Jennifer Simon

HOWARD - Jennifer Sue Simon, 38, of Howard, died May 31, 2000, at her home.

Services were at 2 p.m. June 5 at Zimmerman Funeral Home. The Rev. David Sanchez officiated.

A memorial has been established to benefit her family. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Simon was born Feb. 8, 1962, in Vallejo, Calif., to Marjorie Kay (Ayers) and Richard Lee Smith.

She lived most of her life in Woodland, Calif., before moving to Kansas.

On April 24, 1994, she married David Andrew Simon in Hartford. She lived there for about eight years and in Phoenix and Pittsburg before moving to Howard about six months ago. She was employed as a certified nurse's assistant during most of her working life.

Survivors include her husband, David Simon, Howard; a son, Charles Scott, and two daughters, Ellakay Scott and Kendra Scott, all of Pittsburg; her mother, Marjorie Pendleton, Hartford; her father, Richard Smith, Emporia; six brothers, Lonnie Smith, Hartford, Robert Smith and Perry Rowe, both of Woodland, Calif., Steven Smith and Michael Smith, both of Emporia, and Scott Smith, Neosho, Mo.; four sisters, Debra Bess, Hartford, Lisa Bullock and Amy Smith, both of Emporia, and Katrina English, Sacramento, Calif.; and one grandchild.

Mildred Wefers

WELLINGTON - Mildred Louise Wefers, 77, formerly of 1106 E. 19th, Winfield, died June 3, 2000, at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Wellington.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Burden Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service until 9 p.m. today.

A memorial has been established with the Sumner Regional Medical Center Skilled Unit. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.

Born Aug. 20, 1922, near Burden, she was a daughter of Aubrey Oran and Hattie Jane (Triplett) Penniger. She attended Burden schools and graduated from Burden High School in 1940.

On June 25, 1951, she married Emil Boline in New Mexico, and they resided in Florida and Alabama. They later divorced, and she moved to Winfield in the mid-1980s.

Wefers was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son, Terry Boline, Winfield; two grandchildren, Telisa Rohr, Arkansas City, and Kevin Boline, Chanute; and four great-grandchildren.

Addie Brashear

CEDAR VALE - Services for Addie M. Brashear were held at 1:30 p.m. June 5, 2000, at Wheeler Funeral Home. The Rev. Stanley Upchurch officiated.

Musicians were pianist Shirley Brown, organist Evalyn Upchurch and the County Line Singers.

Casket bearers were Paul J. and Perry Fulsom, Bill Rutter, Mike Campbell, Frank White and Micky Myers.

Interment was in Cedar Vale Cemetery.

Memorials have been established with the First Baptist Church and Cedar Vale Community Hospital.

Elsie Ginder

OXFORD - Flora Elsie Ginder, 103, formerly of Oxford, died June 5, 2000, at Friendly Acres in Newton.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Oxford First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Oxford Cemetery.

Friends may call at Oliver-Hawks Funeral Home from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to noon Friday.

A memorial has been established with the church. Contributions can be left at the church or funeral home.

Ginder was born April 27, 1897, in Jewell County, to Jasper Curtis and Hattie (Boardman) McIrvin. The family moved to Thomas County when she was six and to the Geuda Springs area in 1917.

On Oct. 17, 1917, she married Frank Cox at Geuda Springs. They farmed in Thomas County until moving to Oxford in 1921. He died March 18, 1956.

On June 25, 1968, she married Frank George Ginder. He died Nov. 2, 1973.

Ginder was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church and a former member of the Oxford Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include two sons, Glenn Franklin Cox, Williams, Ariz., and Leon Jasper Cox, Sioux City, Iowa; a daughter, LaVeta Noyce-Holmes, Wichita; a stepson, George Ginder, Wyoming; a stepdaughter, Virginia Campbell, Oxford; a brother, Lester McIrvin, Newton; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

A son, Homer Guy Cox, preceded her in death.

Una Cook

CEDAR VALE - Una M. Cook, 80, of Cedar Vale, died June 6, 2000, at the Good Samaritan Village in Winfield.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Wheeler Funeral Home with interment in Cedar Vale Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday.

A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.

Cook was born July 1, 1919, in Arkansas, to William Olliver and Myrtle (Laird) Hull. She attended Cedar Vale schools and graduated from Cedar Vale High School.

On Aug. 24, 1937, she married Fred Cook in Sedan. They lived on a farm 12 miles north of Cedar Vale before moving to Cedar Vale five years ago. Her husband died Oct. 24, 1997.

Cook was a member of the Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Fred Cook, Mulvane, Richard Cook, Derby, and James O. Cook, Montgomery, Ala.; three brothers, Omer Hull, Cedar Vale, Ernest Hull, Cambridge, and Adary Hull, Dexter; three sisters, Ida Moore, Wichita, Ula Mae Rucker, Houston, and Reba Thompson, Sedan; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Carrol Felker

WICHITA - Carrol R. Felker, 88, of Wichita, died June 7, 2000.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Hillside Funeral Home's east chapel.

Felker was a retired farmer and USD 259 science teacher.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Felker, and a son, Larry Felker, both of Wichita; three daughters, Nancy Buettner, Grand Junction, Colo., Sherry Webb, Fort Smith, Ark., and Rochelle Geisdorf, Rogers, Ark.; a stepdaughter, Edna Lee Withiam, Hesston; 11 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Viola Gilley

Viola Mae Gilley, 94, a longtime resident of Ada, Okla., died June 7, 2000, in Winfield.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Ada with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. The Revs. Holt Soderman and Kenneth Elkins will officiate. Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established with the Ada First Baptist Church's television ministry.

Gilley was born Aug. 13, 1905, at Momense, Ill., to Gideon R. and Lucinda (Chenore) Olds. She graduated from high school in Boynton, Okla., in 1923.

In 1924 she married Louis Calvin Gilley in Sapulpa, Okla. They moved to Ada from Ardmore, Okla., in 1936. Her husband died in 1947.

A homemaker, Gilley was a member of the Ada First Baptist Church for more than 50 years and a member of the Women's Missionary Union.

Survivors include five daughters, Wanda Striegel, Winfield, Nelda Bower-Dean, Moore, Okla., Ruth Richardson, Pittsburgh, Texas, LaVerna Chandler, Ada, Okla., and Clara Williams, Visalia, Calif.; six sons, Norman Gilley, Cromwell, Okla., Carl Gilley and Fred Gilley, Ada, Franklin Gilley, Clayton, Okla., Earl Gilley, Winfield, and Lloyd Gilley, Lubbock, Texas; four sisters, Elaine Stewart, Michigan, Loraine Davenport, California, Emma Corbett, Tulsa, and Wanda Nolan, Virginia; four brothers, Howard Olds, Missouri, Bernard Olds, Arkansas, Victor Olds, Maryland, and Arliss Olds, Oklahoma; 40 grandchildren, 81 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Myrtle Ella Louise Gilley, and three sons, Leita, Otis and Elbert Gilley.

Jerry Bejcek

GLENDORA, Calif. - Jerry D. Bejcek , 61, of Glendora, formerly of Winfield, died June 4, 2000.

He was a son of Albert and Norene Bejcek who lived in Winfield for 44 years before moving to Ponca City in 1997.

Bejcek taught for 32 years at St. John Lutheran Church and School, 304 E. Covina Boulevard, Covina, Calif. 91722. A memorial has been established to provide scholarships.

Survivors include his wife, Melinda Bejcek, Glendora; and his parents, Ponca City.
