James Havens
CAMBRIDGE - James O. Havens, 50, of Cambridge, died Feb. 7, 2000, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Burial will be in Burden Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home until 9 tonight.
A memorial has been established with the Burden United Methodist Church. Contributions may be made through the church or funeral home.
Havens was born March 5, 1949, in Winfield, to Cecil Owen and Norma (Moss) Havens. Raised and educated in Burden, he was a 1967 graduate of Central High School in Burden.
In 1972 he married Karen Bailey. They later divorced.
In 1989 he married Tammie Tapia, and they also divorced.
A career carpenter and welder, Havens was employed for many years by various building contractors in Kansas. He resided in Rock and Douglass before moving to Cambridge in 1996.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Tara Taylor, Arkansas City, and Carrie Havens, Pittsburg; a sister, Veita K. Miguez, Bay City, Texas; and two grandsons.
Barbara Dobbs
Barbara Jean Dobbs, 71, of 111 E. 17th, Winfield, died Feb. 9, 2000, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be in Tisdale Cemetery.
Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service until 7 this evening and until noon Saturday.
Memorials have been established with the First Church of the Nazarene and the National Scleraderma Association. Contributions may be made through the church or funeral home.
Dobbs was born April 18, 1928, on a farm near Rock, to Ralph Dean and Emma (Janke) Falkingham. She attended Rock schools and Winfield High School.
On Oct. 19, 1944, she married Glenn J. Dobbs in Sedan. They lived in Colorado and Texas before moving to Winfield in 1949. The couple lived and worked on farms in the Tisdale and Winfield areas. Mr. Dobbs' work with Boeing took them to Washington and Massachusetts for a brief time. Her husband died July 13, 1985.
A homemaker, Dobbs was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include six sons, Ron Dobbs, Denver, Larry Dobbs and Chad Dobbs, both of Winfield, Dennis Dobbs, Atlanta, Roger Dobbs, Burden, and Dale Dobbs, Arkansas City; four daughters, Carol Johnson, Arkansas City, Ginny Mazzoni, Wichita, Donna Hunt, El Dorado, and Mary Dobbs, Winfield; her father, Ralph Falkingham, Winfield; a brother, Elmer Falkingham, Buffalo, Mo.; two sisters, Janet Miller, Medicine Lodge, and Phyllis Wilcoxen, Winfield; 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Matilda Huddle
SEDAN - Matilda Blanche Huddle, 93, formerly of Cedar Vale, died Feb. 9, 2000, at Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Wheeler Funeral Home in Cedar Vale. Burial will be in Round Mound Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the Maude Carpenter Children's Home.
Huddle was born July 7, 1906, in Cowley County, to Hugh and Catherine (Sickles) Dudgeon. She was raised in the Cedar Vale area.
In August 1928 she married Everette Huddle. He died in 1982.
Huddle attended Pittsburg State University. She taught in rural schools in Chautauqua County and at the Cedar Vale grade school.
A member of the Cedar Vale Church of Christ, she was also active in several social groups.
Survivors include a son, Curtis Huddle, Independence; a daughter, Judith French, Grenola; 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Bert Williams
Services for Bert O. Williams, 97, who died Jan. 30, 2000, were held at 1 p.m. Feb. 2 in Highland Cemetery. The Rev. K.B. Murray officiated.
A memorial has been established with the First Church of God in Blackwell.

Mickey Williams
GRAINOLA, Okla. - Morgan Lewis "Mickey" Williams, 87, of Grainola, died Feb. 10, 2000, in Cedar Vale Community Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Grainola United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Cedar Creek Cemetery
west of Cedar Vale. Wheeler Funeral Home of Cedar Vale is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established with the Grainola United Methodist Church.
Williams was born April 25, 1912, in Purcell, Okla., to Schyler Lewis and Florence (Suddith) Williams.
On Feb. 16, 1935, he married Ruby Ellen Custer in Barnsdall, Okla. In 1935 they moved to the Grainola area where he farmed and worked as a cowboy for Bud Franks for 20 years and for several other ranchers.
He was a member of the Grainola United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Ellen Williams, and two sons, Morgan Leon Williams and Charles "Leb" Williams, all of Grainola; three daughters, Louise Pontious, Shidler, Okla., Mary Ellen Harvey, Hewins, and Dora Florena Atherton, Wichita; four half-sisters, Bettie Barnhill, Meridian, Miss., Alma Rose Dixon, Moore, Okla., Roma Jean Woodward, Kerrville, Texas, and Gayle Dean Feeney, Palm Springs, Calif.; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Josephine Bennington
D. Josephine Bennington, 68, of Winfield, formerly of Arkansas City, died Feb. 3, 2000, at Walnut Hill Nursing Center.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Parker Cemetery
in Arkansas City. The Rev. Guy E. Rendoff will officiate.
A memorial has been established with the First United Methodist Church of Arkansas City. Contributions may be made through Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home in Arkansas City.
Bennington was born Aug. 18, 1931, to Benjamin and Cassie (Hays) Rogers. She graduated from El Dorado High School in 1949.
On Oct. 1, 1953, she married Clifton L. Bennington in El Dorado where they made their home. In 1983 she moved to Winfield and in 1988 to Arkansas City.
A homemaker, she was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Arkansas City and a past member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion ladies' auxiliaries.
Her husband, Clifton Bennington, and a son, Clifford Bennington, preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Gandolph and Karla Sultz, both of Arkansas City; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Betty Estes
SOUTH HAVEN - Services for Betty Estes, 64, who died Feb. 1, 2000, were held at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 4 in Rose Hill Cemetery
at South Haven. The Rev. Jerry Crenshaw officiated.
Gary Appleton recited a poem, "For Mimi," written by Jacob Muller. Julie Appleton gave the remembrance, "Things My Mama Taught Me."
Special music recorded by Julie Estes-Appleton included Garth Brooks' "The Dance"; "Amazing Grace," performed by Nicholas Muller; Neil Diamond's "I Am, I Said," and the "Adagio" from a Mozart clarinet concerto.
Casket bearers were Rickey Muller, Nicholas Muller, Jacob Muller, Troy Rebold, LeeRoy Nally, Bobby Nally and Gary Appleton.
Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Serenity Lyons
OXFORD - Serenity Rose Lyons, infant daughter of Karen Marie Lyons of Oxford, was born and died Feb. 2, 2000, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Services were at 1 p.m. Feb. 6 in Oxford Cemetery. Bishop Robert Atkinson officiated. Oliver-Hawks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Survivors in addition to her mother are a brother, Dustin Miller, Mulvane; and her grandmother, Marilyn Lyons, Jackson, Wyo.
Alice Cooper
HUTCHINSON - Alice I. Cooper, 90, formerly of Winfield, died Feb. 6, 2000, in the Hutchinson hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. The Rev. Jerre Nolte will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with Grace United Methodist Church and Southwestern College.
Cooper was born April 14, 1900, in Buffalo, to Omer and Ollie (Fulmer) Cook. She was educated in the Buffalo area.
On April 17, 1933, she married H. Don Cooper. They moved to Winfield in 1947. Her husband died May 23, 1982.
Cooper was a homemaker and active in Grace United Methodist Church. She also was a member of the Winfield Country Club, bridge clubs and other social clubs.
Survivors include a sister, Opal Jones, Inman; and nieces and nephews, including Kenneth Jones, Hutchinson.
