Allen Nelson
Services for Allen N. Nelson were held at 2 p.m. March 22, 2000, in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Rick Thornton officiated. Burial was in Clearwater Cemetery.
Lori Schwartz was the organist. Vocal music included "How Great Thou Art" and "Go Rest High on That Mountain," sung by Sandy Griffith.
Honorary casket bearers were Eldon Nelson and Homer Bowlin. Casket bearers were Shane Fleenor, Travis Wells, Ronnie Nelson, Mike Moon, Virgil Barnes and Cleo Brown.
Marjorie Osmundson
Services for Marjorie Osmundson were held at 2 p.m. March 22, 2000, at Grace United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jerre Nolte officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Louise Schuppener was the organist, and James Schuppener was the vocalist. Music included "Amazing Grace" and "The Old Rugged Cross."
Casket bearers were Mark and Michael Osmundson, Bob Freeman, Jim Buterbaugh, Don Berrie and Brice Evans.
A memorial has been established with the Grace United Methodist Church Kitchen Fund.
Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Eddie Woods
PARK CITY - Albert Edwin "Eddie" Jones, 52, of Park City, died March 21, 2000, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Joseph Campus in Wichita.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Severy United Methodist Church. The Rev. Kibum Kim will officiate. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in the Benton cemetery.
Memorials have been established with the Severy United Methodist Church and the American Heart Association. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.
Woods was born Nov. 14, 1947, at The Dalles, Ore., to Hazel Marie (Doyle) and Norman Udell Woods. He graduated from Fredonia High School in 1966, attended Southeast Kansas Technical School in Coffeyville and worked as a mechanic.
In 1968 he married Christina Ann Whistler in Neodesha. They later divorced.
Woods lived and worked in Fredonia, Great Bend, Longton and Wichita and was employed in recent years by Koch Industries in Wichita.
He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Severy United Methodist Church.
He donated his eyes to the Kansas Odd Fellows Eye Bank.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Woods, Park City; a son, Norman Byers, Georgia; three daughters, Ann Woods, Neodesha, Barbara Cox, Dearing, and Sue Ann Byers, Brunswick, Ga.; his stepsons, Ira Browning, Jack Nichols and James Nichols, all of Hutchinson, Michael Nichols, Wichita, Jimmie Nichols Jr., McPherson, and Robert Browning, Lansing; his stepdaughters, Glinda Huff and Angela Ervin, Hutchinson, Cheryl Hinderliter and Jackie Spencer, Wichita, and Debbie Nichols, Texas; his mother, Hazel Faulkner, Severy; his sister, Norma Jean Hader, Coffeyville; 24 stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
Ronald Harp
TOPEKA - Ronald D. Harp, 70, of Topeka, formerly of Wichita, died March 22, 2000.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Church of the Nazarene in Wichita. Burial will be in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Resthaven Mortuary of Wichita is in charge of arrangements.
Harp was a law enforcement officer for the Wichita Police Department and the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Department before retiring. He also served as Derby's chief of police and was head of security for both Southwestern College and Wichita public schools.
He was a Santa Claus for over 40 years for Bucks, Innes and Southwest National Bank.
A member of the South Knollwood Baptist Church of Topeka, he was a 32nd degree Mason and a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy A. Harp, Topeka; three sons, Lloyd Harp, Wichita, Lee Harp, Goddard, and Larry Harp, Topeka; a daughter, Rhonda Sue Durham, Gary, N.C.; a brother, Lowell Harp, Cedar Vale; four sisters, Beth Parmley, Columbus, Ohio, Leah Naasz, Kimball, S.D., Grace Wilkinson, Broken Arrow, Okla., and Sharon Winsel, Springdale, Ark.; and nine grandchildren.
Evelyn Spencer
DOUGLASS - Evelyn Joyce Spencer, 71, of Douglass, died March 23, 2000, at Medicalodge of Douglass.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Douglass Cemetery.
Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday.
A memorial has been established with the Douglass Public Library. Contributions may be made at the library or funeral home.
Spencer was born Aug. 19, 1928, in Douglass, to Elva Emma (Carlman) and Willis E. Allen. She graduated from Douglass High School and El Dorado Community College.
On Aug. 24, 1946, she married Jesse Spencer in Douglass. They made their first home on a farm southwest of Douglass and later moved to Ninnekah, Okla. After they returned to Douglass, Spencer was employed as a bookkeeper at House Hardware and as a clerk at Robinson Grocery. She was a teller at the Exchange State Bank for 20 years before retiring in 1991.
