Louise Womacks
Services for Louise H. Womacks were held at 11 a.m. March 15, 2001, in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. Pastor Larry Womacks and the Revs. Bradley Harrison and Kirk Womacks officiated. Burial was in Atlanta Cemetery.
Jaci Thompson-Hall performed "Look at Me" and "Amazing Grace."
Burden Chapter 128 Order of Eastern Star conducted graveside ceremonies.
Honorary casket bearers were Kenneth Bishop, Harvey Blair, Darren Brunson, Joshua Crider, Darren Grow, Mark Hughes, J.B. Marshall, Charles Smart and Wayne Williard.
Casket bearers were Gary Barnes, Phil Chenoweth, Warren Hahn, Norman Krug, Leroy Osborn and Eldon Whiteman.
A memorial has been established with Cookson Hills Christian Home for Children.
Viola Barnard
GRENOLA - Viola A. Barnard, 82, a resident of Grenola for nearly 60 years, died March 16, 2001, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Grenola United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Green Lawn Cemetery.
Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield until 9 this evening and until noon Tuesday.
Memorials have been established with the Green Lawn Cemetery
Landscaping Fund and Grenola Public Library. Contributions can be made through the funeral home or church.
Barnard was born Nov. 9, 1918, near Welch, Okla., to Eli G. and Dora Agnes (Brumbaugh) Wolfe. The family lived on farms in southeast Kansas, and she graduated from Oswego High School in 1937.
After receiving her teaching certification from Parsons Junior College, she taught school in Sherman District 21 and Hardpan District 142 south of Grenola.
On Aug. 11, 1945, she married Clyde Weldon "Bill" Barnard at Independence. They farmed west of Grenola before moving to a farm north of Grenola in 1949. In 1962 they moved into Grenola.
Barnard taught grades 3-6 in Grenola for more than 30 years. She graduated from Southwestern College in 1963 and retired from teaching in 1983.
Her husband died Aug. 23, 1998.
Barnard was a longtime member of the Grenola United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school for many years. She was formerly affiliated with the Rebekah Lodge and had been a 4-H leader. She served as Grenola's librarian for eight years.
Survivors include a son, Bill Barnard, Winfield; two daughters, Judy Shore, Grenola, and Janie Barnard, Rose Hill; and four grandchildren.
Avis Bennett
BURDEN - Avis A. Bennett, 95, of Burden, died March 15, 2001, in the Seiling, Okla., hospital while staying with her granddaughters.
Services were to be at 1 p.m. today in Mount Vernon Cemetery
east of Atlanta. Wheeler Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Bennett was born Jan. 13, 1906, in Atlanta, to Arthur and Alice Ketterman. She was a graduate of Atlanta High School.
On Oct. 28, 1925, she married Lawrence Bennett. He preceded her in death.
Bennett worked at a Burden grocery store in the 1940s and 1950s. She was a 50-year member of the Burden Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include a son, B.J. Bobbitt, Casper, Wyo., nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Ruby Conner
Services for Ruby M. Conner were held at 10:30 a.m. March 17, 2001, in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Curtis Fike officiated.
Vocal music included "One Day at a Time," recorded by Cristy Lane, and "Amazing Grace," recorded by Willie Nelson.
Casket bearers were Gene Bair, Marc and Scott Conner, Marvin Jones, Marvin McMinn and Leroy Osborn.
Burial was in Burden Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with the American Diabetes Association and Riverview Manor in Oxford.
Eugene Hogan
SEDAN - Franklin Eugene Hogan, 72, died March 18, 2001, at Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard with Pastor Dave Sanchez officiating. Private interment will be held later.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.
Hogan was born Jan. 25, 1929, near Sedan, to Ralph Jesse and Minnie Florence (Dalsing) Hogan. He attended rural schools in Elk and Chautauqua counties.
On Jan. 20, 1951, he married Margaret Alice Leewright at Longton, and they lived in Longton for many years.
Hogan was a heavy equipment operator for most of his life and a member of Operating Engineers Union 101.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Hogan, Sedan; two sons, Jesse and Rex Hogan, both of Fredonia; two brothers, Harold Hogan, Kentucky, and Kenneth Hogan, Winfield; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Ada Drollinger
BURDEN - Ada M. (Swan) Drollinger, 97, of Burden, died March 17, 2001, in Wichita.
