Joe Bussard
Joe Bussard, 90, of Winfield, died Sept. 5, 2000, at Winfield Rest Haven.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Oxford Cemetery.
Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from noon to 5 p.m. Thursday.
A memorial has been established with the Kansas Foundation for the Blind. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Bussard was born Aug. 24, 1910, near Oxford, to Jessie (Hackney) and W.V. Bussard. In 1924 the family moved to Winfield and in 1928 he graduated from Winfield High School.
In 1932 he graduated from Southwestern College with a degree in English. After graduation, he worked at his family's grocery store on Fifth Avenue in Winfield until World War II.
In 1942 Bussard enlisted in the U.S. Army. He spent much of his time in the European Theater in France and Germany and received many awards, including the Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Ribbon, EAME and American Theater Ribbon and one Bronze Service Star. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
After the war, Bussard taught school in Rose Hill, Herington and Wellington for 26 years. He retired from Wellington High School in 1970 after teaching and coaching there for 21 years.
He was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his friends, Bob and Frances Warner, Winfield.
Elizabeth Murray
AUGUSTA - Elizabeth A. Murray, 78, of Augusta, formerly of Winfield, died Sept. 5, 2000, at Augusta Medical Complex.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Melby Mortuary in Mankato. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery
in Mankato.
Friends may call at the mortuary until 9 tonight.

Murray was born June 28, 1922, on a farm near Langley, to Myrtle and Charles Johnson. She attended a rural school near Langley and graduated from Montrose High School. She attended Southwestern College.
She married William Eugene Murray, and they were later divorced.
A medical records technician, she retired in 1990 from William Newton Memorial Hospital. She had also worked at Republic County Hospital in Belleville.
Murray was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Winfield.
Survivors include three daughters, Elaine Thomas, Mankato, Patricia Powell, Colony, and Terry Standley, Augusta; three sisters, Edna Rush, Wynoka, Okla., Ethyl Halse, Marquette, and the Rev. Eunice Davidson, Miltonvale; eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Orena Zimmerman
CEDAR VALE - Orena Vea Zimmerman, 73, of Cedar Vale, died Sept. 5, 2000, at Cedar Vale Community Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in North Cedar Cemetery. The Rev. Stanley Upchurch will officiate.
Friends may call at Wheeler Funeral Home from 5 to 8 this evening.
A memorial has been established with the Cedar Vale Community Hospital.
Zimmerman was born July 3, 1927, in rural Cedar Vale, to Lillie (Munday) and Charley Kennedy. She was raised in the Cedar Vale area and graduated from Cedar Vale High School in 1945.
On June 16, 1961, she married Bill Zimmerman.
She was a member of the Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Zimmerman, Cedar Vale; two sons, Jack Zimmerman, Cedar Vale, and Charles Zimmerman, Decatur, Ark.; and five grandchildren.
Barbara Carver
BURDEN - Barbara Ann Carver, 51, a homemaker, of Burden, died Sept. 5, 2000, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita following a lengthy illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Douglass Church of Christ. Keith Cross will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery
at Atlanta. Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home, Douglass, is in charge of arrangements.
Carver was born June 13, 1949, in Alva, Okla., to Emily June (Hiatt) and Corwin L. VanMeter. She graduated from Enid (Okla.) High School.
On July 5, 1968, she married Mike Carver. They lived in the Houston area for 15 years before moving to the Burden area. She was a bus driver for Central school district for 14 years.
Carver was a member of the Douglass Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, Mike Carver, Burden; four sons, David F. Carver, Arkansas City, Adam Carver, Winfield, David A. Carver, Hutchinson, and Robert Carver, Fort Stewart, Ga.; three daughters, Karen Carver, Emporia, and LeeAnne Carver and Nicole Carver, both of Burden; her parents, Corwin and June VanMeter, Atlanta; a brother, Mike VanMeter, and a sister, Peggy Satterlee, both of Winfield; and three grandsons.
Dorothy Daniels
Dorothy L. Daniels, 76, of Winfield, died Sept. 5, 2000, at Walnut Hill Nursing Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Highland Cemetery.

Daniels was born June 24, 1924, in Winfield, to Bertha (Paris) and William Heflin. She attended Winfield area schools.
On Jan. 17, 1942, she married James F. Daniels in Winfield. She was a homemaker most of her life. Her husband's military career took them to Germany, California and Washington before they returned to Winfield in 1967. She worked as a housekeeper at Good Samaritan Village from 1985 to 1990.
Her husband died March 27, 1996.
In 1997, she moved to Walnut Hill Nursing Center.
Survivors include a son, James F. Daniels Jr., and a sister, Thelma McGinnis, both of Winfield; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Hattie McGee
WELLINGTON - Hattie E. McGee, 84, of Wellington, formerly of Winfield, died Sept. 5, 2000, at her home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Prairie Lawn Cemetery. The Rev. Larry Stewart will officiate. Frank Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.
McGee was born June 29, 1916, in Kansas City, Mo., to Emma May (Treadway) and William H. McComas.
On Sept. 4, 1938, she married Warren E. McGee in Hastings, Neb. He died April 30, 1999.
McGee was the retired co-owner of McGee's Department Store.
A member of the First Presbyterian Church, she also belonged to a doll club, the Order of Eastern Star, Soroptimists, the Business and Professional Women and the Post Script Club.
Survivors include a brother, Bill McComas, Pampa, Texas, two grandchildren, Edwardd Johnn Elsass, Wellington, and Susann Lynn Elsass, Los Angeles; and two great-grandchildren.
A daughter, Nancee Sue Elsass, preceded her in death.
Leonard Neal
GEUDA SPRINGS - Leonard Eldon Neal, 78, of Geuda Springs, died Sept. 5, 2000, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center in Arkansas City.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Hawks Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery
near Arkansas City.
Friends may call at the funeral home until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to noon Friday.

Neal was born July 14, 1922, in Wellington, to Mabel (Gould) and Clarence E. Neal. He graduated from Wellington High School.
On March 18, 1943, he married Mary Ruth Helms in Arkansas City. They had lived in the Ashton and Geuda Springs communities since their marriage except during World War II when Neal served as a U.S. Army medic in the Philippines, the South Pacific and the Dutch East Indies.
For over 30 years he sold crop insurance and for 10 years worked at General Electric at Strother Field. He was a member of Mount Hope United Methodist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Neal, Geuda Springs; a son, Kirby Neal, Arkansas City; a brother, Dale Neal, Grove, Okla.; a sister, Melba Rey, Wichita; and two granddaughters.
A son, Randy Kim Neal, preceded him in death.
Millard Nigh
HOWARD - Millard Andrew Nigh, 87, longtime resident of rural Howard, died Sept. 6, 2000, at William Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Zimmerman Funeral Home. The Revs. Ted D. Davis and Ted Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with Hospice Inc. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Nigh was born July 8, 1913, on a farm west of Howard to Adah Marie (Morss) and William Nigh. He attended Mound Branch rural school and grew up in the Howard area.
On Nov. 23, 1932, he married Elizabeth Olive Woodall in Eureka. They owned and operated a farm northeast of Howard for more than 50 years. In 1953 Nigh began working in maintenance at Boeing Aircraft Co. in Wichita, amd he retired in 1966.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Nigh, Howard; a son, Tom Nigh, Winfield; a daughter, Donna Suter, Wichita; four granddaughters and four great-grandsons.