A member of Douglass Congregational Church, she also served as the Douglass alumni historian for many years. She was a member of a quilters' guild, Business and Professional Women and the American Pencil Collectors Society.
Survivors include her husband, Jesse Spencer, Douglass; a daughter, Janet Shearer, Wichita; a son, Jerry Don Spencer, Douglass; her mother, Elva Allen, Winfield; her brother, Willis Allen, Douglass; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Lydia Walker
UDALL - Services for Lydia Christina Walker were held at 10 a.m. March 23, 2000, at the Udall United Methodist Church. Pastor Kathy Holley officiated. Burial was in Udall Cemetery.
Cora Mettling was the organist. "In the Garden" and "Take My Hand, Precious Lord" were sung by Sheana Godwin. The congregation sang "The Old Rugged Cross."
Casket bearers were Johnny Brookings, Marlin and Norman Crow, Clifford Evans, Rick Godwin and Randy Hoffman.
Memorials have been established with the Alzheimer's Disease Research Foundation and the Udall United Methodist Church.
Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
Myra Crist
Myra Oliver Crist, 92, of Good Samaritan Village, Winfield, died March 24, 2000, at Good Samaritan Village.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Oxford Cemetery.
Friends may call at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home from 9 a.m. to noon.
A memorial fund has been established with the Alzheimer's Association and can be sent in care of the funeral home.
Crist was born Oct. 27, 1907, in Benedict, Neb., to Bessie R. (Hoffmaster) and Fred C. Wirth. She attended grade school in Benedict. They family moved to a farm southeast of Wellington when she was 16.
In 1925 she moved to Wellington to help the Shobe family with their children and housekeeping. She later moved to Wichita and became a housekeeper for a professional couple and their children. They helped her gain her general education degree, and she subsequently attended the Venus Academy of Beauty Culture from which she graduated on April 4, 1936. She then worked at a salon on Douglas in Wichita for a short time.
During World War II she worked at Boeing and Beechcraft on the assembly lines. After the war, she worked at various jobs in Wichita including Dockums Drug Store as a clerk. She then worked as a photo developer for Midco Photos for several years before going to work for another family.
On April 24, 1940, she married Samuel Alexander Crist in Wichita. They divorced in November 1974.
Survivors include three sisters, Pauline Foster, Moline, and Isabel Jones and Blanche Willis, both of Wichita; and a brother, Dean Wirth, Wellington.
Faye Lacy
FORESTVILLE, Md. - Faye Marie Lacy, 96, of Forestville, formerly of Severy, died March 24, 2000, at Regency Nursing Home in Forestville.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in South Lawn Cemetery
in Severy. Lloyd G. Zimmerman will officiate.
A memorial has been established with the Alzheimer's Association. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home.
Lacy was born Jan. 14, 1904, northwest of Severy, to Mary Ann (Barnaby) and William Clarence Jenks. She attended Economy Grade School and grew up in the Severy area. After graduating from Severy Rural High School, she attended Wichita Business College.
She married Joseph Lacy, and they made their home in Detroit for a few years. After the marriage ended in the 1930s, she moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked for the United States government. She worked at the U.S. Weather Bureau before her retirement.
In Washington she owned and operated several apartment buildings. She lived there until 1984 when she moved to Regency Nursing Home.
Survivors include three nieces, Lorene Pape, Olpe, Pauline Bellar, Howard, and Leta Brookover, La Habra, Calif.; and two nephews, Glenn Coble, Moline, and Ted Coble, Basehor.
Maxine Schuyler
Maxine M. Schuyler, 77, of 1219 Mound, Winfield, died March 25, 2000, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Joseph Campus in Wichita.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home until 8 tonight.
A memorial has been established with the Alzheimer's and Related Diseases Foundation. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Schuyler was born Dec. 9, 1922, in Madill, Okla., to Mabrey (Fowler) and Thomas J. Hicks. She moved to the Winfield area when she was seven.
On Jan. 20, 1940, she married Wilbert Schuyler in Perry, Okla.
Schuyler worked for 20 years at Whittier Elementary School and was a member of the First Christian Church, Order of Eastern Star and Rebel Campers.
Survivors include her husband, Wilbert Schuyler, Winfield; three daughters, Connie Smith, Winfield, and Betty Eberhart and Judy Martindale, both of Hutchinson; a son, Rick Schuyler, Augusta; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
An infant daughter, Vicky, preceded her in death.
