Lucile Dixon

Lucile Magnus Dixon, 88, of Winfield, died Sept. 10, 2000, at William Newton Memorial Hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church. Burial will be in Dexter Cemetery.

Friends may call at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

A memorial has been established with the First Christian Church.

Dixon was born Jan. 2, 1912, in Dexter, to Clara (Carter) and Fred Magnus. She was raised and educated in the Maple City and Dexter area and graduated from Dexter High School.

On July 30, 1931, she married Frank L. Dixon. He died in 1962. A son, Leslie L. Dixon, died Jan. 9, 1983.

Employed at the Winfield State Hospital & Training Center from 1962 to 1974, she was a member of the First Christian Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and a member of Christian Women's Federation.

Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Jean Dixon, Winfield; two grandchildren and a great-grandson.

Jenifer Early

Jenifer Leann Early, 21, died Sept. 9, 2000, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Early was born July 11, 1979, in Winfield, to Laurie (Heitman) Hatfield and David E. Early. She lived and attended school in the Mulvane/Peck area.

She had attended Calvary Chapel Church in Wichita.

Survivors include a son, Jacob Kelley, Winfield; her mother, Laurie Hatfield, Winfield; her father, David E. Early, Medicine Park, Okla.; a brother, John H. Early, Winfield; three sisters, Tessa Early, Darby Early and Victoria Early, all of Cache, Okla.; and her grandparents, Leonard and Mildred Powell, Hannibal, Mo., and Roma Munford, Medicine Park, Okla.

Paul Howland

TOPEKA - Paul D. Howland, 79, of Topeka, died Sept. 10, 2000, at his home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Faith Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Friends may call at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel where the family will greet visitors from 6:30 to 8 tonight.

Memorial contributions may be given to Faith Lutheran Church, 1716 SW Gage Blvd., Topeka, KS 66604.

Howland was born Feb. 22, 1921, in Harper, to Clara and Raymond Howland. He was raised in Winfield where he graduated from high school. He attended Southwestern College and the University of Kansas in Lawrence and was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity.

Howland served in the U.S. Army during World War II in China, Burma and India. He attained the rank of master sergeant.

A resident of Topeka since 1966, he was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. for 42 years. He began his career in Wichita where he resided for 24 years and retired as training manager for the state.

Howland was a member and past president of the Telephone Pioneers of America and Faith Lutheran Church.

In 1946 he married Grace Nordyke in Wichita. She preceded him in death.

In July 1998 he married Arlene Eickmann Mohr.

Survivors include his wife, Arlene Howland, Topeka; a daughter, Paula Cree, Columbia, Md..; a son, Brad Howland, Tulsa, Okla.; a stepdaughter, Shirley Hann, Belleville; a sister, Phyllis Miller, Winfield; five grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren.

Dorothy Daniels

Services for Dorothy Lea Daniels were at 2 p.m. Sept. 8, 2000, in Highland Cemetery. The Rev. Ken Davidson officiated. Vocal music was "Amazing Grace."

A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.

Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Minnie Brown

Services for Minnie Bea Brown were held at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 14, 2000, at the Church of Christ. Kendall Fox, Gary Fox and Larry Scarth officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.

Music included "How Great Thou Art," "No Night There," "This World Is Not My Home" and "I've Got a Mansion."

Casket bearers were Norman Morris, Robert Banta, Larry Bogle, Bud Cook, Jeff Fluty and Steve Rice.

A memorial has been established with Winfield Rest Haven.

Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Lucile Dixon

Services for Lucile Magnus Dixon were held at 2 p.m. Sept. 14, 2000, at the First Christian Church. The Rev. Shawn Sturm officiated. Burial was in Dexter City Cemetery.

Georg Kemp sang "Ave Maria" and "Amazing Grace." Martha Brandenburg was the organist.

Casket bearers were Clyde Hatcher, Don Call, Gerald Magnus, Kenneth Magnus, Wade Magnus and Doug Walker.

A memorial has been established with First Christian Church.

Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Helen Fair

DENVER - Helen Jane Warren Fair, 55, of Denver, died Sept. 12, 2000, in Denver.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home in Arkansas City. The Rev. Joe P. Warren will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

Memorials have been established with the First Presbyterian Church library in Arkansas City and Hospice Inc. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Fair was born Jan. 2, 1945, in Arkansas City, to Pauline (Goff) and Joe E. Warren. A 1962 graduate of Arkansas City High School, she received her undergraduate degree from the University of Kansas in 1966 and her master's in library science from the University of Denver in 1978.

Fair was a senior legal secretary for Rothberger, Johnson and Lyons, LLP, for 15 years. The firm awarded her the Ira C. Rothberger Community Betterment Award in December 1999. The award included a $10,000 grant to the non-profit organization of her choice.

Fair served on the library committee of Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church in Denver for 28 years. She served as president of the Mile High Chapter of the Church and Synagogue Library Association and was a member of the Cat Care Society.

She volunteered with the elderly for 25 years, providing assistance ranging from reading and companionship to handling business, financial and estate matters.

Survivors include her parents, Pauline and Joe Warren, Arkansas City; and a brother, Jim Warren.

Elsie Morris

Elsie L. Morris, 86, of 905 Alexander, Winfield, died Sept. 14, 2000, at her residence.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be announced later.

A memorial has been established with the First Baptist Church. Contributions may be made at the church or Miles Funeral Service.

Morris was born Jan. 31, 1914, in rural Winfield, to Blanche R. (Rockwell) and Thaddeus O. Morris. A lifelong Winfield resident, she graduated from Winfield High School in 1934.

For 11 years she worked at Winfield Laundry as a press person. She retired in 1961.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Circle Ladies Group and William Newton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

Survivors include two cousins, Carl Morris, Shady Side, Md., and Olive Mooney, Carlsbad, Calif.

Jenifer Early

Services for Jenifer Early were held at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 15, 2000, in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. The Rev. Jim Croxson officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.

Brad Heisman, Marci Grace and Fay Zolinski sang "Go Rest High on That Mountain," "The Dance" and "It's Hard to Say Goodbye."

Casket bearers were Brent Bohanan, John Early, Daryl Croxson, Charlie Valz, Albert Cooper and Bennie Tammelin.
