Ellen Harris

Ellen H. Harris, 81, of Winfield, died April 15, 2000, at the home of her son, Bruce Barley, Wichita.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Friends may call at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home until 8 tonight.

Memorials have been established with the First United Methodist Church Scholarship Fund and the American Cancer Society.

Harris was born April 3, 1919, on a farm near Bruno, Ark., to Sarah (Kester) and David Bruce McNair. She graduated from Bruno High School and Wichita Business College, then worked in Wichita for Brokers Office & Warehouse Co. and for Watkins Inc. Before moving to Winfield, she worked in the Kansas City offices of the T.G.&Y. Stores Co. In Winfield she managed Friendship Meals from 1978 to 1991.

On Sept. 6, 1946, she married Bernard B. Barley in Wichita. He died Jan. 31, 1977.

On Feb. 16, 1991, she married Erwin L. Harris in Winfield. He died July 22, 1999.

Harris was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Anna Ruth Circle and Seekers Sunday School Class. She was a former member of the Kansas Authors Club and the Midwest Chaparral Poetry Society.

Survivors include two sons, Bruce Barley, Wichita, and Alan Barley, Tucson, Ariz.; a stepson, Russell Harris, Hawaii; three stepdaughters, Beverly Reiner, Mulvane, and Barbara Doyle and Julie Burley, both of Udall; three grandchildren, 14 stepgrandchildren and 14 stepgreat-grandchildren.

Wayne Moore

ARKANSAS CITY - Wayne Allen Moore, 73, of Arkansas City, died April 14, 2000, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. The Revs. Sherman Beasterfeld and Wade C. Graber will officiate. Burial will be in Parker Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Moore was born June 20, 1926, in Arkansas City, to Myrtle (Wallace) and Hubert William Moore. He attended schools in Arkansas City. In 1944 he entered the U.S. Navy and served during World War II.

On Oct. 12, 1947, he married Shirley A. Buechner in Arkansas City where they made their home.

Moore worked as a jet engine mechanic at General Electric for 16 years and owned and operated Moore Apco Station for seven years. Then for several years he worked for the Arkansas City Water Treatment Plant before retiring in 1988.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Spencer-Ralston Post 1254 Veterans of Foreign Wars and Crescent Lodge 133 Ancient Free & Accepted Masons, all of Ark City.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Moore, Arkansas City; three daughters, Rebecca Stedry, El Paso, Texas, Annette Jones, Stillwater, Okla., and Jacque Ramirez, Arkansas City; three sons, Steve Moore and Layne Moore, both of Arkansas City, and Jeff Moore, Stockton, Calif.; his mother, Myrtle Moore, Dexter; a sister, Norma Baker, Fiatt, Ill.; 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Georgia Beeman

Services for Georgia L. Beeman were held at 10:30 a.m. April 15, 2000, in Mount Vernon Cemetery near Winfield. The Rev. Jerre Nolte officiated. Casket bearers were members of the family.

Memorials have been established with Hospice Inc. and Grace United Methodist Church.

Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Faith Slocum

PARSONS - Faith Slocum, 93, of Parsons, died April 17, 2000, at the Good Samaritan Center in Parsons.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Highland Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the Good Samaritan Center in Parsons. Contributions may be made through Miles Funeral Service.

Slocum was born Oct. 30, 1906, in Cedar Vale, to John and Julia (Wilson) Dicken. She was raised and educated in the Floral and Winfield areas.

On March 1, 1924, she married Theo Elliott in Newkirk. They made their home in Winfield until they divorced in 1945.

On July 15, 1950, she married Roy Slocum in Clayton, N.M., and they resided in Arkansas City. He died July 23, 1964.

During World War II she worked at Cessna Aircraft in Wichita. She worked for Seymour Packing Co. in Winfield as a bookkeeper from 1945 to 1950 and at Liberal High School as a bookkeeper for a year.

In July 1980 she moved to Winfield and resided at Walnut Towers. In February 1996 she moved to Tonto Basin, Ariz., to live with her daughter, Patty. In October 1996 she moved to Parsons to live with her son, Gerald. In February 1997 she entered the Good Samaritan Center.

Slocum was a member of the First Baptist Church of Winfield.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Lindsey, Tonto Basin, Ariz.; two sons, Gerald Elliott, Parsons, and Rodney Elliott, The Plains, Ohio; a brother, Tom Dicken, Abilene; nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Barbara, preceded her in death.

