Marjorie Russell

GEUDA SPRINGS - Marjorie Ann Russell, 72, of Geuda Springs, died March 12, 2001, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home in Arkansas City. The Rev. David Lemke will officiate. Burial will be in Geuda Springs Cemetery.

Memorials have been established with Geuda Springs Community Church and Geuda Springs Pride. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Russell was born Sept. 8, 1920, in Holdredge, Neb., to Vadie (Swanson) and Frank Jurs. After moving to Arkansas City in 1937, she attended Ashton Grade School and graduated from Geuda Springs High School in 1947. She continued her education at William Newton Memorial Hospital School of Nursing in Winfield.

On Feb. 4, 1948, she married Bill R. Russell in Newkirk, and they made their home in Geuda Springs.

A registered nurse, Russell worked at Arkansas City Memorial Hospital and William Newton Hospital. She also worked at Winfield State Hospital and Training Center from 1962 until her retirement in 1992.

Russell was a member of the Geuda Springs Community Church and the Geuda Springs Pride and Garden Club.

Survivors include four sons, Liscomb "Lickie" Russell, Wellington, Bill J. Russell, Arkansas City, Phillip G. Russell, Enid, Okla., and Steven B. Russell, Geuda Springs; a brother, Ralph Jurs, Loveland, Colo.; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Her husband died in 1993.

Marion Arnold

Marion S. Arnold, 81, formerly of Benton, died March 14, 2001, at the Kansas Veterans Home at Winfield.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. Burial will be in Benton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday.

A memorial has been established with the Kansas Veterans Home at Winfield, 1220 World War II Drive, Winfield, KS 67156.

Arnold was born May 22, 1919, in Beaver, Okla., to Hannah (Anderson) and Sumner Arnold.

A World War II veteran, he served with the 295th combat engineers from 1945 to 1948.

In 1970 he married Ethel Smith. She preceded him in death.

Arnold farmed in the Benton area and worked as a sheet metal worker for Boeing.

Survivors include a stepson, Robert Smith, Derby; a stepdaughter, Betty Watson, Wichita; a brother, Roy Arnold, Kaw City, Okla.; and two sisters, Edna Wright, Bentonville, Ark., and Evelyn Clark, Wichita.

Ruby Conner

OXFORD - Ruby M. Conner, 99, of Oxford, former longtime resident of Burden, died March 10, 2001, at Riverview Manor.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in Burden Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday.

Memorials have been established with the American Diabetes Association and Riverview Manor. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Conner was born Nov. 11, 1901, in Burden, to Belle (Godwin) and McClellan Tredway. She was raised in the Burden community and educated at Willow Branch rural school.

On April 9, 1921, she married Benjamin Conner in Winfield, and they made their first home in Olathe. They later returned to Burden where she worked as a restaurant cook. Employed for 12 years as head cook and dietitian for the Central school district, Conner retired in 1971.

Her husband died Aug. 6, 1974. She had resided in Oxford since 1975 and at Riverview Manor since 1994.

Conner was a member of the Oxford Baptist Church and a former longtime member of the Burden Baptist Church. She was a member and past noble grand of the Rebekah Lodge. She was also affiliated with the St. Patrick's Club and the Kick-a-poo, Sunchasers and Borderline camping groups.

A son, Devon Conner, preceded her in death.

Survivors include three sons, Dale Conner, Pittsburg, Doyle Conner, Belle Plaine, and Darrel Conner, Campbell Hill, Ill.; nine grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Marjorie Clyde-Linge

MOLINE - Marjorie Clyde-Linge, 74, longtime resident of Moline, died March 12, 2001, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Joseph Campus in Wichita.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Moline Christian Church. Pastor Ted Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Moline Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with Moline Christian Church. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.

Clyde-Linge was born May 24, 1926, in Moline, to Audrey Gertrude (Wolverton) and Orville Edgar Mills. She graduated from Moline High School in 1944.

After high school, she was employed by Trans World Airlines in Kansas City.

In May 1952 she married Nathan L. Clyde in Kansas City, Kan. They made their home in Kansas City until 1972 when they moved to Moline. There they owned and operated a Western Auto store. Her husband died in 1977 and her son John in 1978.

