Addie Brashear
CEDAR VALE - Addie M. Brashear, 99, of Cedar Vale, died June 1, 2000, at Cedar Vale Community Hospital.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Wheeler Funeral Home. Burial will be in Cedar Vale Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday.
Memorials have been established with the First Baptist Church and Cedar Vale Community Hospital.
Brashear was born Nov. 24, 1900, in rural Cedar Vale, to Dora Alice (White) and Thomas Marion Bell. She attended rural schools.
On Nov. 26, 1919, she married Earl Brashear. She helped him farm and raised large gardens. He died in April 1968.
Brashear was a charter member and founder of the First Baptist Church in Cedar Vale.
Survivors include three daughters, Faye Dale, Cedar Vale, Hazel Laurie, Derby, and Marjorie Meer, Coffeyville; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and five great-great-granddaughters.
Bernadene Dougherty
THAYER - Bernadene L. Bretches Dougherty, 86, longtime resident of rural Thayer, died May 31, 2000, at Labette County Medical Center in Parsons.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Dennis. The Revs. Lewis Smith and Clyde Dyke will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery
at Independence.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons.
A fund has been established for her great-grandson, Byron Carter, who has muscular dystrophy.
Dougherty was born July 7, 1913, in Craig County, Okla., to Clara G. (Shearhart) and Thomas Edwin Vandermark. At an early age, she moved with her family to rural Labette County. She attended school in Angola and Independence.
On April 9, 1935, she married Jacob "Jake" Bretches in Independence, and they lived in the rural Thayer area. He died Aug. 23, 1964.
On Nov. 15, 1967, she married George F. Dougherty. He died Oct. 17, 1988.
Dougherty attended the United Methodist Church in Dennis. She was a member of the Happy Homemaker Club for nearly 50 years and served as its treasurer. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Survivors include four daughters, Charlene Errig, Phoenix, Marilyn Carter, Winfield, Sandra Sue Robbins, Gower, Mo., and Sharon Kay Barnes, Parsons; two sisters, Fern Loomer and Doris Kirchoff, both of Independence; a brother, Dale Vandermark, Wichita; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Audrey McCollum
E. Audrey McCollum, 81, of 1014 Manning, Winfield, died May 31, 2000, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
Services will be at 2 p.m Saturday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home until 9 tonight.
A memorial has been established with the World War II Veterans Memorial. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
McCollum was born July 19, 1918, in Winfield, to Cora (Hall) and Richard Henshaw. She graduated from Winfield High School in 1936.
In 1947 she married Archie A. Gibbs in Sedan. He died in 1971.
On March 18, 1978, she married Barton Edd McCollum, and they lived in Winfield. He died Feb. 8, 1993.
McCollum was a psychiatric aide at Winfield State Hospital and Training Center for several years until her retirement in 1983.
She was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
Survivors include three daughters, Linda Golightley, Winfield, Jodi Brewer, Arkansas City, and Rita Hulsey, Santa Fe, Texas; a sister, Carol Myers, Newton; seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.
Mildred Sanborn
ARKANSAS CITY - Mildred Mary Sanborn, 84, of Arkansas City, died May 31, 2000, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. The Rev. Steve Chambers will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Sanborn was born May 28, 1916, in Lowe, to Mary Cassie (Henson) and Chester Arthur Graham. She attended country schools around Sedan and Cedar Vale.
On June 16, 1936, she married Merl Vernon Sanborn in Chautauqua County. They lived in the Sedan and Cedar Vale area before moving to Arkansas City in 1949. She worked in the peel and pack department for Mauer-Neuer Meat Packing Co. for 19 years until her retirement in 1974.
Survivors include two daughters, LaVerna Vaden, Fort Worth, Texas, and Melva Lagasse, Arkansas City; four sons, Merl Sanborn and Ronnie Sanborn, both of Arkansas City; Don Sanborn, Winfield, and Russell Sanborn, Joshua, Texas; two brothers, Dean Graham, Ponca City, and Beryl Graham, Wichita; 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1992 and a son, Thomas.
Wilma Ankrom
Services for Wilma Myrtle Sanburn Ankrom were held at 10:30 a.m. June 3, 2000, in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Revs. Wayne Bookout and Larry Collins officiated. Burial was in Burden Cemetery.
Wanda Mackey was the organist, and Kathy Hensley sang "Amazing Grace."
Casket bearers were Hal and Robert Ankrom, Brent, Chris and Richard Mackey and David Parsons.
Memorials have been established with National Home Missions of the Free Will Baptist Church.
Butch Dilli
HOWARD - Raymond Carl "Butch" Dilli, 74, longtime resident of Howard, died June 2, 2000, at Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Howard United Methodist Church. Pastor Robin Haines will officiate. Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with Howard Twilight Manor. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home.
Dilli was born Feb. 14, 1926, at Grenola, to Ella Delilah (Bales) and Raymond Charles Dilli. He attended school in Grenola before moving with his parents to a farm near Howard.
On Dec. 20, 1954, he married Wanda Elaine (Cummins) Juaire in Howard.
In 1972 he began working for the Elk County Ambulance Service and became an emergency medical technician in 1975. He retired from the ambulance service in 1993.
Dilli was a former member of the Kansas Emergency Medical Technician Association and a longtime member of the First Christian Church of Howard.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda Dilli, Howard; a son, Rick Dilli, Independence; two stepsons, Frenchie JuAire, Howard, and Jerry JuAire, Eureka; three stepdaughters, Patricia Unrein, Wichita, Connie Hafner, Independence, and Rita Hill, Bellevue, Ill.; a brother, Kenneth Dilli, Howard; three sisters, Lucille Fife, Brookings, Ore., Evelyn Riley, Wichita, and Marilyn Mayne, Topeka; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Larry Haines
Larry E. Haines, 64, of Winfield, died June 2, 2000, at William Newton Memorial Hospital.
Cremation has taken place. A private memorial service will be held later. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Haines was born Sept. 1, 1935, at Robinson, Ill., to Ralph Bradden and Katherine (Cortellyou) Haines. He graduated from Central High School in Fort Wayne, Ind.
On March 15, 1961, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served in Vietnam and received many awards and medals, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge and Sharpshooter Badge.
On Dec. 17, 1980, he married C. Amanda Carriger in Winfield. Haines was employed as a truck driver for Schneider National Trucking in Des Moines, Iowa. The couple later moved to Phoenix where he was a truck driver for Knight Transportation until retiring in 1998.
Survivors include his wife, Amanda Haines, Winfield; two daughters, Danielle Haines, Winfield, and Kathy Haines, Indiana; three sons, Larry and John Haines, Indiana, and Joe Haines, Phoenix; and seven grandchildren.
Audrey McCollum
Services for E. Audrey McCollum were held at 2 p.m. June 3, 2000, in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. David Lemke officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Special music included "Go Rest High on That Mountain" and "Peace in the Valley."
Casket bearers were Corey and Tom Craig, Jim, Josh and Larry Golightly, Aaron Kaiser, Barton McCollum and Ricci Tucker.
A memorial has been established with the World War II Veterans Memorial.
