formerly of Winfield, died Dec 31, 1999, at Garden View Care Center.

Services were held Jan. 4, 2000, at Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home. The Rev. Marcia Gilbert officiated. Burial was Jan. 10 in Pleasant Hill Memorial Gardens, Calhoun County, W.Va.

Taladay was born June 21, 1921, in Glenville, W.Va., to Elmer Ellsworth and Malinda Elizabeth (Yoke) Stewart.

In 1940 she married Earl Everett Gordon in Miami, Okla. They made their home in Winfield.

She later married Harry Taladay and moved to Iowa.

Survivors include three sons, Earl Edward Gordon, Winfield, Jim Gordon, Belton, Mo., and Virgil Gordon, Pratt; and four daughters, Sharon Cluster, Belle Plaine, Karen O'Dell, Pleasant Hill, Mo., Betty Stiverson, Clarinda, Iowa, and Judy Taladay, Glenwood, Iowa.

Gerald Beach

Gerald A. Beach, 87, of Route 3, Winfield, died Jan. 13, 2000, at Winfield Rest Haven.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday at Holy Name Catholic Church. The Rev. Michael Maybrier will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Friends may call at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home until 8 tonight.

A memorial has been established with Holy Name Catholic Church.

Beach was born Oct. 28, 1912, in Winfield, to George Albert and Edna Lois (Crane) Beach. He attended Pleasant Valley grade school and graduated from Winfield High School before attaining his accounting degree at Southwestern College.

In 1939 he married Dolores Dopita in Russell.

Beach worked at Farley Machine Shop as an accountant while also working as a machinist and farmer. Later he worked for General Electric until retiring.

He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

A son, Roger Beach, preceded him in death.

Survivors include five sons, Richard, Dennis, Glenn, David and Phillip Beach, and two daughters, Gayle Rollins and Tricia Johnson, all of Winfield; 23 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Rose Marie Hankins

Rose Marie Hankins, 58, of 121 Michigan, Winfield, died Jan. 13, 2000, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Miles Funeral Service. Private family inurnment services will take place at a later date.

The family will receive visitors at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday.

A memorial has been established with Hospice Inc. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Hankins was born Jan. 13, 1942, in Winfield, to Guy and Georgiena (Piersol) Morgan. She attended Winfield area schools and graduated from Winfield High School in 1960.

In 1968 she married Milton Hankins.

She was a licensed mental health technician at Winfield State Hospital & Training Center for more than 35 years, retiring in 1997. Following retirement, she worked in the cafeteria at Winfield Middle School.

Survivors include a son, Morgan Hankins, Redford, Mich.; and four sisters, Vida Stout, Tulsa, and Ruby Doll, Karen Floyd and Linda Hankins, all of Winfield.

Anna Pair

Anna May Pair, 76, a resident of Walnut Towers in Winfield, died Jan. 14, 2000, at Cumbernauld Village in Winfield.

Private family internment services will be held at a later date. Miles Funeral Service had charge of arrangements.

Pair was born May 28, 1923, in Havana, in Chautauqua County, to Robert A. and Eleanor C. (Decker) Howell. She was raised in Havana and Cedar Vale and attended Cedar Vale schools.

She had resided in Wichita, Pascagola, Miss., and Pensacola, Fla., before moving to Winfield during the late 1980s.

She had served with the Foster Grandparent Program at USD 465 for nine years.

Survivors include a son, Louis Bohannan, Salt Lake City, Utah; a daughter by choice, Jeanette Vratil, Winfield; a brother, Louie Howell, Greensborough, N.C.; and two sisters, Nellie Miller, Grenola, and Mabel Duncan, Cedar Vale.
