Dorothy Love
HOWARD - Dorothy Jean Love, 61, of Howard, died Dec. 27, 2000, at Howard Twilight Manor.
Her service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Christian Community Church in Longton. Pastor Dave Sanchez will officiate, and burial will be in Elk Falls Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the Center for Basic Cancer Research at Kansas State University. Contributions can be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home.
Born Feb. 21, 1939, she was a daughter of James Allen and Nellie Irene (Snyder) Boyer. She attended school in Latham and Leon.
On Sept. 23, 1957, she married Mr. Brothers at El Dorado. On Sept. 13, 1965, she married Bill Love at Elk Falls. Both marriages ended in divorce.
Love had lived in Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, New Mexico and Arizona.
She was a member of the Christian Community Church in Longton.
Survivors include four sons, Rick Brothers, Union City, Okla., Marvin Brothers, Lawrence, Joe Love, Howard, and Billy Love, Grenola; a brother, Charles Boyer, Latham; five sisters, Etta May Brant, El Dorado, Mary Smith, Longton, Laura Benoir, Augusta, Verna Navarra, California, and Virginia Hill, Hill City, Mo.; and 12 grandchildren.
A son, Terry Brothers, preceded her in death in 1992.
Harold Reed
YATES CENTER - Harold Bert Reed, 85, longtime resident of Yates Center, died Dec. 28, 2000, at the Hutchinson hospital.
His service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Campbell Funeral Home in Yates Center with burial in Yates Center Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society. Contributions can be sent to Campbell Funeral Home, P.O. Box 188, Yates Center, KS 66783.
Reed was born April 1, 1915, near Rose in Woodson County, to William Elbert and Madge (Sollars) Reed. He attended school at Maple Grove, Virgil and Humboldt and graduated from Yates Center High School.
He served with the U.S. Army in Panama and the South Pacific Theatre during World War II.
Reed then farmed and raised livestock in Woodson County until retiring in 1977.
On March 1, 1964, he married Anna Belle Miller Vadnals at Yates Center.
He attended the First Christian Church, was a member of the Yates Center Saddle Club and had served as a 4-H leader.
The Reeds moved to Hutchinson about a month ago to be near their daughter.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Belle Reed, Hutchinson; a son, Craig A. Reed, Winfield; a daughter, Trisha J. Burgey, Hutchinson; a stepson, Jerry Vadnais, Wichita; a stepdaughter, Becky Stout, Earlton; two sisters, Vivian Cary, Grandview, Mo., and Mildred Raymond, Shawnee; two brothers, Victor Reed, Albuquerque, N.M., and Kenneth Reed, Boulder Creek, Calif.; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Gordon Sutton
Services for Gordon Sutton were held at 2 p.m. Dec. 27, 2000, in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. Harold Gross officiated.
Music included "Candle in the Wind," "Mama, I'm Coming Home," "Little Drummer Boy" and "Amazing Grace" by Tammy Hearne.
Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Honorary casket bearers were Jarrod, Micah and Jeremy Sutton, Jay Reed, Mike Tillotson, Joshua Archer, Roy Barber and Keith, Chris and Jeremy Montgomery.
Casket bearers were Louie Alberding, Jim Ryser, Mike Tapia, Chuck Hogarth, Blake Porter, Mike Powell, Don Brooks and Kelly Holt.
Esther Stewart
SEDAN - Esther Cleo Stewart, 90, of Sedan, died Dec. 12, 2000, at Cedar Vale Community Hospital.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Dec. 16 at Sedan United Methodist Church, with burial in Belknap Cemetery. The Rev. Larry Bowyer officiated, and Graves-Baird Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials were established with the Sedan Senior Citizens and Sedan United Methodist Church.
Born Aug. 27, 1910, at Grenola, she was a daughter of Roy and Myrtle (Romine) House.
On May 9, 1931, she married Floyd Andrew Stewart at Howard. He died Nov. 29, 1946.
Stewart was a greenhouse grower and a member of Sedan United Methodist Church and Sedan Senior Citizens.
