Wilma Kleier
OXFORD - Wilma Heitmeyer Kleier, 84, of Oxford, died May 16, 2000, at Cumbernauld Village in Winfield.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Oxford United Methodist Church. Pastor Wayne Handle will officiate. Burial will be in Oxford Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the Oxford United Methodist Church through Oliver-Hawks Funeral Home.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday.
Kleier was born July 2, 1915, in Kenton, Okla., to Bertha and George Heitmeyer. She graduated from Hugoton High School in 1933 and attended Southwestern College. She taught school in Sumner County for six years.
On Sept. 2, 1939, she married H.O. Kleier at her parent' home in Conway Springs. They lived on a farm near Oxford from 1939 to 1950 when they moved to Anthony. They returned to Oxford in 1954 to their present home.
Kleier was a member of the United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, P.E.O. and Soldanella.
Survivors include her husband, H.O. Kleier, Oxford; a son, David Kleier, Lawrence; a sister, Grace Cline, Conway Springs; and a grandson.
Georgia Van Cleve
Georgia G. (Romine) Van Cleve, 91, of Winfield, died May 17, 2000, at Good Samaritan Village.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Blackwell Cemetery. The Rev. Jeffrey Pfaff will officiate. Roberts and Sons Funeral Home, Blackwell, is in charge of arrangements.
Van Cleve was born Oct. 9, 1908, in Coin, Mo., to Jessie Milton and Nola Mae (Jones) Romine. The family moved to Bartlesville and then to Blackwell in 1913.
On April 13, 1925, she married William Edward Van Cleve in Blackwell. They lived in Blackwell until moving to Washington in 1946. In 1969 they moved to Winfield. Her husband died Nov. 9, 1974.
Survivors include a daughter, Billie Lindly, Winfield; a son, Ronald Van Cleve, Kennewick, Wash.; 14 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
Van Cleve was preceded in death by a son, Edward Eugene Van Cleve, and two daughters, Shirley Ann Van Cleve and Ruby Geraldine "Jerry" Conover.
Cleo Bish
Cleo W. Bish, 86, longtime resident of Wichita, died May 18, 2000, at Cumbernauld Village in Winfield.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at University United Methodist Church in Wichita. Broadway Mortuary, Wichita, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cumbernauld Village and University United Methodist Church.
Bish retired as assistant secretary-treasurer of Santa Fe Trail Transportation Co.
He had lived at Cumbernauld Village for the past year.
Survivors include his wife, Vivian Bish, Cumbernauld Village; a son, Donald Bish, Evergreen, Colo.; two daughters, Janice Perry, Wichita, and Lois Loucks, Winfield; a brother, Howard Bish, Marion; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
J.D. Clark
YEAGER, Okla. - J.D. Clark, 86, of Yeager, died May 17, 2000.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hudson-Phillips Chapel, Holdenville, Okla.
Memorials have been established with the women's basketball team at Independence Community College and the Holdenville First Baptist Church Multi-Purpose Building Fund.
Clark was born July 22, 1913, in Yeager, to Ebb and Gents Clark. He lived his entire life in Yeager.
Mable Clark, his wife of 55 years, died June 16, 1990.
He was a retired farmer, rancher and oil field worker. Clark spent 65 years on his farm east of Yeager in the home he and his wife built in 1935.
Survivors include a daughter, Sue Adams, Winfield; a son, Elbert Clark, Holdenville; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
The family is meeting at the home of Elbert and Irma Clark, Holdenville.
Geraldine Evans
UDALL - Services for Geraldine Ruth Evans were held at 2 p.m. May 18, 2000, at the Udall United Methodist Church. The Rev. Andy Torres officiated. Burial was in Friends Cemetery
at Rose Hill.
Cora Mettling was the organist. Vocal music was "How Great Thou Art" and "Blessed Assurance," presented by Joan Middleton.
Casket bearers were Mark Barnett, Ron Beard, John Blankenship, Johnnie Brookings, Oscar Morton and Mike Thompson.
A memorial has been established with the Udall United Methodist Church.
Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
Virgie Fields
ARKANSAS CITY - Virgie D. Fields, 84, of Arkansas City, died May 18, 2000, at Medicalodge East.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Hope Cemetery. Jesse Kindred will officiate.
Friends may call at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home until noon today and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday.
Fields was born July 25, 1915, in Yardell, Ark., to Laura (Robinson) and Frank Moore. When she was a child, the family moved to Kansas.
On Dec. 27, 1951, she married W.F. "Slim" Fields in Wellington. She was a homemaker. Her husband preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Genie Anderson, Arkansas City; a son, Bill Talley, Napa, Calif.; three grandchildren, one great-grandson and one great-great-granddaughter.
Virgil Earls
Virgil L. Earls, 69, of 918 E. Sixth, Winfield, died May 18, 2000, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Joseph Campus in Wichita.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home until 9 tonight. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m.
A memorial has been established with the Winfield Dialysis Center. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Earls, a Cherokee, was born June 28, 1930, in Whitesboro, Okla., to Tennie May (Gillium) and David Leroy Earls. He attended Cherokee Nation schools in Oklahoma.
On June 27, 1951, he married Virginia C. Lewis in Anthony.
For several years he was employed as an auto body technician in the Winfield area and retired in 1985.
Earls was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Arkansas City.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Earls, Winfield; his children, Jannie Metzen, Wellington, Mary Williams, Billy Earls, Beverly Hasselbring and Marilyn Wedd, all of Winfield, and David Earls, Harper; two sisters, Luellen Harris, Summerfield, Okla., and Rosemary Knight, Wister, Okla.; three brothers, David Earls, McAlester, Okla., Marshall Earls, Dustin, Okla., and Wiley Earls, Wilberton, Okla.; 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Toby Domeny
Toby Domeny, infant son of Robert and Angela Rozell Domeny, former Winfield residents, was stillborn May 20, 2000, at Newman Hospital in Emporia.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Highland Cemetery. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his parents, Robert and Angela Domeny, and two brothers, Devin and Cordell Domeny, all of Emporia; and his grandparents, Charles and Sandy Domeny, Ralston, Okla., and Jim and Sharon Rozell, Winfield.
Elinor Grove
A memorial service for Elinor Grove was held at 1:30 p.m. May 20, 2000, at First United Methodist Church. The Revs. Rick Thornton and Fred Houston officiated. Inurnment was in Highland Cemetery.
Dr. James Strand played the prelude and postlude on the organ. Violinist Dan Grove and pianist Kathy Baker played "Adoration," and "Meditation" from "Thais." Matt Grove sang "If With All Your Heart" from "Elijah," accompanied by Baker.
The congregation sang "For All the Saints," "There Is a Balm in Gilead," "A Charge to Keep I Have," "Cast Thy Burden Upon the Lord," "Praise the Lord Who Reigns Above," "Love Divine, All Loves Excelling," "O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing" and "Dona Nobis Pacem."
A memorial has been established with the First United Methodist Church Organ Fund.
