HARNISH, Dorothy May Harnish, 95 years old of Winchester, KS. died Wednesday, July 20th, 2005 at the Atchison Hospital, Atchison, KS.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 25th, 2005 at the O’Trimble Funeral Home, Nortonville, KS. Burial will follow in the Reformed Presbyterian Cemetery, Winchester, KS. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until time of services on Monday at the O’Trimble Funeral Home, Nortonville, KS. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Winchester Hospital.

Dorothy was born on August 23, 1909 in Pomona, KS., the daughter of John S. and Metta E. ( Harrison ) Thomas. She graduated from Effingham High School and attended teachers college. Mrs. Harnish worked as a teacher for rural Atchison County Schools, and Winchester Grade School for 10 years. She was a member of the Winchester Christian Church, a Sunday school teacher and pastel artists. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, word puzzles, and collecting poems.

She was married to Paul Harnish on June 6, 1937 in Atchison; KS. Mr. Harnish preceded her in death on Feb. 19, 1999. Her parents, a brother Sid Thomas and sister, Elizabeth Thomas also preceded her in death. Survivors include a son; John A. and his wife Bev Harnish, San Diego, CA., two daughters, Elizabeth and her husband Robert Noll, Winchester, KS., and Edith Zunker, Sioux City, IA., a sister-in-law, Francis Harnish, Leavenworth, KS., eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

BARNES, Robert J. Barnes, 68, Atchison, KS passed away Saturday, July 16, 2005 at Atchison Hospital.

Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Friday, July 22, 2005 at Leavenworth National Cemetery. The body has been cremated under direction of Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home.

Mr. Barnes was born August 1, 1936 in Minneapolis, Minnesota the son of Jim and Delores (Sidle) Barnes. He graduated from San Fernando Valley High School. He was a U.S. Airforce veteran serving from 1954 to 1957. He moved to the Atchison area in the 1970’s . He was a contract residential painter throughout the Kansas City area for a number of years. Robert enjoyed fishing.

Mr. Barnes married Jessie Pinkman on December 18, 1975, and raised 2 step children Misty and Robert Meek, they divorced.

He is survived by his sister Bonnie Villa and her husband Robin of Billings, Montana. Numerous nieces and nephews and special friend Betty Jean Minor of Atchison, KS.

LENTZ, James Albert Lentz, 71, Leavenworth, formerly of Winchester, KS passed away Sunday, July 17, 2005 at Medicalodge of Leavenworth.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 20, 2005 at the New Testament Christian Church, Winchester, KS. Burial at Nortonville Cemetery, Nortonville, KS. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 PM Wednesday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Kidney Foundation and left in care of O’Trimble Funeral Home, Nortonville, KS.

Mr. Lentz was born July 18, 1933 in Beverly, MO. the son of James Adam and Sadie Mae (Norris) Lentz. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He retired from GNB Battery in Leavenworth after 37 years. He was a member of the New Testament Christian Church in Leavenworth where he was Deacon and church Elder. James enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening and woodcarving, he made numerous walking canes from tree limbs. He especially loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He married Janet Irene Moberly on April 1, 1956 in Leavenworth, KS. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include James Lentz and his wife Sue of Bashor, KS; Richard Lentz of Winchester, KS and Keith Lentz of Winchester, KS. Daughters Donieta McVay and her husband Rick of Leavenworth, KS and Becky Belveal and her husband Steve of Nortonville, KS. 20 grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Brother Calvin Lentz of Farley, MO, sisters Agatha Tinder of Leavenworth, KS; Betty Lou Lentz of Kansas City, MO and Doris Price of Medford, OR.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a half brother John Henry Andrews, half sister Beulah Peterson and a grandchild.

McGREGOR, Herschel V. McGregor, 90 Plattsburg, MO formerly of Atchison, KS passed away Monday, July 11, 2005 at Oakridge Nursing Home in Plattsburg, MO.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday, July 15, 2005 at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison, KS. Burial at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00 PM Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Oakridge Nursing Home and left in care of the funeral home.

Mr. McGregor was born January 7, 1915 in Troy, KS the son of Robert and Minnie (Abbott) McGregor. Herschel worked for numerous garages in Atchison including Cadillac Garage-Miller Chevrolet and Mo-Kan Nash Garage. After retirement he enjoyed fishing.

