Bill Kirkpatrick
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - William A. "Bill" Kirkpatrick, 77, formerly of Winfield, died Jan. 1, 2001, at Maranatha Village Nursing Home in Springfield.
His service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Highland Cemetery
at Winfield.
Friends may call at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home until 8 this evening.
A memorial has been established with the National Kidney Foundation of Kansas and Missouri.
Kirkpatrick was born July 31, 1923, in Wichita, to Fred W. and Gertrude Marie (Wells) Kirkpatrick. He lived in the Wichita and Winfield areas most of his life.
Kirkpatrick served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was a truck driver for Jones Truck Line.
Survivors include two daughters, Florine Barter, Gainsville, Texas, and Frances Shelton, Springfield, Mo.; two brothers, Donald Kirkpatrick, Eureka, and Willis Kirkpatrick, Newton; a sister, Florine Kaiser, Eureka; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Lorraine Lewis
Lorraine June Lewis, 71, of Winfield, died Jan. 2, 2001, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita following an extended illness.
Her service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Miles Funeral Service with burial in Burden Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 9 p.m. Friday and until the service Saturday.
A memorial has been established with Hospice Inc.
Born April 1, 1929, in Watertown, S.D., she was a daughter of Clifford G. and Alta B. (Parsons) Lewis. She moved to Winfield with her family in 1935 and graduated from Winfield High School in 1947.
Lewis was a child care provider for 40 years for many Winfield families.
She was a member of the First Christian Church.
Survivors include an aunt, Evelyn Combs, Winfield, and two cousins, Linda Cook, Wichita, and Glenn Combs, Branson, Mo.
Gene Rayl
MESA, Ariz. - Gene M. Rayl, 84, of Mesa, formerly of Winfield, died Dec. 31, 2000.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Elliott Mortuary Chapel, Hutchinson, with Dr. D. Allen Polen Jr. officiating. A private burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association.
Rayl was born May 9, 1916, in Hutchinson, to Thomas and Clara (Page) Rayl. He graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1935.
On April 20, 1940, he married Margaret S. Smith in Hutchinson.
A retired salesman, Rayl lived in Winfield from 1953 to 1972.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Rayl, Mesa, Ariz.; two sons, Michael Rayl, Wichita, and Robert Pat Rayl, Castle Rock, Colo.; two daughters, Brenda Braden, Tualtin, Ore., and Kathleen Rising, Wichita; a brother, Willard Rayl, Hutchinson; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Charles Weakley
Charles E. Weakley, 72, of Winfield, died Dec. 29, 2000, at William Newton Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Miles Funeral Service. There will be a private interment.
Weakley was born March 23, 1928, in Rockport, Mo., to Leonard L. and Mary Weakley. He attended Missouri schools.
Weakley lived at Parsons State Hospital for 13 years before moving to the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center in 1972. He later lived at Good Samaritan Village and Focus Developmental Center before moving to Southwinds in November 1999.
Survivors include a cousin, Everett Weakley, Wichita, and his guardian, Marnie Wall, Winfield.
Charles Colwell
Charles J. Colwell, 55, of Winfield, died Jan. 3, 2001, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Wichita.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Grandview United Methodist Church north of Winfield. Cremation has taken place, and there will be a private inurnment.
A memorial has been established with Joseph's Storehouse in Burden. Contributions can be made through Miles Funeral Service.
Colwell was born April 10, 1945, in Ottumwa, Iowa, to Charles Joey and Frances Margaret (Hunt) Colwell. He was raised at Boys Town, Neb., and graduated from high school there in 1963. He attended a college in Iowa and later Wichita State University.
Colwell served with the United States Navy from 1967 to 1971 and received the National Defense Service Medal.
On Nov. 19, 1988, he married Lillian Holland in Wichita, and they lived in Winfield.
Colwell was employed by Thompson Brothers Transportation for 25 years before retiring due to failing health.
He was a member of Grandview United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian Colwell, Winfield; a stepson, Robert Graham, Georgia; two stepdaughters, Margaret Steed, Ro se Hill, and Vipi Kinsey, Georgia; a brother, William Colwell, Omaha, Neb.; and 10 grandchildren.
Frankie Cullison
Services for Frankie Snow Cullison were held at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 4, 2001, at the First Christian Church. The Rev. Shawn Sturm officiated, and Martha Brandenburg was the organist.
Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Dave Seaton, Bill Howard, Brad Light, William Taylor III, Don Dietrick and Wally Behrhorst. Bill Long was an honorary casket bearer.
Memorials have been established with the Cowley County Historical Museum and the Girl Scouts.
Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
William Heinz
UDALL - William E. Heinz, 62, of Udall, died Jan. 2, 2001, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
Heinz was born Sept. 6, 1937, at Great Bend, to Leonard N. and Mildred E. (Doll) Heinz.
He was an auto mechanic, working both independently and for area auto dealers.
Heinz had lived in Rose Hill and Derby before moving to Udall.
Survivors include his fiancee, Rochelle McCroskey, and his mother, Mildred Heinz, both of Udall; two sons, William Heinz, Dallas, and Daniel Heinz, Wichita; a daughter, Lisa J. Harmon, and a brother, Marvin Heinz, both of Augusta; and one grandchild.
Grace Morgan
ATLANTA - Grace Morgan, 80, a resident of the Atlanta community for nearly 60 years, died Jan. 3, 2001, at Medicalodge of Douglass.
Her service will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Miles Funeral Service with burial in Wilmot Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday.
Memorials have been established with Prairie View United Methodist Church of rural Atlanta and Medicalodge of Douglass.
Born June 11, 1920, on a farm between Isabel and Cunningham in Pratt County, she was a daughter of Robert A. and Lela Grace (Falkingham) Wilson. She attended Isabel schools before moving to the Rock area with her family and working in domestic service.
On June 1, 1941, she married Lloyd W. Morgan near Rock, and they lived and farmed near Atlanta for nearly 60 years. She had resided at Medicalodge since 1994.
Morgan was a longtime member of Prairie View United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Lloyd Morgan, Atlanta; a son, Gary L. Morgan, Monument, Colo.; a daughter, Hazel L. Braungardt, Atlanta; four sisters, Stella Brill, Udall, Mary Etta Pruitt and Emma Twible, both of El Dorado, and Edith Spencer, Rock; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Jessie Shook
ARKANSAS CITY - Jessie Lee Shook, 67, of Arkansas City, died Jan. 4, 2001, at her residence.
Her service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. The Rev. Buddy Cook will officiate, and burial will be in Parker Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.
Born June 17, 1933, in Arkansas City, she was a daughter of James A. and Renee (Myers) Dickson. She attended Arkansas City schools, graduating from high school in 1950.
On Nov. 6, 1951, she married Dwain D. Shook in Arkansas City, and they resided there.
Shook was a homemaker and a cashier at Winfield's Wal-Mart for the past nine years. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Arkansas City.
Survivors include her husband, Dwain Shook, Arkansas City; two sons, Steve Shook, Derby, and David Shook, Winfield; a daughter, Rita Boyer, Neodesha; three brothers, Clarence, Frank and John Dickson, and a sister, Ruth Hatcher, all of Arkansas City; and seven grandchildren.
