Ida Brown

ATLANTA - Ida Brown, 96, of Atlanta, died Dec. 16, 2000, at her home after a long illness.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Douglass Cemetery with the Rev. Cliff F. Muci officiating. Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Brown was born April 9, 1904, in Cheatam County, Tenn. On Dec. 27, 1922, she married Lonnie Brown in Blandville, Ky. He died in 1977.

Survivors include a daughter, Bonnie Price, Atlanta; a sister, Susie Jones, Bertrand, Mo.; three grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Mildred Lindeman

ARKANSAS CITY - Mildred Eleanor Lindeman, 86, of Arkansas City, died Dec. 15, 2000, at her home.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Highland Cemetery at Winfield. The Rev. Gary Brown will officiate.

Friends may call at Hawks Funeral Home today until 8 p.m.

A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association.

Lindeman was born July 13, 1914, in Liberty Township to Oren R. and Emma (Berry) Ruggles. She grew up on a farm east of Winfield and attended a country school.

On Nov. 29, 1932, she married Clifford John David in Newkirk, Okla., and they lived in and around Winfield. He died June 1, 1971.

On Oct. 9, 1973, she married Charles Edward Lindeman in Arkansas City, and they lived east of Arkansas City. He died Sept. 19, 1996.

Lindeman was housekeeping supervisor at William Newton Hospital before her retirement.

She was a member of IXL Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Larry David, Arkansas City, and Keith David, Burden; a daughter, Judy Brockman, Arkansas City; four stepchildren, Larry, Ernie, Sherry and Roseta, addresses not given; 21 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

A son, Jerald David, preceded her in death.

Marjorie Persinger

LONGTON - Marjorie Jeane Persinger, 66, died Dec. 14, 2000, at her home in Longton.

Services were to be at 2 p.m. today at the Christian Community Church with Pastor David Sanchez officiating. Burial was in Longton Cemetery under the direction of Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.

Born July 9, 1934, near Longton, she was a daughter of Frank and Eleanor Marie (Baker) Vestal. She attended rural schools in the Longton area.

On March 11, 1951, she married Wilbur William "Bill" Persinger at Moline. They lived on a farm south of Longton, and she was a homemaker. In 1969 they moved into Longton. Her husband died April 21, 1996.

Survivors include two daughters, Melinda Beougher, Longton, and Melody Dickens, Cherryvale; a brother, Gary Vestal, Thornton, Colo.; a stepbrother, Francis Vestal, Salina; a half-sister, Lois Harris, Amarillo, Texas; and five grandchildren.

Herbert Greeley

Herbert Jackson Greeley, 95, of Winfield, died Dec. 18, 2000, at Winfield Rest Haven.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel with burial in Highland Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

A memorial has been established with the Winfield Food Pantry.

Greeley was born July 27, 1905, in El Dorado, to Herbert J. and Lucinda (Bailey) Greeley. He attended El Dorado schools and Kansas State University where he received training in land surveying.

On Oct. 9, 1925, he married Amy A. Smiley in Wichita. She died Feb. 18, 1980.

Greeley was employed as a civil engineer for Sedgwick, Cowley and Butler counties before retiring in 1970.

He was a member of the First Christian Church and the Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include a son, John Greeley, Wichita; two daughters, Margaret Hollabaugh, Los Alamos, N.M., and Nina Kershner, Mims, Fla.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Curtis Hodgson

ARKANSAS CITY - Curtis C. Hodgson, 87, of Arkansas City, died Dec. 18, 2000, at Medicalodge North.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Blessing Heights Church of God-Apostolic Faith with burial in Hope Cemetery.

Friends may call at Hawks Funeral Home until 8 this evening and from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday.

A memorial has been established with Blessing Heights Church.

Hodgson was born May 5, 1913, at Orr, Okla., to Walter and Martha Hodgson. He graduated from high school in Orr.

Hodgson moved from Enid, Okla., to Arkansas City in 1963. On July 31, 1964, he married Mary E. Still in Wellington, and they resided in Wellington.

