William Dotts

ELK CITY - William Tell Dotts Jr., 68, of Elk City, formerly of Wichita, died June 2, 2001, at his home.

Private burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Eureka.

A memorial has been established with Hospice Inc. of Wichita. Contributions may be left with Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.

Dotts was born June 24, 1932, at Lamar, Colo., to Jesse (Dixon) and William Tell Dotts. He graduated from Eureka High School in 1950.

He served in the United States Navy before becoming a member of the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Department.

Dotts became a captain with the Wichita Police Department and completed a master's degree in law enforcement studies. He attended Wichita State University and the FBI Academy at Quantico, Va.

After retiring from the Wichita Police Department in 1981, Dotts owned and operated Total Staffing Services in Wichita until his death.

He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.

Survivors include his companion, Debbie Bennett; a son, William E. Dotts, and a daughter, Brandy Dotts, both of Wichita; and his sisters, Peggy Holcomb, San Diego, and Lotus Greer, Topeka.

Ruth Harader

ARKANSAS CITY - Ruth M. Harader, 74, of Arkansas City, died June 2, 2001, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Riverview Cemetery. Jesse Kindred will officiate. Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established with the American Diabetes Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Harader was born Feb. 6, 1927, in Winfield to James G. and Grace May (Dowler) Gann. She was raised in Winfield and graduated from Winfield High School in 1945. She attended St John' s College.

On May 26, 1948, she married William Harader at the Hackney United Brethren Church.

Survivors include her husband, William Harader, and two sons, Robert L. and Gerald L. Harader, all of Arkansas City; a sister, Lulabel Wolf, South Haven; and three grandchildren.

Shirley Lanier

MULVANE - Shirley Ann Lanier, 51, of Mulvane, died June 2, 2001, in her home.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in Timber Creek Cemetery east of Atlanta and at 6:30 p.m. at the Derby Friends Church.

Visitation will be today at Smith Mortuary in Derby and from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Timber Creek Friends Church.

A memorial has been established with Camp Quaker Haven Nurses Station.

Lanier was born May 30, l950, in Winfield, to Raymond Leroy and Iva May (Weeks) Whiteman. She attended Atlanta schools and graduated from the Friends Haviland Academy. She then attended Cowley County Community College and earned her R.N. degree in 1972 from St. Joseph's School of Nursing

She was employed in Ponca City and at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita for 17 years.

On July 1, 1972, she married Merle Hawkins in Atlanta. They later divorced.

On Dec. 27, 1996, she married Glen L. Lanier in Derby.

She was a member of the Derby Friends Church.

Survivors include her husband, Glen Lanier, and a daughter, Tina Hawkins, both of Mulvane; her mother, Iva May Whiteman, Atlanta; her brothers, Lyle Whiteman, Gate, Okla., Daryl Whiteman, Atlanta, and Ralph Whiteman, Derby; and her sister, Cora Condon, Mulvane.

Mary Cowdrey

SMITHVILLE, Mo. - Mary Millis Cowdrey, 87, a resident of Smithville for 86 years, died May 30, 2001, at the home of her daughter in Windsor, Calif.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hixson-Klein Funeral Home in Smithville.

Donations in her memory may be made to The Sutter VNA-Hospice, 1110 N. Dutton Ave., Santa Rosa, CA 95401.

Cowdrey was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church of Smithville and was the first person to be baptized in the church at its present location,.

Her husband, Charles H. Cowdrey, died in 1968.

Survivors include a daughter, Millis Frisch, Windsor, Calif.; a stepson, Charles Cowdrey, Winfield; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Dale Lee

HOWARD - Dale William Lee, 89, longtime Howard area resident, died June 2, 2001, at Howard Twilight Manor.

Services were to be at 2 p.m. today at Zimmerman Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Buchanan officiating. Burial was in Twin Grove Cemetery at Severy.

Memorials have been established with the Renal Care Group of Emporia and Howard Twilight Manor. Contributions can be made through the funeral home.

