Roy Barrera
ARKANSAS CITY - Rogelio "Roy" Barrera, 33, of Arkansas City, died Jan. 14, 2001, in a car accident near Udall.
Services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. The Rev. H. Dean LaVelle and Vern Richerson will officiate. Burial will be at 4 p.m. in Elkhart Cemetery.
A memorial has been established as the Roy Barrera Family Medical Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Barrera was born June 14, 1967, in Lubbock, Texas, to Belen (Serna) and Guadelupe Barrera. He was raised in Elkhart.
On Sept. 30, 1995, he married Leslee A. Bell in Minneola, and they made their home in Arkansas City.
He had worked as a meat cutter for Village Market and Prairieland Processors and was currently employed at Becker Tire.
Barrera was active in Drug Awareness and Resistance Education and Gang Resistance, Eduation and Training programs. He was a member of Bible Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Leslee Barrera, and a daughter, Stacia Barrera, both of Arkansas City; three sons, Colton Barrera, Lucas, and Garrett Gilliland and Talbott Gilliland, both of Arkansas City; five brothers, Joe Barrera, Liberal, Benny Barrera, Minneola, Billy Barrera, Snowflake, Ariz.; Roger Barrera, Las Vegas, and Terry Barrera, El Dorado; and six sisters, Beatrice Jesse, Guymon, Okla., Bertha Montoya, Ulysses, Yolanda Barrera, no address given, Bonnie DeHerrera, Liberal, LaTricia Aleman, Midland, Texas, and Tanya Barrera, Oklahoma City.
Aaron Estabrook
DODGE CITY - Aaron Ray Estabrook, 55, of Dodge City, died Jan. 16, 2001, at Western Plains Medical Complex in Dodge City.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Wilroads Gardens Christian Church. The Rev. Jeff Hiers will officiate. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Iola Township Cemetery. Swaim Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials have been established with United Methodist Youthville and the Kansas Firefighters Association.
Estabrook was born Nov. 21, 1945, in St. Joseph, Mo., to Claudia Marie (Dix) and Edwin Elbert Estabrook.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Fire Science degree from Western Illinois University in 1989 and a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Southwestern College in 1993.
From 1974 to 1987 he was a firefighter and paramedic with the Ford County Fire Department. In 1987 he joined the Arkansas City Fire Department where he was a firefighter until retiring in 1991.
At the time of his death, he was employed by United Methodist Youthville in Dodge City.
Estabrook was a swine leader for Wilroads Gardens 4-H Club, a board member of Kiwanis International and a member of the Lions Club. He attended Wilroads Gardens Christian Church and Dodge City United Methodist Church.
He was a member of the Kansas Firefighters Association, past president of the Ford County firefighters union and past member of the Kansas State Board of Emergency Medical Services. He was currently a cardiopulmonary resuscitation trainer.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Estabrook, and a son, Aaron Ray Estabrook Jr., Dodge City; two daughters, Jennifer Estabrook, Dodge City, and Petra Williams, Emporia; a sister, Judy McCullum, and a brother, Jerry Estabrook, both of Pryor, Okla.; and three grandchildren.
Kyle Huff
ARKANSAS CITY - Kyle Leroy Huff, 35, of Arkansas City, died Jan. 16, 2001, at his residence.
Cremation has been effected. No local service will be held. Friends may call from noon to 4 p.m. Friday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.
Huff was born June 7, 1965, in Winfield, to Frances (Roper) and Elvin Huff. He attended Arkansas City and Winfield schools.
On Jan. 9, 1995, he married Danielle A. LaRoque in Engelwood, Colo. They made their home in various cities in the Midwest, including Arkansas City and Winfield.
Huff was a self-employed computer technician and had served with the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Danielle Huff, Arkansas City; two brothers, Jeff Miller, Grenola, and Charlie Miller, Winfield; and a sister, Sherry Miller, Burden.
Georgia VanBuskirk
HOWARD - Georgia Marie VanBuskirk, 96, longtime resident of Howard, died Jan. 6, 2001, at Howard Twilight Manor.
A memorial service will be announced later. Cremation has taken place, and private burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with the First Baptist Church and Howard Twilight Manor. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home.
VanBuskirk was born Feb. 21, 1904, in Chautauqua County, to Laura Jane (Bates) and Samuel Otto Lane. She graduated from Moline High School.
On Oct. 15, 1921, she married Charles Bryan VanBuskirk in Howard. They remained residents of the Howard and Moline area throughout their lives. A homemaker, she also spent many years caring for young children.
