Raymond Johnson

Raymond Clyde Johnson, 46, of Winfield, died Dec. 31, 2000, at William Newton Hospital.

His service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church. Cremation has taken place. Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Joe Thornton Scholarship Fund, American Cancer Society or any other charity.

Johnson was born Aug. 7, 1954, in Winfield, to Aaron Burr and Marilyn Jean Johnson. He graduated from Winfield High School in 1972 and attended Kansas State University.

Johnson had farmed and was currently in the insurance business. He was serving on the Cowley County Commission and as a Republican precinct committeeman.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen Johnson, Winfield, a son, Raymond Christopher Johnson, and a daughter, Carrie Johnson, both of Manhattan; his mother, Marilyn Johnson, Winfield; two brothers, Aaron B. Johnson, Virginia Beach, Va., and Daniel T. Johnson, Winfield; and a sister, Sarah Langenwalter, Winfield.

Bethel Killblane

ARKANSAS CITY - Bethel Joy Killblane, 54, of Arkansas City, died Dec. 29, 2000.

Her service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Central Christian Church. Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials have been established with the Central Christian Church Music Department.

Killblane was a former Winfield State Hospital and Training Center floor administrator and Social and Rehabilitation Services employee.

Survivors include her husband, Paul Killblane, Arkansas City; two sons, Sean Killblane, Winfield, and Chad Killblane, Kansas City; a brother, Dale Williams, Waco, Texas; and two sisters, Anne Burgess, Stafford, and Barbara Krout, Arkansas City.

Max Spoon

NEWTON - Max E. Spoon, 70, of Newton, formerly of Oxford, died Dec. 29, 2000, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Joseph Campus in Wichita.

His service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Oliver-Hawks Funeral Home, Oxford, with Pastor Wayne Handle officiating. Burial will be in Oxford Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home until 8 this evening.

Memorials have been established with the Oxford schools and the American Diabetes Association.

Spoon was born July 23, 1930, near Cherokee, Okla., to Elmer and Ethel Esthel Spoon. He attended Oxford schools.

On July 23, 1948, he married Eva Marie Cheuvront in Oxford. She died Jan. 7, 1987.

On Aug. 19, 1995, he married Maxine Wilson Martin in Oxford.

Spoon farmed, then worked at the Oxford Dehy Elevator and Parity Mills Elevator. For nearly 25 years he worked and farmed with Chuck Tallman in the Oxford area. Before retiring, he worked for the Oxford school district as maintenance supervisor for 10 years.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine Spoon, Newton; a son, Robert Spoon, Oxford; two daughters, Janet Donley, Oxford, and Linda Johnson, Winfield; a stepson, Al Siebel, Rock Springs, Wyo.; five stepdaughters, Sue Hicks, Stewartville, Minn., Lola "Bambi" Buck, Pueblo West, Colo., Sarah Ferris, Lamar, Colo., Jane Prine, Newton, and Jean Chavez, Omaha, Neb.; his stepmother, Lillian Spoon, Ponca City; six grandchildren, 14 stepgrandchildren, two great-grandchildren and five stepgreat-grandchildren.

Bernadine Steierl

HUTCHINSON - Bernadine Steierl, 93, of Hutchinson, longtime Nickerson area resident, died Jan. 1, 2001, at Hutchinson Hospital.

Her service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Midland Community United Church of Christ. The Rev. William J. Best will officiate, and burial will be in Sterling Community Cemetery. Elliott Mortuary of Hutchinson is in charge of arrangements.

Born Feb. 10, 1907, at Sterling, she was a daughter of John O. and Mary Eva (Stout) Stubbs. She graduated from Sterling High School in 1925.

On July 4, 1927, she married Roy K. Steierl in Larned. She was a homemaker.

Steierl was a member of Midland Community United Church of Christ, the Federated Women's Club, Order of Eastern Star Chapter 33 and the women's fellowship at church, all at Nickerson.