Lee was born April 12, 1912, west of Severy, to Chris and Louise Ellen (Wright) Lee. He attended South Maple rural school and graduated from Severy High School in 1925.

On Sept. 20, 1938, he married Hazel Marie Brown at Eureka. They farmed north of Eureka until moving to a farm north of Howard in 1960. He was a cattleman and raised quarter horses. His wife died in 1978.

On March 27, 1988, he married Frances DeEtta (Burres) Beaumont at Eureka. They lived on the farm in Elk County until moving to Howard in 1996. In December 1999 they moved to Emporia but recently had returned to Howard.

Lee attended the Congregational Church in Severy as a young man. He was a past president of the Kansas Quarter Horse Association.

Survivors include his wife, DeEtta Lee, Howard; a son, C.W. "Woody" Lee, Newton; a daughter, Thana Rolph, Austin, Texas; two stepsons, Jim Smith, Eureka, and Lewis Beaumont, Ottawa; two stepdaughters, Carolyn Ratzlaff, Sonora, Calif., and Teresia Wussow, Haysville; a brother, Carl Lee, and a sister, Thelma Smith, both of Tucson, Ariz.; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Ruby Meeker

MAPLE CITY - Ruby M. Meeker, 67, of Maple City, died June 2, 2001, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center in Arkansas City.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Hawks Memorial Chapel. Friends may sign the register book until 5 p.m. today

A memorial has been established with Victory in the Valley. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Meeker was born June 2, 1934, in Arkansas City, to Laura Mae (Trenary) and Oscar Anderson Denson. She graduated from Arkansas City High School.

On Feb. 19, 1954, she married Charles Meeker in Newkirk. In 1962 they moved to Maple City.

A homemaker, she was a member of the Maple City Community Church.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Meeker, Maple City, and a sister, Mary Rollins, Arkansas City.

Nancy Mulcahy

Nancy Carol Mulcahy, 52, longtime resident of Winfield, died June 2, 2001, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center in Arkansas City.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in St. Mary's Cemetery in Winfield.

Memorials have been established with the American Cancer Society and the American Diabetes Association. Contributions may be made through Miles Funeral Service.

Mulcahy was born Sept. 13, 1948, in Winfield, to Mildred (Moore) and Martin Mulcahy. She graduated from Winfield High School in 1967.

Shortly after high school, she was diagnosed with cancer and underwent extensive surgery. Approximately a year later she attended training school and was employed by Winfield State Hospital & Training Center. She worked there for almost 20 years, then cared for her mother until her death in 1990.

Because of failing health, Mulcahy moved to Arkansas City to live at Alterra Sterling House.

She was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church in Winfield.

Survivors include a brother, Jerol Mulcahy, and a stepbrother, Jerry Halverstadt, both of Winfield.

Ronald Weber

WELLINGTON - Ronald James Weber, 49, lifelong resident of Wellington, died June 6, 2001, at his home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony Catholic Church. The Rev. Andrew J. Seiler will officiate. Burial will be in Sumner Memorial Gardens.

The Rosary and a vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Friday, also at the church.

Friends may call at Day Funeral Home until 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at the funeral home.

A memorial has been established with Hospice Inc., 313 S. Market, Wichita, KS 67202-9624. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Weber was born Sept. 2, 1951, in Wichita, to Gertrude (Stuhlsatz) and Robert Weber.

On May 26, 1973, he married Anna Juanita Leddy in Conway Springs.

Weber was the owner of Weber Construction Co. which he founded 28 years ago.

He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church where he served as a eucharistic minister. Other memberships included the Knights of Columbus and the Sons of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Anna Weber, Wellington; two sons, Ben Weber, Winfield, and David Weber, Wellington; three daughters, Jenny Roe, Wellington, Jeanette Smith, Tempe, Ariz., and Julie Weber, Overland Park; his mother, Gertrude Weber, Wellington; four brothers, Wayne Weber, Leawood, Richard Weber, Pittsburg, Dale Weber, Wellington, and Mark Weber, Wichita; two sisters, Norma DeVault, Clearwater, and Janet Marshall, Wichita; and six grandchildren.
