Helen Perisho
DOUGLASS - Helen Perisho, 94, of Douglass, died May 20, 2000.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Douglass Cemetery. The Rev. Ron Keith will officiate.
Friends may call at Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.
A memorial has been established with the Butler County Community College Nursing Program.
A homemaker, Perisho was born in Douglass April 2, 1906.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Lee Perisho, Douglass; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
William Sympson
William B. Sympson, 83, of Winfield, died May 21, 2000, at Riverview Manor in Oxford.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Tisdale United Methodist Church. Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established with the church.
Sympson was born Aug. 30, 1917, in Longton, to Edna Polly (Bonnell) and Arvin G. Sympson. He was educated in rural Cowley County schools.
On May 5, 1946, he married Sara Jo Bergdall in Tisdale. She died April 3, 1998.
Sympson had been employed by the State Bank, Wallingford Elevator and Winfield Daily Courier.
A member of Tisdale United Methodist Church, he had been a leader of the Methodist Youth Fellowship. He was a longtime member of the Kiwanis Club and served as the Winfield Area Chamber of Commerce's Santa Claus for many years.
Survivors include a brother, Jesse Sympson, Winfield.
Virgil Earls
Services for Virgil L. Earls were held at 2 p.m. May 23, 2000, in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Fred Houston and Bishop Richard James officiated.
Robert Hyatt performed Indian graveside ceremonies in Highland Cemetery.
Music included "Go Rest High on that Mountain" by Vince Gill, "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art."
Honorary casket bearers were grandsons Gregory Metzen, P.J. Metzen, Willie Earls, Jacob Earls, Joshua Earls, Michael Wedd and Christian Williams.
Casket bearers were grandsons Christopher Bruster, Johnathan Miller, Jeremy Miller, Torrance Owens, Eric Earls and Derick Earls.
A memorial has been established with the Winfield Dialysis Center.
Bob Gillespie
MOLINE - William Robert "Bob" Gillespie, 69, of Moline, died May 21, 2000, at his home.
A Rosary will be said tonight at 7 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, also at St. Mary's. The Rev. Edward J. Steinberger will officiate.
Ferguson-Spease American Legion Post 388 will conduct military services in Mount Olivet Cemetery
south of Moline.
Memorials have been established with St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Center for Basic Cancer Research at Kansas State University. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home.
Gillespie was born Nov. 11, 1930, in Moline, to Ila Marie (Hill) and George Gillespie. He was raised in Moline and graduated from Moline High School.
On Jan. 3, 1949, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in the Korean Conflict before being discharged on Sept. 30, 1952.
He then moved to Wichita and was employed as a maintenance mechanic in the printing industry for many years.
On Jan. 20, 1969, he married Judith Ann Stewart in Wichita. They later divorced.
After retiring in 1992, Gillespie moved to Moline.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 112 of Wichita and past commander of Ferguson-Spease American Legion Post 388 of Moline.
Survivors include two sons, Alan Gillespie, Haysville, and Kenneth Gillespie, Visalia, Calif.; two brothers, Gene Gillespie, Pittsburg, and Wilbur Gillespie, Moline; a sister, Elfreda Needham, Wichita; and five grandchildren.
Wanda Mills was the organist.
Honorary casket bearers were Gabe Caughron, Craig, Duayne and Mark Ellis, Mic Gillespie and Sam Needham.
Casket bearers were Ed, George, Jim, Kevin and Rick Gillespie and Steve Needham.

Gladwin Hollinger CEDAR VALE - Gladwin "Glad" Hollinger, 88, of Cedar Vale, died May 23, 2000, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center in Arkansas City.
Services will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. in Cedar Vale Cemetery. The Rev. Stanley Upchurch will officiate.
Friends may call at Wheeler Funeral Home until 8 tonight.
Memorial contributions can be made to the First Baptist Church or the donor's choice of charities.
Hollinger was born Jan. 22, 1912, in McPherson, to Marie (Broman) and Harvey Hollinger. He graduated from Concordia High School in 1931 and attended Wichita Business School.
Hollinger was employed at several Wichita financial institutions, including the Federal Land Bank, and retired as president of Railroad Savings and Loan in 1978.
He served in the U.S. Navy twice, in 1943 and again in 1950-52.
In 1936 he married Lova Ball. She died in January 1977.
In December 1977 he married Mary Bess (Chappell) Hankins.
A member of Woodlawn United Methodist Church in Wichita, he attended the First Baptist Church in Cedar Vale.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Bess Hollinger, Cedar Vale; a stepdaughter, Nancy Metcalf, Colorado; a stepson, Tom Hankins, Wichita; a sister, Marlene Cunningham, Concordia; three stepgrandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren.
Dell Borman
Dell H. Borman, 89, formerly of Ellsworth, died May 25, 2000, at Good Samaritan Village in Winfield.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Excelsior Lutheran Church cemetery in Wilson.
A memorial has been established with Excelsior Lutheran Church. Contributions may be sent to Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home.
Borman was born Dec. 23, 1910, in Lincoln County, to Elizabeth (Dunki) and Charles Borman. He worked for many years for the Ellsworth Co-op Association.
In April 1934 he married Genevieve Weinhold at her family's farm near Wilson. They moved to Winfield in June 1999 to be near their son.
Survivors include his wife, Genevieve Borman, Good Samaritan Village; three sons, Larry Borman, Winfield, Delbert Borman, Oakley, and Duane Borman, Morrill; and eight grandchildren.
Gilbert Cottingham
SOISSONS, France - Gilbert Francis Cottingham, 81, died May 19, 2000, at a hospital in Soissons, France. He had been a cancer patient there since early April.
Services were held May 24 at Evangelique Baptiste Church in Soissons. Burial was in the Soissons cemetery where his son is also buried.
Cottingham was born in Kansas City, Mo., on Oct. 8, 1918, to Eva (Gilbert) and Frank Cottingham. He spent most of his childhood in Cowley County, first in Arkansas City and then in Winfield where he graduated from high school.
During World War II, he served in the United States Army and was stationed in France. He married Suzanne Jacquot there on Aug. 18, 1945. After the war, they resided in Wichita where he was employed by Boeing Aircraft Co.
Several years later he and his family returned to France. He worked there until his retirement.
He was a member of Evangelique Baptiste Church.
Cottingham is survived by his wife, Suzanne Cottingham, Soissons; two grandsons; and a niece, Cathy (Cottingham) Logan, San Antonio, Texas.
A son, Michael Robert James Cottingham, preceded him in death.
Dorles Doolittle
Dorles Doolittle, 88, of 1330 Wheat Road, Winfield, former longtime Udall area resident, died May 25, 2000, at William Newton Memorial Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in Wilmot Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home until 9 tonight.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society for colon cancer research. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Doolittle was born May 5, 1912, at Attica, to Cordelia (Turner) and William Hoyt. She was educated at Midian School in El Dorado.
On Sept. 8, 1928, she married Lewis W. "Doc" Doolittle in Medicine Lodge. They made their first home on a farm near Corwin and later lived in Zenda, Chrisfield and Medicine Lodge before moving to a farm on Route 3, Udall, in 1945. Her husband died Nov. 9, 1997.
Doolittle was a member of the Medicine Lodge United Methodist Church and NACHA, Teepeers and Sun Chasers camping clubs.
Survivors include a son, Paul Doolittle, Winfield; two daughters, Stella Thompson, Udall, and Wilmeta Ruiz, Winfield; 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
A son, Bill Doolittle, preceded her in death.