VanBuskirk was a member of Rebekah Lodge, Columbia Chapter 142 Order of Eastern Star and First Baptist Church.
Her husband and an infant son, James Edward, preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Geraldine Wood, Alamogordo, N.M., and Joan Harris, Salina; a sister, Mildred Nash, Thousand Palms, Calif.; four grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Ernestine Stephens
PARSONS - Ernestine Stephens, 84, of Parsons, former longtime resident of Erie, died Jan. 19, 2001, at Parsons Presbyterian Manor.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Erie Federated Church. The Revs. Ralph Jarboe and Jan Hayen will officiate. Burial will be in East Hill Cemetery
in Erie.
The family will receive friends at the Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Erie from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
Memorials are suggested to the Erie Federated Church.
Stephens was born Nov. 10, 1916, in Arapahoe, Colo., to Anna Lou (Simison) and Ernest Kusel. The family returned to the Erie area when she was a small child. She attended Oak Grove School 77 near Erie and graduated from Erie High School in 1935.
She and Andra "Pat" Stephens married on Dec. 30, 1935, in Erie. After their marriage, they lived on a farm north of Walnut. In 1943 they moved to Erie and in 1992 to Parsons.
She was employed for 14 years as a telephone operator by Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Erie and later in Parsons. She then worked in the office of the Neosho County school superintendent. She later worked for Home State Bank in Erie until her retirement.
She was a member of the Erie Federated Church and of United Methodist Women, the Tuesday Study Club, Erie Chapter 136 Order of Eastern Star, the Erie Golf Club and the Erie Women's Bowling Association.
Survivors include her husband, Pat Stephens, Parsons Presbyterian Manor; a son, William "Bill" Stephens, Winfield; two daughters, Patricia "Patty" Hinshaw, Norman, Okla., and Mary L. O'Neal, Parsons; and seven grandchildren.
Jeanette Foskett
Jeanette M. Foskett, 81, of Winfield, died Jan. 18, 2001, at Winfield Resthaven.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Tannehill Cemetery.
Friends may call at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday.
A memorial has been suggested with the Michigan Lupus Foundation, 26202 Harper Ave., St. Clair Shores, MI 48081.
Foskett was born Nov. 20, 1919, in Winfield, to Bessie (Heydecker) and Arthur McClung. She attended Tannehill rural school and graduated from Winfield High School in 1937.
On March 29, 1947, she married Cash Pechin. He died in March 1970.
In July 1980 she married Roy J. Foskett in Arkansas City. He died in April 1985.
She worked at the Beech Aircraft Corp. as a timekeeper and payroll clerk and retired from that company.
Survivors include two sisters, Perle Miles, Wichita, and Kathleen Schlecht, Lewiston, Mich.; and a stepson, Michael Shellburn.
Evelyn Combs
Services for Evelyn M. Combs were held at 2 p.m. Jan. 19 in the Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Revs. Diane Massey and Steve Souther officiated. Burial was in Burden Cemetery.
Special music was "The Lord's Prayer" and "In the Garden."
A memorial has been established with the First Presbyterian Church.
Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
Rey Reynard
Amos F. "Rey" Reynard, 81, of Winfield, died Jan. 18, 2001, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Wichita.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday and from 9 a.m. to service time Monday.
A memorial has been established with Cumbernauld Village.
Reynard was born Nov. 20, 1919, in Wichita, to Flossie (Secoy) and Lincoln Reynard. He was raised in Wichita and graduated from high school there. He attended college in Wichita, then moved to Colorado where he was drafted into the service.
On Jan. 1, 1942, he entered the United States Army during World War II and served in the medical division in central Europe, Normandy, northern France and the Rhineland. He received several medals such as the Distinguished Unit Badge and the Good Conduct Medal.
In 1958 he married Jane Thomas in Wichita. They lived in many places, including Oregon, Colorado and Idaho before returning to Wichita. A pharmacist, he worked for Rieger's Medical Supply Co. in Wichita. Mikesson-Robbins Medical Co. transferred him many times which kept them on the move. In 1984 he took early retirement and the couple moved to Winfield.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jane Reynard, Winfield; a son, Gary Lynn Reynard, Wichita; three stepdaughters, Charlotte Sterns, Burden, Mary Cherokee Clark, Winfield, and Artist Ann Sterling, Yakima, Wash.; three grandchildren, 11 stepgrandchildren, 19 stepgreat-grandchildren and four stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