Hodgson was a mechanic for more than 60 years. In Arkansas City he was service manager for A.L. Short Motors and Earl Haines. He also worked in the Presbyterian Manor maintenance department for five years before retiring in 1993.

Hodgson was a member of Blessing Heights Church of God-Apostolic Faith, Crescent Lodge 133, AF&AM, and the Wichita Consistory of the Scottish Rite.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Hodgson, Arkansas City; a daughter, Vella Mae Perry, Oklahoma; a stepson, Jim Webb, Arkansas City; two brothers, Laverne Hodgson and Joe Hodgson, both of Orr, Okla.; three sisters, Nettie Pruitt, Orr, Okla., Ina Brandon, Elmore City, Okla., and Ethel Newell, Del City, Okla.; four granddaughters, one stepgranddaughter and one stepgreat-granddaughter.

A son, Maurice Hodgson, preceded him in death.

Virginia Nichols

WICHITA - Virginia Marlene Nichols, 66, of Wichita, died Dec. 17, 2000, at Lakewood Heights Nursing Center.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield. Burial will be in Udall Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home until 9 this evening and from 9 a.m. until the service Wednesday.

A memorial has been established with the Salvation Army. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.

Nichols was born Jan. 9, 1934, near Udall, to Roy Wayne and Lila (Beiswanger) Cole. She graduated from Udall High School in 1952.

A resident of Wichita since 1960, she had been employed by TG&Y and Wal-Mart. She was a member of the Congregational Church in Udall.

Survivors include two sons, Martin Hefley, Wichita, and Ricky Hefley, Winfield; and a brother, Larry Cole, Tahlequah, Okla.

Glenice Stout

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Glenice B. Stout, 84, formerly of Atlanta, died Dec. 15, 2000, at a Huntsville hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Wilmot Cemetery northeast of Winfield.

Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday.

A memorial has been established with Trinity Methodist Church Alzheimer's Day Care in Huntsville. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.

Stout was born Dec. 26, 1915, at Atlanta, to Walter and Anna (Smalley) Meyer. She graduated from Atlanta High School in 1933.

On July 22, 1936, she married John Stout in Winfield. They lived on a farm near Atlanta from 1937 to 1990. She moved to Burden after her husband's death on April 11, 1990. In 1994 she moved to Huntsville to live with her daughter.

Stout was a member of the Atlanta Christian Church and had been a 4-H leader for many years.

Survivors include a son, Gary Stout, Winfield; a daughter, Judith Lynn Duvall, Huntsville, Ala.; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Marie Crow

DEXTER - M. Marie Crow, 83, of Dexter, died Dec. 18, 2000, at Grouse Valley Manor.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Christian Church, with burial in Dexter Cemetery.

Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield from noon to 9 p.m. Friday.

Memorials have been established with the First Christian Church, Grouse Valley Manor and Dexter High School Scholarship Fund. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.

Crow was born Nov. 6, 1917, south of Dexter, to J. Blaine and Alice Carol (Lewis) Adams. She attended Fairview Grade School and graduated from Dexter High School in 1935. She attended Park College in Parkville, Mo.

In the late 1930s and 1940s she worked for the Santa Fe Railroad and state highway offices in Topeka.

On June 14, 1949, she married William Duane "Bill" Crow in Elko, Nev. They farmed and raised livestock in the Maple City, Cedar Vale and Dexter areas. After retiring, they moved into Dexter.

Crow was a member of the First Christian Church and had been a Sunday school teacher. She was secretary of the Dexter Alumni Association for many years.

Survivors include her husband, Bill Crow, and a son, Michael Crow, both of Dexter; two daughters, Kathryn Spinks, Fredricksburg, Texas, and Christine Shultz, Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.; three sisters, Reta Earhart, Lake Oswego, Ore., Vera Grillo, Eugene, Ore., and Rosalie Allison, Sacramento, Calif.; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
