Amy Lowry

WELLINGTON - Amy Lowry, 94, of Wellington, died April 7, 2000, at Beverly Rehabilitation Center in Wellington.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Oxford Cemetery. The Rev. Quentin Bennett will officiate.

Friends may call at Oliver-Hawks Funeral Home until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday.

Lowry was born Jan. 3, 1906, in Cowley County, to Eva Lee (Brown) and Embrose Martin Rowe. She was raised and educated in Oxford.

On Oct. 15, 1926, she married Clifford Myral Lowry in Winfield. They moved to El Dorado where they lived until 1948 when they moved to Rogers, Ark., to farm. Her husband died March 3, 1974, and Lowry moved to Wellington shortly after that. She had lived at Wheat Capital Manor for several years.

Lowry was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Wellington.

Survivors include a daughter, Juanita Lowry, and a sister, Lacey Royer, both of Oklahoma City.

Two sons, Donald W. Lowry and Michael Lowry, preceded her in death.

Ronald Mitchener

AMARILLO, Texas - Ronald Wayne "Ron" Mitchener, 56, of Amarillo, died April 8, 2000, in Amarillo.

Services were at 2 p.m. April 10 in the Chapel of Memories at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Pastor Dan Powers officiated. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with BSA Hospice.

Mitchener was born Feb. 8, 1944, in Marshall, Mo.

On Feb. 5, 1968, he married Betty Jane Lane in Newkirk. They moved from Ponca City to Amarillo in 1980. He owned and operated Mitchener Trucking.

Survivors include his wife, Jane Mitchener, two daughters, Kelly Gibson and Brandi Mitchener, and two sons, Cody Mitchener and Eric Mitchener, all of Amarillo; his mother Martha Mitchener, and two sisters, Margaret Cox and Betty Randall, all of Winfield; a brother, Robert L. Mitchener, Amarillo; three grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren.

Etta Quier

Etta V. Quier, 84, died April 9, 2000, at Walnut Hill Nursing Center in Winfield.

Following cremation, a memorial service will be held in Anaheim, Calif. Inurnment services will take place in Smith's Prairie, Idaho.

Quier was born Sept. 14, 1915, in Fullerton, Calif., to Effie (Tripp) and Ray York. She graduated from high school in Compton, Calif., in 1933.

On May 10, 1936, she married Ernest Quier in Compton. They lived in Mountain Home, Idaho, before moving to Burden. A homemaker, she was known for her cooking. She had been a resident of Walnut Hill since April 1997.

Quier was a member of the Full Gospel Church in Compton.

Survivors include her husband, Ernie Quier, Burden; two daughters, Lynda Fox, Yorba Linda, Calif., and Barbara Humphreys, Burden; a son, Ernest Quier, Ridgecrest, Calif.; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

John Shafer

Services for John L. Shafer were held at 10:30 a.m. April 10, 2000, at the First United Methodist Church. The Revs. Rick Thornton and Fred Houston officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.

Laura Belle Haines was the organist. Music presented by Roberta Shafer included "America the Beautiful" and "The Lord's Prayer."

Military graveside honors were conducted by American Legion Post 10 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3544. Masonic graveside rites were performed by Lodge 110 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons.

Honorary casket bearers were Ashley Wells, Meghan Shafer, Sami Carson, Grant Carson, Jack Embrey, Ernest Hensley, Bill Hinkley, Don Miles and Marvin Roady.

Casket bearers were Vernon Hankins, Bill Long, Kent Roberts, Zach Shafer, Bill Thornton and Joel Wells.

Memorials have been established with Grouse Valley Manor in Dexter and the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield.

Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Anna Weaver

COTTAGE GROVE, ORE. - Anna M. Weaver, 90, of Cottage Grove, formerly of Cedar Vale, died April 6, 2000.

Weaver was born March 23, 1910, in Cedar Vale, to Anne and Jacob Keller.

She married Roy B. Weaver. They divorced in September 1941.