Survivors include three daughters, Marjorie Cooper, Cedar Vale, Dorothy Talbot, Overland Park, and Elizabeth Kerr, Coffeyville; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Leonard Biddle
Services for Leonard R. Biddle were held at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 30, 2000, at the First Baptist Church. The Rev. Warren Smith officiated.
Christie Muret sang "In the Garden" and "How Great Thou Art," and the congregation sang "Amazing Grace" and "On Eagles' Wings." Jane Smith was the organist.
Burial was in Highland Cemetery
with interment ceremonies conducted by Ancient Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 110. Wayne Rush was lecturer. Military rites were conducted by American Legion Post 10 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3544.
Honorary casket bearers were Warren Burden, Jesse, Mark, Matt and Mike Biddle, Adam and Brian Balzer, Wayne Grant and Aaron, Marion and Mike Rush.
Casket bearers were Robert Balzer, Pat and Richard Biddle, Gary Coon and Greg and Todd Rush.
Memorials have been established with Hospice Inc., the Cancer Center of Kansas and First Baptist Church.
Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
Ozella Cox
HOWARD - Ozella Mae Cox, 92, longtime Howard resident, died Dec. 28, 2000, at Howard Twilight Manor.
Her service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Zimmerman Funeral Home with Pastor Marty Dewitt officiating. A private burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the First Baptist Church of Howard.
Born Jan. 24, 1908, northeast of Howard, she was a daughter of Roy Perkins and Mary Bell (Hebb) Hillis. She attended attended Cresco rural school and Howard High School.
On June 27, 1925, she married Elmer Burton Cox at Fredonia. They lived and farmed in the Howard area for most of their lives. They were also caretakers of the Howard City Lake for a number of years.
Cox moved to Howard Twilight Manor in 1998.
She had been a member of the First Baptist Church in Howard since 1946. She was also a member of Ladonia Chapter 243, Order of the Eastern Star, at Elk Falls and the Royal Neighbors of America.
Survivors include two grandchildren, Rodney Harrod, Winfield, and Rogene Robbins, Ralston, Neb.; two great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a foster son, Dallas E. Harrod.
Red Lambert
Errol "Red" Lambert, 71, of Winfield, died Dec. 30, 2000, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
His service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Grace Episcopal Church. Cremation and inurnment will take place later.
Friends may call at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home from 8 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Memorials have been established with the Grace Episcopal Church Endowment Fund, American Cancer Society and Leukemia Society.
Lambert was born Aug. 22, 1929, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Aaron and Irene (Fahey) Lambert. He attended Catholic schools in Annandale and Minneapolis.
He served with the armed services during the Korean Conflict.
On Oct. 4, 1952, he married Cornelia "Sally" Logsdon in Wichita.
Lambert worked at the Palace Barber Shop in Winfield for 43 years after first working as a barber in Dewey, Okla.
He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and various bowling teams. He was a Canterbury Village board member.
Survivors include his wife, Sally Lambert, Winfield; two daughters, Maryln Golub and Jaylene Lambert, both of Overland Park; a brother, James Lambert, Brooklyn Park, Minn.; and six grandchildren.
Orin Brubaker
OXFORD - Orin Cecil Brubaker, 88, of Oxford, died Dec. 30, 2000, at William Newton Hospital in Winfield.
His service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Oxford Cemetery.
Friends may call at Oliver-Hawks Funeral Home from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Brubaker was born Jan. 17, 1912, at Dexter, to Fred and Maggie (Lefler) Brubaker. He attended Prairie View rural school near Dexter.
On May 16, 1930, he married Ethel Louise Graham in Winfield. She died Oct. 15, 1985.
The Brubakers lived in Dexter and Wellington before moving to Oxford in 1961. He was a millwright at Wolcott-Lincoln Grain Elevator at Wellington for 22 years before retiring in 1968.
Brubaker was a former member of the Dexter Masonic Lodge and Wichita Consistory of the Scottish Rite.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Wooldridge, Commerce, Okla., and Nancy Firebaugh, Wichita; a sister, Vesta Marshall, Wichita; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Don Brubaker, and a daughter, Shirley Poovey.
