J.D. Logsdon

DOUGLASS - Joseph Dwayne "J.D." Logsdon, 81, of Douglass, died March 21, 2001, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita following an extended illness.

Services will be at 2 p.m Saturday at the First Christian Church in Douglass. Burial will be in Douglass Cemetery.

Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield until 9 tonight.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church or a charity of the donor's choice. They may be made through the funeral home.

Logsdon was born Nov. 6, 1919, in Pacasett, Okla., to Mabel (Moore) and Willis Logsdon. He attended high school in Winfield.

In 1950 he married Luella Holt in Douglass, and they lived in Douglass, Wichita and Peck.

Logsdon worked for Missouri Pacific Truck Lines in Wichita for 26 years. After retiring in 1978, he and his wife moved to Douglass where he became a full-time farmer.

He was a member of the First Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Luella Logsdon, Douglass; three sons, Richard Logsdon, Arkansas City, Donald Logsdon, Wichita, and and Delbert Logsdon, Douglass; a daughter, Connie Rader, Wichita; a sister, Ailene Benjamin, Halstead; a brother, Doyle Logsdon, San Antonio, Texas; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

A son, Larry Joe Logsdon, preceded him in death.

Barbara Settle

Barbara Jean Settle, 55, of Winfield, died March 22, 2001, at her home.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Miles Funeral Service. Cremation has taken place.

Settle was born March 20, 1946, in Wichita, to Ruth Christine (Jacobson) and LeRoy George Smith. Raised in Kansas and Minnesota, she received her general equivalency degree.

On Sept. 1, 1967, she married Larry Settle in Wellington. Employed by Austin Trucking of Augusta, they were a truck driving team and saw most of the United States.

Settle had lived in Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri, Nebraska, California and Minnesota.

She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include her husband, Larry Settle, and a son, Darwin Lee Settle, both of Winfield; two daughters, Deborah Christine Settle, Winfield, and Beverly Jean Danes, Arkansas City; her parents, LeRoy and Ruth Smith, Howard; three brothers, John Wesley Smith, Venetia, Calif., Charles Smith, Wichita, and Duane Smith, Casa Grande, Ariz.; and a granddaughter.

Cecil Wilson

ARKANSAS CITY - Cecil W. Wilson, 88, of Arkansas City, died March 22, 2001, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Central Christian Church. Cremation has taken place.

Wilson was born April 1, 1912, in Arkansas City, to Hanna Rena (Malett) and John Henry Wilson. He attended school in the Arkansas City area.

On Nov. 28, 1933, he married Helen Mae Ausmus at Central Christian Church.

A farmer in rural Arkansas City, Wilson also hauled gravel for county roads.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Wilson, Arkansas City; two sons, Robert Wilson, Arkansas City, and John Wilson, Newport News, Va.; a daughter, Larena Long, Oklahoma City; a sister, Maxine Russom, Arkansas City; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Jack Borror

ROCKWALL, Texas - Jackie Darrell "Jack" Borror, 64, of Rockwall, formerly of Arkansas City, died March 21, 2001, at Medical City in Dallas.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home in Arkansas City. Burial will be in Parker Cemetery.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5 and 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Borror was born June 4, 1936, in Mount Ida, to Jessie (Goode) and Warren K. "Bud" Borror. He was raised in Arkansas City and graduated from high school in 1954. In his senior year, he played on the state champion football team.

After graduation he served in the U.S. Navy and later in the reserves.

On Dec. 22, 1956, he married Anna L. Bishop in Arkansas City. They made their home in Arkansas City where he was employed at Rodeo Meat Packing Co. for 20 years. After Rodeo's closing, he worked at the Cowley County Appraiser's Office in Winfield. He retired after 14 years in 1998.

Borror was a member of the American Legion and the board of directors of the Rodeo Credit Union for many years, and he was an Explorer leader for Post 328 of First United Methodist Church.

Borror is survived by his wife, Anna Borror, a son, Darrell Denton Borror, and a daughter, Dr. Cheryl Potter, all of Rockwall; his mother, Jessie Borror, Arkansas City; a sister, Mary Lou Givens, and a brother, Kenneth Borror, both of Edmond, Okla.; and three grandchildren.