Survivors include her husband, Roy Steierl, Hutchinson; a son, Jerry Steierl, Nickerson; a daughter, Diane Detter, Winfield; two sisters, Evelyn Engelland, Sterling, and Esther Horton, Wichita; two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Henry Ulrich

UDALL - Henry A. Ulrich, 85, of Udall, retired owner of Ulrich Chevrolet, died Dec. 31, 2000.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Faith Lutheran Church in Derby and at 1 p.m. Thursday in a Phillipsburg cemetery. Smith Mortuary of Derby is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established with Faith Lutheran Church Preschool.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Ulrich, Udall; a son, Edward Ulrich, Branson, Mo.; a daughter, Esther Alexander, Wichita; a stepson, Harold Schanbacher, Udall; a stepdaughter, Ruth Ann Schwind, Cedar Creek, Texas; two sisters, Dorothea Tews, Milwaukee, Wis., and Marie Schulz, Great Bend; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

His first wife, Helen Ulrich, preceded him in death.

Frankie Cullison

Frankie Snow Cullison, 90, a longtime Winfield resident, died Jan. 1, 2001, at William Newton Hospital.

Her service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church with burial in Highland Cemetery. Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials have been established with the Cowley County Historical Society, Baden Hall Preservation Committee and Girl Scouts.

Cullison was born Jan. 29, 1910, in Springfield, Ill., to James Franklin and Annie (Bulpitt) Snow. After her mother died in 1916, she and her father and brother moved to Anthony to live with her grandmother, Sarah Sherman, and an aunt, Carrie L. Snow.

She later moved with her father and brother to a farm in Christian County, Ill. When she was 16, her father died, and she returned to Anthony. She graduated from Anthony High School and continued her education by taking correspondence and short-term courses.

On Oct. 12, 1930, she married George Marion Cullison.

Cullison was employed in bookkeeping and secretarial work. After her husband's death on Oct. 7, 1971, she owned and managed Cullison Lumber Co.

For more than 55 years, Cullison was a registered Girl Scout and Girl Scout leader. She trained many Girl Scout leaders.

She was active in the First Christian Church as a teacher.

Cullison was a member of the Cowley County Historical Society and served on the board of directors and in various other positions.

She served on the board of directors of the Baden Hall Preservation Committee and actively supported the historical preservation of Baden Hall.

Cullison was a member of the Rosetti Circle and Walnut Valley Quilters Guild.

She had been a recipient of the First Citizen Award given by CornerBank, N.A., for community service.

Survivors include a niece, Karen Snow O'Hanlon, Fulsom, Calif., and a nephew, Charles Snow, Pueblo, Colo.

Red Lambert

Services for Errol "Red" Lambert were held at 1 p.m. Jan. 2, 2001, at Grace Episcopal Church. Father Bob Layne and Deacon Tom Herlocker officiated.

Honorary casket bearers were Robert Duncan, Bob Jamison, James Bowlin, Virgil Brooks, Marvin and Randy Kaiser, Don Kearns, Henry Rutherford and Dean Smith.

Casket bearers were Lucien Barbour, Sam Logan, Gilbert Scott, Bill Taylor Jr., Bill Taylor III and Bill Wakefield.

Victor Martin was the usher.

Memorials have been established with the Grace Episcopal Church Endowment Fund, American Cancer Society and Leukemia Society.

Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

William Mahlandt

DOUGLASS - William C. Mahlandt, 86, of Douglass, a retired farmer, died Dec. 29, 2000, at Medicalodge of Douglass.

His service was to be at 10 a.m. today at the Douglass United Methodist Church. The Rev. Riet Stonger officiated, and burial was in Richland Cemetery. Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established with the Douglass Senior Center, 124 W. Fourth, Douglass, KS 67039.

Mahlandt was born Oct. 18, 1914, in Derby, to Charles D. and Freida (Toben) Mahlandt.

On June 27, 1939, he married Ruby Boucher in Wichita.

He was a lifelong resident of the Douglass area.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Mahlandt, Douglass, and a sister, Lillian Helmer, Leon.

Annetta Hanna

A memorial service for Annetta S. Hanna was held at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 3, 2001, at the First Baptist Church. The Rev. Warren Smith officiated.

Musicians included organist Laura Belle Haines, vocalist Dr. James Schuppener and pianist Jennifer Greever.

Ushers were Gary Holloway and Larry Rood.

Services for Raymond C. Johnson were held at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 3, 2001, at the First Christian Church. The Rev. Robert Layne, Thomas Herlocker and Suzanne Layne officiated. Jackie Hauer was the organist, and William A. Taylor III was the lector.
