Bobby Strickland
AUSTIN, Texas - Bobby J. Strickland, 70, of Austin, Texas, formerly of Winfield, died July 20, 2000.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday in the Memorial Chapel of Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, Pflugerville, Texas. The Rev. Don Long will officiate. Burial will be in Cook-Walden/Memorial Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Strickland was born March 29, 1930, in Winfield, to Alma (Warren) and Admiral Strickland.
He was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Shizuko Strickland, and a daughter, Juney Strickland, both of Austin; two brothers, James W. Strickland, Hutchinson, and Frank E. Strickland, Oklahoma City; and a sister, Marjorie Stroud, Longview, Iowa.
Franklin Berner
LEBANON, Ore. - Franklin O. Berner, 66, of Lebanon, died July 20, 2000, in Lebanon Community Hospital.
A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. July 24 at the Lebanon First Baptist Church.
A memorial has been established with the church. Contributions may be made through Huston-Jost Funeral Home, 86 W. Grant St., Lebanon, OR 97355.
Berner was born April 4, 1934, in Augusta, to LaVerna (Smith) and James Berner. He lived in Kansas for much of his life. In 1972 he moved to southern California where he lived for 10 years. He lived in Boise, Idaho, for several years before moving to Florence, Ore., in the early 1990s. He had resided in the Lebanon area for the past three years.
Berner worked as a courtesy clerk and courtesy clerk trainer for Safeway stores in Florence and Lebanon. He retired from Safeway in October 1999.
On May 17, 1953, he married Arlene M. Magby in Wichita.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene Berner, Lebanon; three daughters, Deborah Bender, Tecate, Calif., Jeannie Coleman, Escondido, Calif., and Kathleen Summers, Star, Idaho; two sons, Randy Berner, Kuna, Idaho, and Larry Berner, Lebanon; four sisters, Nancy Mallory, Hutchinson, Mary Toon, DeSoto, Patricia Horton, Atlanta, and Arleeta Greenwood, Arkansas City; two brothers, Charles Berner, Hutchinson, and Jewel Berner, El Dorado; 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Mary Gilbert
ANDOVER - Mary Ann Gilbert, 84, formerly of Severy, died July 23, 2000, at Andover Health Care Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Severy United Methodist Church. The Rev. Kibum Kim will officiate. Burial will be in South Lawn Cemetery
in Severy. Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard is in charge of arrangements.
Gilbert was born Jan. 12, 1916, in Wichita, to Clara Rosetta (Hunsucker) and Walter Monroe Parker. She attended Hillside Grade School and Wichita East High School.
On Oct. 21, 1934, she married George Robert Gilbert Sr. in Wichita.
She was a homemaker in Wichita until moving to Summerville, Mo., in 1943. She and her husband operated a sawmill and farmed near Summerville before moving back to Wichita in 1952. For 16 years she was employed as a cook at Archer & Taylor Drug Store in Wichita.
The Gilberts moved to Severy in the mid-1970s. She worked as a cook at Severy Grade School until her retirement in 1983.
Her husband died Feb. 10, 1983.
Survivors include three daughters, Betty Sarver, Andover, Joan Wilson, Sioux Falls, S.D., and Sue Nelson, Wichita; a son, George Robert Gilbert Jr., Wichita; a sister, Cora Mae Cross, Wichita; nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Evan Seamster
CEDAR VALE - Services for Evan Hubert Seamster were held at 3 p.m. July 21, 2000, at the Assembly of God Church in Cedar Vale. The Revs. Harold Donaldson and Bill Emert officiated. Burial was in Cedar Vale Cemetery.
Evalyn Upchurch was the organist, and Mark Johnson was the vocalist.
Honorary casket bearers were Chester Hobart and Harold Coulter. Casket bearers were Dale Coffman, Eddie Snyder, Delbert Jarboe, Bob Bailey, Gary Myers and Kenny Kingsberry.
A memorial has been established with the Assembly of God Church.
Wheeler Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Louise Wells
WICHITA - V. Louise Wells, 69, of Wichita, an elementary school teacher for 40 years, died July 22, 2000.
Services will be at 2 p.m Tuesday at Lakeview Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 7 tonight.