Wayne Temple

BURDEN - Wayne E. "Chip" Temple II, 52, of Burden, died April 15, 2000, at his home, following an extended illness.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Burden United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Burden Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Memorials have been established with the Burden United Methodist Church and the American Heart Association. Contributions may be made through the church or funeral home.

Temple was born April 19, 1947, in Topeka, to Ruby (Sawyer) and Wayne E. Temple. They lived in Topeka and Arlington before moving to Burden in 1954. He received his early education in Burden and graduated from Wentworth Academy, Lexington, Mo., in 1965 and later from Wichita State University.

On Aug. 31, 1968, he married Rebecca Casida. They later divorced. A marriage to Kathleen Whitaker in Texas also ended in divorce.

Temple worked in oil exploration and development and real estate.

A longtime member of the Burden United Methodist Church, he also won awards and trophies in trapshooting.

Survivors include a daughter, Allison Temple, and a son, Nathan Temple, both of Overland Park; his mother, Ruby Temple, Burden; a brother, Bret Temple, Grenola; and a sister, Lisa Brunner, North Hollywood, Calif.

J.C. Braungardt

DOUGLASS - Services for J.C. Braungardt were held at 2 p.m. April 18, 2000, at the Douglass Christian Church. The Rev. Cliff F. Muci officiated. Burial was in Douglass Cemetery.

Vivian Seal was the organist. Vocal music included recordings of "Whispering Hope" and "Precious Memories," sung by Tennessee Ernie Ford, and "Grandpa, Tell Me 'Bout the Good Old Days," sung by Wynona Judd.

Douglass Lodge 155 Ancient Free & Accepted Masons performed graveside ceremonies.

Casket bearers were Bob Ahlderich, Jim Ford, Jerry Haines, Jim Thomas, Dave Tillman and Eldon White.

Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Luceil Drum

HESSTON - Luceil C. Drum, 87, of Hesston, died April 18, 2000, at Schowalter Villa in Hesston.

A memorial service will be held at Schowalter Villa at 10 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Ron Rich and Chaplain Mary Dyck will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Winfield. Petersen Funeral Home, Newton, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials have been established with Schowalter Villa and the Hesston United Methodist Church.

Drum was born June 9, 1912, in Choctaw, Okla., to Sarah C. (Fletcher) and Samuel W. Reeve.

On July 9, 1937, she married Harold E. Drum in Winfield. He died Oct. 1, 1976.

Survivors include a daughter, Kay C. Hines, Stilwell; two sons, Leslie Drum, Garden Plain, and Donald Drum, Sedgwick; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Julia Frazier

HOWARD - Julia Mae "Judy" Frazier, 84, of Howard, died April 18, 2000, at Mercy Hospital in Independence.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Grace Lawn Cemetery at Howard. The Rev. Kibum Kim will officiate. Zimmerman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established with Howard United Methodist Church.

Frazier was born May 26, 1915, in Nevada, Mo., to Will Earnest and Cora Almira (Graham) Parker. She attended school at Severy and graduated from high school in Wichita.

On April 19, 1941, she married Harold E. Siever at Newton. They lived in Kansas City, Mo., where she was employed by Crown Drug Co. and Bendix Aviation as a payroll clerk. She then worked as an accounting clerk for the Marley Co. from 1960 to 1970.

Her husband died Sept. 20, 1970.

She moved to Howard in the early 1970s and worked at the Elk County Courthouse and the Howard city clerk's office before retiring in 1978.

On March 29, 1980, she married Jonathan Walter Frazier in Howard. He preceded her in death Nov. 6, 1990.

Frazier attended the Howard United Methodist Church and was a member of American Legion Carter-Rader Post 149 Auxiliary.

Survivors include two stepdaughters, Sharon Hicks, Grants, N.M., and Debbie Olguine, Socorro, N.M.; nieces and nephews, including Robert Parker of Howard; and five stepgrandchildren.

Charles Veach

A memorial service for Charles Veach will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Lions Club shelter in Island Park.

Veach died March 16 as the result of a car accident Feb. 25. He was a retired self-employed mechanic and millwright.

Survivors include a daughter, R. Noretta Haynes, Smyrna, Tenn.; three sisters, Ardina Whayley, Oxford, Dorothea Peacock, Auburn, Wash., and Margaret Veach, Winfield; a brother, Floyd Veach, Thompson Falls, Mont.; five grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
