Roy Williams

LEON - Roy E. Williams, 84, of Leon, formerly of Winfield, died March 6, 2001.

Services will be private. Smith Mortuary in Derby is in charge of arrangements.

Williams was self-employed in the dairy industry before his retirement.

Survivor include his wife, Claudette Williams, Leon; three daughters, Shirley Crietz, San Jose, Calif., Barbara Landers, Statesville, N.C., and Judy Lay, Caldwell, Idaho; two sons, Robert Williams, Ponca City, and Barry Williams, Soap Lake, Wash.; a stepdaughter, Carolyn Drechsler, Wichita; a stepson, Bud Carel, Augusta; a sister, Jean Carpenter, Ozark, Ark.; five brothers, Elden Williams, Modesto, Calif., Doyle Williams and Curtis Williams, both of Ceres, Calif., Dean Williams, Ely, Nev.; and Harlan Williams, Columbia, Calif.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Hortense Cannon

PARSONS - Hortense L. Cannon, 93, longtime resident of Parsons, died March 8, 2001, at Parsons Presbyterian Manor.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 112 N. 26th. The Rev. John Schaich will officiate. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and after 8 a.m. Monday.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Operation Bright Touch.

Cannon was born April 19, 1907, in Kansas City, Mo., to Myra (Scheller) and John A. Dickerson. The family moved to the Parsons area when she was a small child. She attended Prairie Valley School and later Olson's Business College.

On Feb. 18, 1928, she married Otto H. Cannon in Oswego. He died Aug. 5, 1973.

For several years, Cannon was employed by Broderick Manufacturing Co.

She had been active in the TOPS club in past years.

A daughter, Myra J. Dringenberg, died May 2, 1991.

Survivors include a son, Richard L. Cannon, Winfield; a sister, Virginia Sanders, Parsons; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Lucille Crismas

HOWARD- Lydia Lucille Crismas, 90, resident of Howard, died March 8, 2001, at Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard. Interment will be held at Grace Lawn Cemetery.

Memorial have been established with Howard Twilight Manor and the Howard Church of Christ.

Crismas was born on Sept. 2, 1910 on a farm in Elk County to James Robert and Nancy Belle (Morgan) Richards. She attended Rural Vale and Union Valley rural schools and also attended Severy High School.

On Feb. 16, 1928, she married Everett Harold Crismas in Fredonia.

A son, Robert Crismas, died Feb. 13, 2001.

Survivors include husband Everett of the home; son Richard of Springfield, Mo.; daughters, Shirley Wunderlich of Piedmont, Melba George and Linda Crismas, both of Wichita; brother, Harold Richards of Rantoul; sister Mary Hickox of Fredonia; 15 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Norma Smith

Norma H. Smith, 81, of Winfield, died March 8, 2001, at Good Samaritan Village.

Services are set for 10:30 a.m. Monday at Swisher-Taylor chapel. Interment will be at the Udall City Cemetery.

Friends may call the funeral home from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.

Memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice Inc.

Smith was born Feb. 29, 1920 in Winfield. Her parents were Floral Isaac and Goldina (Beard) Darnell. She married Chester Smith Feb. 11, 1940.

They had lived most of their married life in Udall moving to Winfield three years ago. She was a member of the Udall First United Methodist Church, Olive Club and the Rug Club.

Survivors include husband Chester, of the home; sons, Richard, of Udall, Robert of Rose Hill, Carl, David and Kevin, all of Winfield; daughter Kathryn Witte of Oxford; brother Arthur James Darnell of Phoenix, Ariz.; sisters, Jeanne Brown of Winfield, Genevive Meir of Nixa, Mo.; 24 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren.

Erma Aguinaga

ARKANSAS CITY - Erma L. Aguinaga, 84, of Arkansas City, died March 10, 2001, at Medicalodge East.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in Highland Cemetery of Winfield. The Rev. Robert Layne will officiate.

Friends may call at Hawks Funeral Home from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Inc., 313 S. Market, Wichita, KS 67202, or they can be sent in care of the funeral home.

Aguinaga was born March 23, 1916, in Howard, to Melinda (Wilson) and Solomon Baughman. She attended school in Ponca City.

On Dec. 17, 1932, she married Pedro Aguinaga in White City, Okla. He died Feb. 8, 1990.

A homemaker, she was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.