He married Dorine Dittemore on April 15, 1935 in Troy, KS. She preceded him in death on December 15, 1988. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a brother William McGregor.

Survivors include his sons Herschel H. McGregor and his wife Barbara of St. Joseph, MO; Lee McGregor and his wife Carol of Lathrop, MO; Don McGregor of Atchison, KS and an adopted son Jason Woods-McGregor of Kansas City, MO. 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 8 great great grandchildren.

HOOD, Doris Irene Hood, 88 years old, formerly of Atchison, KS., died Monday, July 11, 2005 in Denver, CO.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 16th, 2005 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 PM on Friday, July 15th at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Society.

Doris Irene Hand was born on April 12, 1917 in Ottumwa, Iowa and grew up in Atchison, where she met her husband Dr. LeRoy Hood. Dr. Hood preceded her in death on April 30, 1999. Mrs. Hood had live in Kansas, Minnesota and Florida before moving to Denver, CO. in 1993. She was a past president of the Greater Minneapolis Church Women United, a member of the PEO and an active volunteer in the Meals on Wheels program.

Survivors include a daughter; Carolyn Salter, Denver, Co., a son, Leroy Hood, Raleigh, NC, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Toews, Fern E., Fern Esther (Rickard) Toews, 91 years old, of Atchison, KS. died Friday, July 8, 2005 at the Heartland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph, MO

Memorial services will be held at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, July 13, 2005 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, with Rev. Robert Ziegler officiating. Visitation with the family will follow the services until 8:30 PM at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison, Ks. The body has been cremated and interment of the cremated remains will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday, July 14th, 2005 in the Fairlawn Cemetery, Hutchinson, KS. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Trinity Lutheran Church Endowment Fund. Condolences to the family may be left on line at www.beckerdyer.com.

Fern Esther Rickard was born on June 11, 1914 in Hutchinson, KS. the daughter of William and Lillian M. (Schlegel) Rickard. She attended schools in Hutchinson. Fern worked for the Oklahoma Tire & Supply Store, Hutchinson before moving to Atchison, KS. She did private babysitting, before working as a nurse’s aide both at Cray Senior Manor and Atchison Medicalodge. Mrs. Toews for many years would work at the Dairy Barn, at the Kansas State Fair, in Hutchinson, KS. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, a member of the Morning Break Women’s group of the church. She attended the Shepherd’s Center, Atchison, and was an avid reader, enjoyed crocheting Afghans, and was a world traveler.

She was married to Abraham Gerhard Willems Toews on May 1, 1941 in Eldorado, KS., Mr. Toews preceded him in death on Feb. 20, 1972. Survivors include; two sons; Steven G. and his wife, Helga Toews, Athens, Alabama, and Reagen S. and his wife, Katie Toews, Atchison, KS., two daughters; Kathleen L. and her husband Don Swanson, St. Paul, MN., and Christy M. Toews, Atchison, KS., a sister, Maxine Setzer, Hutchinson, KS, eight grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.

DUNN, Riki Solaire Dunn, 26, Atchison, KS passed away Saturday, November 19, 2005.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Wednesday, November 23, 2005 at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison, KS. Burial in Larkinburg Cemetery near Holton, KS. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday, November 22, 2005 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to her Children’s Education Fund and sent in care of Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. 800 Kansas Ave, Atchison, KS 66002.

Riki was born July 4, 1979 in Branson, MO the daughter of Paul Michael and Luetta Jane (Peterson) Dunn. She was attending NEKTC to become an LPN, and had been employed at Golden Star. Riki was a member of the Girl Scouts and a member of the St. James General Baptist Church, Kirbyville, MO. when she was younger. She enjoyed traveling, music, dressing up, interior decorating, and flower gardening. Riki loved her family.

She married Charles Trautolff, III, they were later divorced.

Survivors include her children Daisy, Jasmine and Ryan, all of the home. Mother Luetta Heineken and her husband Terry of Rushville. Father Michael Dunn and his wife Cathy of McAlester, OK. Sisters Mariah Dunn and Ellianna Dunn; brothers Alex Dunn, Phillip Dunn, step brothers Seth Murphy and Jesse Murphy. Maternal grandfather Louis Peterson, Arrington, KS; Paternal grandmother Raylene Bruns, Rockaway Beach, MO. and additional family members.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother Louise Peterson, great grandfather Ray McCauley and great grandmother Thelma McCauley