Caylea Inglett

Caylea Arica Inglett, infant daughter of Christina (Bungart) and Aric Inglett of Winfield, died March 22, 2001, at William Newton Hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Miles Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Caylea was born Dec. 21, 2000, in Winfield.

Survivors in addition to her parents are a brother, Christopher Inglett, and a sister, Chelsea Inglett, both of Winfield; her grandparents, Connie and Nick Hennigh, Overland Park, J.C. Bungart, Raytown, Mo., and Alice Simmons, Winfield; her great-grandparents, Arthur and Lucreta Myers and Jerome and Mildred Bungart, all of Raytown, Mo., and Newton and Doris Richardson, Winfield; and her great-great-grandmother, Jewel Green, Seltzer Springs, Mo.

Edna Lazelle

ARKANSAS CITY - Edna Marie Lazelle, 83, of Arkansas City, died March 24, 2001, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Cancer Research Fund. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Lazelle was born Sept. 10, 1917, in Dilworth, Okla., to Emma Edna (Buster) and Albert Jason Lloyd Thompson. She attended school in Arkansas City and Wichita.

On Feb. 1, 1935, she married James A. Lazelle in Newkirk. They made their home in Wichita until 1943 when they moved to Arkansas City. She worked for Arbuckle Hatcher for several years and later for C.R. Anthony for 10 years.

After retirement she and her husband moved to Grove, Okla., where they lived for 10 years. In 1979 they moved to Winfield. After her husband's death on Feb. 25, 1992, Lazelle moved back to Arkansas City.

Lazelle was a life member of Spencer Ralston Post 1254 Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and held several posts including three terms as president.

Survivors include a daughter, Kathleen LaVonne Bowman, and a son, James D. Lazelle, both of Arkansas City; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

An infant daughter, Sherrie Marie Lazelle, preceded her in death.

Viola Barnard

GRENOLA - Services for Viola Anne Barnard were held at 2 p.m. March 20, 2001, at the Grenola United Methodist Church. The Revs. Wallace Wartick and Don Foster officiated. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Music included "In the Garden" and "How Great Thou Art," sung by Judy Perrigo, and "The Old Rugged Cross," sung by the congregation. Wanda Mills was the organist.

Honorary casket bearers were Brian and Stacia Hand, Ryan Rader, Troy Richardson, Justin Shore and Sara Williamson.

Casket bearers were Lowell French, Dean Keplinger, Kenny Liebau, Donnie Miller, Robert L. Stauffer and Terry Wolfe.

Memorials have been established with the Greenlawn Cemetery Landscaping Fund and the Grenola Public Library.

J.D. Logsdon

Casket bearers were Garrett, Grant and Matt Doyle and Doug, Drew and Scott Logsdon.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Douglass First Christian Church or a charity of the donor's choice.

Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Mamie Terrill

OMAHA, Neb. - Mamie Marie Brooks Terrill, 96, of Omaha, formerly of Winfield, died March 26, 2001.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Tisdale Cemetery. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Terrill was born Dec. 12, 1904, on a farm southeast of Winfield, to Mr. and Mrs. T.J. Brooks. She graduated from Winfield High School and taught in a rural school before attending Southwestern College for two years.

After teaching in Attica and Burden for five years, she married Arthur N. Terrill in 1930. They lived on a farm east of Winfield.

After her husband died in 1936, Terrill returned to Southwestern College. The next year she obtained a teaching position in Coldwater. Each summer she returned to Winfield to attend Southwestern until graduating in 1941.

Terrill taught in Augusta for four years before moving to Manhattan in 1947 to teach school there. During the 1958-59 school year she taught at Hahn Air Force Base in Germany. She retired as a fifth-grade teacher in Manhattan in 1971.

After her retirement Terrill became active in the Christian Women's Club and in a reading club. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Delta Kappa Gamma and Manhattan Area Retired Teachers Association.

In 1991 she moved to Omaha to be near her daughter. In Omaha she was a member of the Evangelical Bible Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Ellen Terrill Thompson, Omaha; a sister, Pearle Slagle, Winfield; a brother, Earl Brooks, Nampa, Idaho; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