Survivors include four sons, Ramon Aguinaga, Phoenix, Gordon Aguinaga, Lake Jackson, Texas, and Tom Aguinaga and Jake Aguinaga, both of Arkansas City; four daughters, Darlena Redwine, Santa Fe, Texas, Dorothy Moore, Arkansas City, Alice Smith, Barstow, Calif., and Jonita Gautreau, Winfield; a brother, Floyd Baughman, Crestview, Fla.; 22 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 10

Curly Blenden

TOPEKA - Elston Franklin "Curly" Blenden, 81, formerly of Cedar Vale, died March 10, 2001, at Woodland Health Center in Topeka.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday in Maple City Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 8 tonight at Wheeler Funeral Home in Cedar Vale.

A memorial has been established with Woodland Health Center in Topeka.

Blenden was born Aug. 11, 1919, in Dexter, to Frank and Goldie (Stark) Blenden.

On March 21, 1941, he married Maggie Lorene Herrington.

He worked as a truck driver for Southwest Freight Lines for several years and in the oil fields in Kansas and Oklahoma. Later he was a cattle truck driver for Smith & Carson Co., Holton. The Blendens moved to Topeka where he worked in construction until retirement.

Blenden is survived by his wife, Maggie Blenden, and two sons, Gary Blenden and Samuel Blenden, all of Topeka; two daughters, Frances Chaffee, Dewey, Okla., and Joyce Cerone, Ridgecrest, Calif.; 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

John Blenz

ARKANSAS CITY - John Leon Blenz, 60, of Arkansas City, died March 10, 2001, at the Veterans Administration hospital in Wichita.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Newkirk City Cemetery.

Memorials have been established with St. Jude Children's Hospital and the Shriners' Plane of Mercy. Contributions may be made through Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.

Blenz was born Feb. 6, 1941, on a farm east of Newkirk, to Stella (Ramsey) and Dave Johnson. After their deaths, he was adopted by Ralph and Thelma Blenz and was raised and educated in Wyoming.

In 1958 he joined the U.S. Navy and served in the Vietnam War on the USS Hamner, the USS Epperson and the USS Forrester until 1968.

He married Nancy Roeseler in 1965. He later married Shirley Lever.

Blenz worked at Boeing and Cessna as a mechanic. At the time of his death, he was working as a highway escort for oversized loads.

Survivors include two sons, David Blenz and John Blenz, both of Arkansas City; three sisters, Virginia Schoonover, Arkansas City, Emma Jo Jennings, Farmington, Mo., and Marge Hunt, Duluth, Minn.; and three grandchildren.

Leona Fraley

ARKANSAS CITY - Leona Fraley, 78, of Arkansas City, died March 9, 2001, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.

Services were to be at 10:30 a.m. today at the First Southern Baptist Church. The Rev. Mike Cosgrove officiated. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the church. Contributions may be made through Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.

Fraley was born Sept. 28, 1922, in Blackwell, Texas, to Laura Elizabeth (Doggett) and John Stephen McKaughan. She was raised and educated in Texas.

On Dec. 16, 1939, she married Eugene Fraley in Arizona. The couple made their home in Arizona before moving to Arkansas City in 1962 after retiring from farming. Her husband preceded her in death.

She was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church and the South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center Auxiliary.

Survivors include four sons, Fred Fraley and David Fraley, both of Arkansas City, Jerry Fraley, Apopka, Fla., and Rick Fraley, Burden; two daughters, Pat Lemaster, Willcox, Ariz., and Ruby Eastman, Arkansas City; a stepson, Kenneth Fraley, Lawton, Okla.; two sisters, Thanie Madewell, Eloy, Ariz., and Lily Jones, Dequeen, Ark.; 12 grandchildren, one stepgrandchild and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Steve Gerkin

HOWARD - Steven Wesley "Steve" Gerkin, 50, of Howard, died March 10, 2001, at Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Zimmerman Funeral Home. Lloyd G. Zimmerman will officiate. Burial will be in Piedmont Cemetery.

Gerkin was born Feb. 15, 1951, in Wichita, to Joseph Paul and Dorothy Mae (Hague) Gerkin.

He attended Piedmont Grade School and graduated from Eureka High School. In the late 1960s he served in the United States Army. He lived in Stroud, Okla., before returning to Kansas and had made his home at Howard in recent years.

On March 16, 1990, he married Jan Kay Layton at Bartlesville. They owned and operated the S&J Cafe in Howard until he became employed by Raytheon Corp. in Wichita. He had been recovering from an illness the past few months.

Gerkin was a member of Hope Lodge 155 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons in Howard.

Gerkin is survived by his wife, Jan Gerkin, and his son, Joe Gerkin, both of Howard.