She had lived in Cedar Vale and Wichita before moving to Cottage Grove in 1984. She was a riveter and assembler at Boeing Aircraft in Wichita for 25 years.

Weaver was a member of the Past 45 Arts & Crafts of Cottage Grove.

Survivors include a daughter, Carolin Trent, Cottage Grove; two sons, Morris "Gene" Weaver, Portland, Ore., and David Weaver, Wichita; 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

A son, Benjamin Weaver, died in April 1960.

Willard Fisher

Willard A. Fisher, 69, of 319 Michigan, Winfield, died April 11, 2000, at his home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Miles Funeral Service. Military burial rites will be in Highland Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8.

A memorial has been established with Hospice Inc. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Fisher was born Aug. 30, 1930, in Coffeyville, to Julia Ann (Newkirk) and Willard Fisher. He graduated from Coffeyville High School and attended Coffeyville Community College.

In January 1953 he entered the United States Army and was honorably discharged in April 1953.

On Sept. 8, 1956, he married Josephine Marie Plummer in Miami, Okla.

Fisher worked in the aircraft industry in Texas and Kansas. For a time he was a cab driver in Cowley County. He was also a custodian at Southwestern College and Cowley County Community College and a licensed minister.

He was a member of the General Assembly Church of the First Born in Wichita and the Arkansas City American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Josephine Fisher, and a daughter, Teresa Jo Brown, both of Winfield; two sons, Paul Fisher, Arkansas City, and Billy Dale Fisher, Oklahoma; 17 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

Cleo Rush

CEDAR VALE - Services for Cleo Rush, 94, who died April 6, 2000, were held at 10:30 a.m. April 11 at Cedar Vale First Baptist Church. The Rev. Stanley Upchurch officiated, and John Rush gave the message. Burial was in Cedar Vale Cemetery.

Music selections included "Amazing Grace," sung by the congregation; "How Great His Love," performed by Steven and Becky Nichols; "God Makes No Mistakes," performed by Susan Meade, Becky Nichols and Jessica Holland; and "Prelude and Postlude," written and recorded by Steven Nichols.

Casket bearers were Dan Rush, Larry Meade, Brett Holland, John Rush, Lynn Schuyler and Steve Nichols.

Memorials have been established with the First Baptist Church and the Gideons.

Wheeler Funeral Home of Cedar Vale was in charge of arrangements.

Betty Shearer

NORTON - Betty Lee Shearer, 73, of Norton, died April 7, 2000, at her home.

Services were at 11 a.m. April 11 at Enfield Funeral Home. The Rev. John Walsh officiated, and burial was in Norton Cemetery. Diana Enfield performed "In the Garden" and "Amazing Grace." Casket bearers were Roy Gnagy, Bob Krueger, Loyal Mapes, Gordon Smith, Robert Annon and Dale Townsend.

Shearer was born Nov. 3, 1926, in Winfield, to Verda Francis (Branom) and George Edward Black. She was raised in Winfield and attended local schools.

On Nov. 11, 1945, she married Robert William Shearer in El Dorado. They made their home in Winfield and Wichita before moving to Norton in 1953.

She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Norton.

A son, Anthony James "Tony" Shearer, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband, Bob Shearer, and a daughter, Teresa Poage, both of Norton; a son, Kenneth Shearer, Hutchinson; a brother, Lewis Black, Winfield; a sister, Dixie Stark, Ponca City; and four grandchildren.

Patrick Yorks

CEDAR VALE - Services for Patrick Michael Yorks were held at 2 p.m. April 11, 2000, at Wheeler Funeral Home in Cedar Vale. The Rev. Roger Megli officiated. Burial was in Cedar Vale Cemetery.

Honorary casket bearers were Bill Yorks, Jerry Tiger and Ken Freel. Casket bearers were James Coulter, Randy Brown, Jeff Porter, Casey Murphy, Paul Ponte and Howard Omstead.

A memorial has been established at the Centura Bank, 2414 Wycliff Road, Raleigh, NC 27607.
