Paul Raber

CANTON - Paul Dale Raber, 93, of Canton, died June 5, 2001, at Shiloh Manor Nursing Home in Canton.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Canton Township Cemetery. The Rev. Ernest Clark will officiate, and the McPherson Masonic Lodge will conduct burial rites.

Friends may call at Olson's Mortuary Friday from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.

Raber was born Jan. 13, 1908, in Eureka, to Hattie (Longfellow) and Paul Bliss Raber.

In 1928 he married Margaret Huffman in El Dorado.

On Sept. 11, 1960, he married Sarah Jane Hart Evans in Miami, Okla. She died July 18, 1999.

A retired oil field pumper, Raber had lived in Canton since 1978.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge, Canton, and Order of Eastern Star, McPherson.

Survivors include a son, Merle G. Raber, Winfield; a daughter, Barbara A. Hubele, Lindsborg; a brother, Darrel J. Raber, Hermitage, Mo.; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Iva Quesenberry

Iva G. Quesenberry, 94, a longtime Winfield resident, died June 7, 2001, at Cumbernauld Village.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Highland Cemetery.

Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

A memorial has been established with Southwestern College. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Quesenberry was born Jan. 11, 1907, in Yoder, to Ollie (Coover) and Charles Haines. She graduated from Haven High School in 1925. She attended Emporia State Teachers College and graduated from Southwestern College in 1929 with a degree in home economics.

On July 9, 1936, she married Dillon C. Quesenberry. They made their first home in Wichita, then moved to Winfield where they ran a grocery store. During World War II, while her husband was away, Quesenberry continued to work at the store.

After her husband's death in 1956, Quesenberry worked for Trees Oil Co. as a bookkeeper until her retirement in 1987.

She moved to Cumbernauld Village in 1996.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she was active in a ladies' group; a 60-year member of the Order of Eastern Star and a member of Business and Professional Women.

Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Archambeau, Winfield; a sister, Marjorie Bryan, Urbana, Ill.; three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Matilda Landwehr

WICHITA - Matilda C. "Tillie" Landwehr, 89, a homemaker, of Wichita, died June 10, 2001.

A Rosary will be said tonight at 7 at St. Jude Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m., also at the church. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Hillside Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Catholic Church or a charity of the donor's choice.

Survivors include her husband, Henry J. "Ben" Landwehr, Wichita; a son, Roger Landwehr, Longview, Texas; four daughters, Debbie Casad, Winfield, LaVonne Jordan, Wichita, Norma Lee Vardeman, Longview, Texas, and Mary Lou Burford, Overland Park; a sister, Evelyn Baxter, San Bernardino, Calif.; 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Helen Sands

WICHITA - Helen T. Sands, 88, of Wichita, formerly of Winfield, died June 10, 2001, at Comfort Care Health Center.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the First United Methodist Church in Winfield.

Sands was born July 4, 1912, in Floral, to Margaret and Fred Lewis. She graduated from Winfield High School.

On Nov. 10, 1939, she married Forrest G. Sands in Winfield. He died Nov. 11, 1984.

For several years she worked at the Snyder Clinic.

Sands had been an active member of the First United Methodist Church, the Open Door Sunday School Class and United Methodist Women.

She moved to Wichita in 1995.

Survivors include a son, Allen Sands, Wichita; two sisters, her twin, Hazel David, and Florence Meier, both of Winfield; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Charles Dennis

WICHITA - Charles Dennis, 65, of Wichita, died June 9, 2001, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Joseph Campus in Wichita.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Smith Mortuary Chapel in Derby. Burial will be in Douglass Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the American Lung Association.

Dennis was born July 10, 1935, in Claremore, Okla., to Trixie May (Eddy) and James Orville Dennis.

He worked as an automobile salesman.

Survivors include his daughters, Shelly Baldwin, Austin, Texas, and Terri Perry and Sara Dennis, both of Wichita; two brothers, James Leroy Dennis, Douglass, and Kenneth Dennis, Hagerstown, Md.; a sister, Louise Anderson, Adair, Okla.; and five grandchildren.

Roy Burchfield

Roy E. Burchfield, 73, of Winfield, died June 11, 2001, at Winfield Rest Haven.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, north of Arkansas City.

Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from 5 to 9 tonight and from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday.

A memorial has been established with the Millington Street Baptist Church. Contributions may be made through the church or funeral home.

Burchfield was born Jan. 30, 1928, in Henryetta, Okla., to Vera M. (Ward) and Ted R. Burchfield. When he was nine months old, the family moved to Shamrock, Okla., where he was raised and educated. As a young man he helped his father in the oil fields. Later he drove a truck for several companies.

In November 1944 he married, and he and Violet lived in Texas. The couple divorced in 1962.

On Oct. 23, 1968, Burchfield married Marie E. Halbach in Newkirk, Okla., and they made their home in Arkansas City. He worked at Winfield State Hospital and Training Center. In 1982, due to a work injury, he became disabled and in 1990 retired. He and his wife moved to Walnut Towers, and she died in 1994.

On April 24, 1995, he married Alice M. (Boatright) Reed, and they continued to live at Walnut Towers.

Burchfield was a member of Millington Street Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Burchfield, Winfield; two daughters, Connie Nation, Dallas, and Gloria Jean Newell, Kennewick, Wash.; four stepdaughters, Lucille "Bunny" Nickel, Portland, Ore., Lois Cooperider, Pierce City, Mo., Kay Reynolds, Richmond, Va., and Donna Smith, Winfield; two stepsons, Loren Reed, Brazil, South America, and Sam Reed, Augusta; two brothers, Arlie Burchfield, Amarillo, Texas, and Robert Burchfield, Mannford, Okla.; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.

A son, Bill Burchfield, preceded him in death.

Lulavon Flock

HOWARD - Lulavon Belle "Lue" Flock, 95, of Howard, formerly of Severy, died June 9, 2001, at Howard Twilight Manor.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Zimmerman Funeral Home. Marty Taliaferro will officiate. Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery in Howard.

A memorial has been established with the Eureka Church of Christ. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Flock was born June 26, 1905, at Fiat, in Elk County, to Margaret (Wilson) and Marion Speer. She attended rural schools and grew up in the Elk County area.

On April 15, 1926, she married John Forrest Flock in Sedan. They lived northeast of Howard on a farm until 1944. They then moved to Winfield and in the spring of 1958 moved to Severy. Her husband died in 1970.

In 1988 she went to live with her daughter, Mary Margaret. In 1995 she suffered a stroke and moved to Twilight Manor.

Flock was a longtime member of the Church of Christ and had been a member of the Eureka Church of Christ for many years.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Margaret Hukle, Wichita, and Beverly Lue Fuqua, Peace Valley, Mo.; a son, Donald Flock, Rockport, Maine; two sisters, Aline Benest, Severy, and Mildred Lawman, Little Rock, Ark.; 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

Helen Sands

Services for Helen F. Sands were held at 10:30 a.m. June 13, 2001, in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. The Rev. Rick Thornton officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.

Diane Glasgow was the organist, and Brian Thompson was the soloist. Music included "The Old Rugged Cross," "Whispering Hope" and "Amazing Grace."

A memorial has been established with the First United Methodist Church.