After selling the Western Auto business in 1978, Clyde-Linge and her sister owned and operated the Corner Cafe' in Moline. She was also the Moline correspondent for the Elk County Reporter for many years.

On Oct. 20, 1991, she married Marion Linge in Salt Lake City, and they made their home in Moline. He died July 10, 1993.

Clyde-Linge was a member of the Royal Neighbors, the Mothers Club, the Sew-N-Sew Club, a bridge club, the Ferguson-Spease American Legion Post 388 Ladies Auxiliary and Ladonia Chapter 243 Order of Eastern Star. She had been a longtime member of the Moline United Methodist Church and was currently a member of the Moline Christian Church.

Survivors include a son, Chris Clyde, Derby; a daughter, Susan Heinz, Port Byron, Ill.; her brothers, Calvin Mills and Rodger Mills, both of Moline, and Harold Dean Mills, Clearwater; her sister, Pat Custer, Moline; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Alfred Corle

HOWARD - Alfred Richard Corle, 86, of Howard, died March 13, 2001, at Mercy Hospital in Independence.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Elk Falls Cemetery. The Rev. Ted D. Davis will officiate. Casket bearers will be Corle's grandsons, Thomas Lee, Terry and Kevin Tuck; Steven, Alan, Justin and Danny Corle and Jerry Denny.

A memorial has been established with the American Diabetes Association. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home.

Corle was born June 1, 1914, in Havana, to Viva Ophelia (Key) and Franklin Leslie Corle.

On Dec. 9, 1936, he married Mabel Dora Geren in Niotaze, and they began farming near Caney. They later farmed and ranched for eight years in the Oklahoma panhandle before returning to the Caney community. In 1951 the family moved to Elk County. Corle had lived in the Howard community for the past several years. His wife died Nov. 9, 1990.

Survivors include his sons, Joe Corle, Moline, Larry Corle, Coffeyville, Charles Wilbur Corle, Wichita, Gene Corle, Elk Falls, and Jim Corle, Liberty; a daughter, Nancy Tuck, Elk Falls; three brothers, Henry Corle, Caney, Charlie Corle, Iowa, and Elmer Corle, Idaho; a sister, Nellie Moore, Havana; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and a special friend, Delphia Conn, Liberty.

Lois Dimit

Services for Lois Olive (Kelly) Dimit were held at 2 p.m. March 14, 2001, in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Rick Thornton officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.

Wanda Andreas was the soloist, and Laura Belle Haines was the organist. Music included "Hymn of Promise," "Blessed Assurance," "God Be With You Till We Meet Again" and "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling."

Honorary casket bearers were Mark Bean, Jacob Dimit, Bill and Gary Garrison, Matthew Kaiser, Danny Morrow, Vernon Orndorff and Clinton Shorter.

Casket bearers were Troy Arie, David, John and Scott Dimit, Ian Kottenstette and Jeff, Tony and Tyson Russell.

Avis Bennett

BURDEN - Avis Bennett, 95, of Burden, died March 15, 2001, at Seiling (Okla.) Municipal Hospital.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Mount Vernon Cemetery east of Atlanta.

Friends may call at Wheeler Funeral Home of Burden from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday.

Curly Blenden

MAPLE CITY - Services for Elston F. "Curly" Blenden were held at 10:30 a.m. March 13, 2001, in Maple City Cemetery. The Rev. Stanley Upchurch officiated.

Family members served as casket bearers.

A memorial has been established with Woodland Health Center of Topeka.

Wheeler Funeral Home of Cedar Vale was in charge of arrangements.

Patricia Rood



Services for Patricia Ruth (Coad) Rood were held at 10:30 a.m. March 15, 2001, at the First Baptist Church. Dr. James M. McIntosh Jr. officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.

Marilyn Buffum was the organist, and Christie Muret was the soloist. The congregation sang "Amazing Grace." Other music was "The Lord's Prayer" by Mallotte and "O Master, Let Us Walk with Thee" by Sjolumd.

Ushers were Ralph Hanna, LeRoy Young and Jim Goodwin.

Casket bearers were Don Drennan, Richard Tredway, Larry Flick, Gary Holloway, Allen Hein and Roland Schmidt.

Memorials have been established with the First Baptist Church and Legacy, a regional foundation.

Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
