Bulldog Godfrey
ARKANSAS CITY - Keith Allen "Bulldog" Godfrey, 25, of Arkansas City, died May 16, 2001, as the result of an automobile accident.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. The Rev. Buddy Cook will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the Ark City Booster Club. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Godfrey was born Dec. 8, 1975, in Arkansas City, to R. Maxine (McDowell) and Larry Godfrey. He graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1995 and later attended Cowley County Community College.
Godfrey worked for Sykes Inc. of Ponca City as a computer technician, for Presbyterian Manor and Medicalodge North Post Acute Care Center as a certified medical assistant and for K-Square Blow Molding. At the time of his death, he was a driver for Alex's Transportation, a sub-contractor for the Burlington-Santa Fe Railroad.
He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene and had volunteered with Family Life Services.
Survivors include a brother, Larry Godfrey, and a sister, Cathy Evans, both of Arkansas City.
Eva Hall
Eva Lucille Hall, 95, of Winfield, died May 17, 2001, at William Newton Hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery
near Arkansas City.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.
A memorial has been established with the William Newton Hospital Auxiliary. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Hall was born Aug. 18, 1905, in Atlanta, to Viola (Ward) and E.H. Smalley. During high school she played piano accompaniment for silent movies at the Atlanta theater. She graduated from Atlanta High School in 1925.
In 1928 she graduated from Pittsburg State Teachers College and then taught in the Atlanta grade school.
On Aug. 3, 1929, she married Russell R. Hall in Tisdale. They lived in Winfield where her husband ran Russ Auto Repair and she was a homemaker.
Hall was a member of the William Newton Hospital Auxiliary and actively served for over 30 years. Her volunteer hours totaled 10,500, second highest in the auxiliary's history.
Her husband died June 16, 1999, six weeks before their 70th wedding anniversary.
A resident of Winfield Rest Haven since August 2000, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church for 65 years.
Survivors include a son, Ray R. Hall, Phoenix, two grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Glenn McMenomy
ARKANSAS CITY - Glenn E. "Cowboy" McMenomy, 59, of Arkansas City, died May 16, 2001, at his residence.
Cremation has taken place. Private services will be held later. Hawks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
McMenomy was born April 29, 1942, in Ponca City, to Mary (Sebor) and Harold Eugene McMenomy. He attended school in the Ponca City area.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he worked as an auto mechanic.
Survivors include two sisters, Judy Miller and Linda Martin, both of Arkansas City.
Elden Shirley
GEUDA SPRINGS - Elden D. Shirley, 77, of Geuda Springs, died May 16, 2001, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Wichita.
Graveside services were at 11 a.m. May 18 in the Evant, Texas, cemetery. Hawks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Shirley attended school in the Woodward, Okla., area. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army.
On June 17, 1941, he married Ilene June Thorp in Ashland. She died Jan. 9, 1980.
Shirley was a self-employed bricklayer.
Survivors include his companion, Fay Love, Gainesville, Texas; three sons, Larry Shirley, Geuda Springs, Elden Shirley Jr., Kansas, and Leroy Shirley, Texas; four daughters, Barbara Joplin, Haslet, Texas, Ann Elwood, Geuda Springs, Cindy Cassidy, Magnolia, Texas, and Brenda McCarty, Justin, Texas; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Charles Dyer
Charles Lee Dyer, 39, of Winfield, formerly of Blackwell, Okla., died May 17, 2001, as the result of a motorcycle accident.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Christian Church in Blackwell. The Rev. Daryl Donovan will officiate. Burial will be in Blackwell Cemetery.
Honorary casket bearers will be Alton Hallmark, Larry Watts, Rick May, Francis Glenn, Steve Anderson, Brian Current and Duane Cunningham.
Casket bearers will be Barry Patton, Darrin Wright, David Corn, Otis Lynes, Larry Humble and Tracy Davis.
A memorial has been established with the First Christian Church Youth Department, 306 E. Coolidge, Blackwell, OK 74631.