Her service was to be at 11 a.m. today at Baker Funeral Home in Valley Center with burial in Old Mission Park in Wichita.
A memorial has been established with SCCS Home Health & Hospice of Derby.
Drollinger was born April 14, 1903, at Kewanee, Ill., to George T. and Cecilia H. (Bryner) Swan.
On Jan. 8, 1924, she married Joseph Edward Drollinger in Wichita. They lived in Burden, and she was a homemaker.
Survivors include five sons, Charles Drollinger, Maize, Donald and Clyde Drollinger, both of Burden, George Drollinger, Republic, Mo., and Edward Drollinger, Eureka; six daughters, Betty Powers, Wanda Taylor, Beverly Beemer and Mickey Berry, all of Wichita, Eileen Headgepath, Mulvane, and Nadine McKinney, Berryville, Ark.; 38 grandchildren, 84 great-grandchildren, 34 great-great-grandchildren and 22 stepgrandchildren.
Her husband and a son, Billy Joe Drollinger, preceded her in death.
Bernardo Hernandez
WELLINGTON - Bernardo Joe Hernandez, 61, lifelong resident of Wellington, died March 14, 2001, at his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with the Rev. Andrew Seiler officiating. Burial was in Sumner Memorial Gardens. Frank Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established with Hospice Inc.
Hernandez was born Aug. 27, 1939, in Wellington, to Rebecca and Ursolo Hernandez Sr. He was employed by the City of Wellington Street Department and Reid Conoco.
He was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Cindy Thompson and Malissa Smith, both of Wellington; three brothers, Alex, Robert and Ursolo Hernandez Jr., all of Wellington; five sisters, Julia Tapia, Winfield, Charlotte Torres, Dodge City, Esther Scobee, Wichita, Gloria Huck, Branch, Ark., and Mary Rios, Junction, Texas; and two granddaughters.
Joseph Brant
GEUDA SPRINGS - Joseph A. Brant, 84, of Geuda Springs, died March 19, 2001, at Cedar Vale Nursing Home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Jesse Kindred will officiate. Burial will be in Goodell Cemetery
near Drury.
A memorial has been established with the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Brant was born Dec. 28, 1916, in Dunlop, Okla., to Thelma Jane (Harding) and Clyde Henry Brant. He was raised and educated in Drury and attended South Haven High School.
On Sept. 9, 1939, he married Alice L. Wilson in Arkansas City. They made their home on a farm south of Geuda Springs for many years. His wife died in May 1994.
In addition to farming, Brant worked on boat motors, managed a dairy and was widely known for restoring vintage Ford Mustangs.
Survivors include three sons, Kenneth Brant and David Brant, both of Arkansas City, and Don Brant, Winfield; a daughter, Connie Teufel, Arkansas City, and seven grandchildren.
Grace Caster
DOUGLASS - Grace Caster, 90, homemaker, of Douglass, died March 19, 2001.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Hillside Funeral Home Chapel in Augusta.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.
A memorial has been established with Wheat State Manor, 601 S. Main, Whitewater, KS 67154.
Survivors include three sons, Eric Caster, Douglass, and Larry Caster and Jim Caster, both of Clark, S.D.; four daughters, Doris Belknap, Whitewater, Shirley Rush, Wichita, Charlotte Trent, Stigler, Okla., and Vickey Sue Wanless, San Antonio, Texas; 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
Alvin Mistler
ARKANSAS CITY - Alvin Lynn Mistler, 40, of Arkansas City, formerly of El Dorado, died March 20, 2001, at his residence.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Temple Baptist Church in El Dorado. Pastors Larry Schwartz and Carl Bush will officiate. Burial will be in Walnut Valley Cemetery
at El Dorado.
A memorial has been established with Northside Baptist Church of Arkansas City. Contributions may be made through Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home.
Mistler was born May 9, 1960, in El Dorado, to Mary (Alexander) and Keith Jackson. He attended Circle-Towanda schools and graduated in 1978.
Mistler had worked in construction in Ponca City, Wichita and El Dorado.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Jackson, Arkansas City; a brother, Harold Mistler, Benton; and his grandparents, A.R. and Dixie Zack, Camdenton, Mo.