Memorials have been established with the Beta Rho chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma sorority, Kappa Kappa Iota sorority and The Hollow in Sedan. Contributions may be sent to the First National Bank of Sedan.
Wells taught at Lincoln Elementary School in the Wichita school district for 37 years and also in the Goddard school district.
She was a member of Beta Rho chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, Kappa Kappa Iota and the National Education Association. She graduated from Emporia State University with a master's degree and was a member of the First Baptist Church in El Dorado.
On Oct. 25, 1963, she married Ivan Lee Wells in Wichita.
Survivors include her husband, Alvin Wells, Wichita; a sister, Dee Rowland, El Dorado; and a brother, Wendell Williams, Waldron, Ark.
Lodine Pearson
ARDMORE, Okla. - E. Lodine Pearson, 63, of Ardmore, died July 24, 2000, at her residence following an extended illness.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church, and Dr. Alton Fannin will officiate. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery. Craddock Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials have been established with Crosstimbers Hospice and the First Baptist Church Building Fund.
Pearson was born Oct. 16, 1936, in Purdy, Mo., to Agnes Marie (Payne) and Frank Bartlett Herr. She graduated from Winfield High School and Southeastern State College, Durant, Okla.
In 1955 she moved to Ardmore from Winfield. On Nov. 17, 1956, she married Thomas Harold Pearson in Ardmore.
A retired Ardmore public school teacher, she had previously been employed at the Exchange National Bank.
Pearson was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Tommy Pearson, Ardmore; three sons, Scott Pearson, Tulsa, Mark Pearson, Arlington, Texas, and Paul Pearson, Ardmore; a sister, Lue Ethridge, Hobbs, N.M.; and seven grandchildren.
Doris Hendrix
Doris Hendrix, 57, of Winfield, formerly of Douglass and Arkansas City, died July 25, 2000.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Dunsford Chapel, 201 E. Fifth, Augusta. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 today.
A memorial has been established with the Cancer Center of Kansas, Winfield Heathcare Center, 1305 E. Fifth, Winfield, KS 67156.
She was a certified medical assistant at Cumbernauld Village.
Survivors include her companion, Bud Hendrix, Winfield; two sons, Buddy Hendrix, Winfield, and Bill Hendrix, Pratt; two daughters, Belinda Trobaugh, Dexter, and Colleen Hendrix, Ponca City; three brothers, Everett Wright, Montezuma, Bobby Wright, El Dorado, and Rex Wright, Arkansas City; a sister, Dorothy Russell, Udall; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Harold Cooley
DOUGLASS - Harold F. Cooley, 77, farmer and stockman, died July 26, 2000.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church. The Rev. Cliff F. Muci will officiate. Burial will be in Douglass Cemetery
with military services conducted by a contingent of the U.S. Army at Fort Riley. Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Cooley was born April 2, 1923, in Douglass, to Lucinda (Henshaw) and Frank Cooley.
On Aug. 29, 1942, he married Doris Reeser in Douglass.
A lifelong resident of Douglass, he was a member of the Douglass First Christian Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Cooley, Douglass; two daughters, Joyce Ellen Wright, Casa Grande, Ariz., and Cindy Thomas, Douglass; a brother, Bill Cooley, and two sisters, Leota Newman and Austie Graves, all of Douglass; four grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Grace Hargrove
ARKANSAS CITY - Grace Evelyn Hargrove, 83, homemaker, of Arkansas City, died July 25, 2000, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Hawks Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the Cowley County Community College Women's Softball Team. Contributions may be left at the funeral home.
Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday 1-8 p.m., and Monday 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Hargrove was born June 19, 1917, in Goff, to Grace Myrtle (Warner) and Edward McRoberts. She was raised and educated in the Topeka area and moved to Arkansas City prior to her marriage.
On May 14, 1935, she married Clarence Milton Hargrove in Newkirk, and they made their home in Arkansas City. He died April 15, 1995.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia J. Pitts, Arkansas City; five sons, Gary M. Hargrove, Belton, Texas, Charles L. Hargrove, Wichita, Eddie J. Hargrove, Derby, Larry W. Hargrove, Arkansas City, and Lowell K. Hargrove, Andover; 12 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