Roberts & Sons Funeral Home Inc., 120 W. Padon, Blackwell, OK 74631, is in charge of arrangements.
Dyer was born Nov. 27, 1961, in Blackwell, Okla., to Joy Kathryn (Walker) Dyer and Frank Vassar Dyer II. He grew up in Blackwell and graduated from Blackwell High School in 1980.
Following high school, he worked in the oil fields for various companies for about five years. He then began working as an automotive machinist for Green Light and Napa Auto in Blackwell. He later moved to Winfield and began working for the Jarvis Co.
In June 1999 he married Marilyn Rowe in Eureka Springs, Ark., and they settled in Winfield.
In September 2000 he began working for Galaxy in Winfield.
He was a member of the First Christian Church of Blackwell.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Dyer, Winfield; his parents, Frank and Joy Dyer, Blackwell; and two brothers, Joel Dyer, Blackwell, and Frank V. Dyer III, Derby.
Fern McRoberts
Services for Fern E. McRoberts were held at 2 p.m. May 18 in the Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. Pastor Kenneth Haskell officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Marilyn Buffum was the organist. Special music included "Safe in the Arms of Jesus," performed by Haskell, and "How Great Thou Art" and "In the Bulb, There Is a Flower," performed by Buffum.
Casket bearers were Harry Choate, Larry Lawrence, Monte Lawrence and Jimmy McCraney.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.
John Merritt
John Arthur Merritt, 57, of Winfield, died May 17, 2001, at William Newton Hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be in Maple City Cemetery.

Merritt was born March 25, 1944, in Monett, Mo., to Malita Jane (Gregg) and Jess Francis Merritt. He grew up in California, Missouri and Ulysses.
On Dec. 25, 1962, he married Dolores Lynn Phillips in Springfield, Colo. They lived in many places throughout their marriage.
Merritt worked for Maurer Neuer Meat Packing Plant and for the City of Winfield at one time. In 1971 he graduated from Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, Colo., and entered the ministry. He ministered at many churches such as the Assembly of God, Church of God, Church of God of the Apostolic Faith and the Pentecostal Church of God in Kansas, Oklahoma and Colorado.
For the past 10 years Merritt and his wife have resided in Winfield. Locally he was pastor of the K Street Church of God of the Apostolic Faith and the Kansas Street Church of God in Arkansas City. He was an ordained minister with the Pentecostal Church of God at the time of his death.
Merritt attended the Church of God in Winfield. He dedicated his life totally to the ministry and preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Lynn Merritt, Winfield; his many foster children; three brothers, Jesse Lee Merritt, Marionville, Mo., Herman W. "Butch" Merritt, Grove, Okla., and Bill Merritt, Hollister, Mo.; and a sister, Shirley Brown, Aurora, Mo.
Eleanor Messner
CANEY -- Eleanor Jean Messner, 70, of Caney, died May 20, 2001, at Jane Phillips Memorial Hospital in Bartlesville.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Caney. Burial will be in Sunnyside Cemetery.
The family will greet friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the church or to Montgomery County 4-H. They may be sent in care of Potts Chapel in Independence or mailed to P.O. Box 801, Independence, KS 67301.
Messner was born July 31, 1930, in Winfield, to Pearl E. (White) and Joseph A. Orlowski. She graduated from Burden High School in 1948.
On Sept. 4, 1948, she married Claude E. Messner in Winfield. They moved from Arkansas City to Caney in 1950.
Messner was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and its Ladies Guild. She was also a member of Pleasant Hill Pals Home Demonstration Unit and the Montgomery County Extension Council. She was a past leader of the Pleasant Hill 4-H Club and past president of the Kansas Porkettes.
Survivors include her husband, Claude Messner, Caney; two daughters, Patty Anderson, Caney, and Gail Padden, Lawrence; two sons, Dwayne Messner and Darrel Messner, both of Caney; two sisters, Mary Ann Bailey, Shawnee, and Delores Mai, New Orleans; 11 grandsons and three great-grandsons.
