Peggy Atkins

Peggy L. Atkins, 72, of Winfield, died June 23, 2001, at Cumbernauld Village.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home until 8 tonight.

A memorial has been established with the First Christian Church.

Atkins was born April 14, 1929, in Winfield, to Mary Josephine (Froman) and Charles Foskett. She graduated from Winfield High School in 1947.

On Jan. 30, 1947, she married James Atkins in Wellington. A homemaker, she and her husband lived in Newton, Kansas City, Chicago and Topeka before moving to Winfield in 1985. Her husband died in November 1986.

Atkins was a member of the First Christian Church, Order of Eastern Star and White Shrine of Jerusalem.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Gibbons, Winfield, and Judi Atkins, Midlothian, Ill.; a brother, Charlie Foskett, McAlister, Okla.; two sisters, Rose Neal, Northridge, Calif., and Katie Brooks, Los Angeles; three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Sherwood Ferris

ARKANSAS CITY - Sherwood R. Ferris, 89, of Arkansas City, died June 25, 2001, at Presbyterian Manor.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

Friends may call at Hawks Memorial Chapel from 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Ferris was born Feb. 2, 1912, in Argonia. On May 8, 1937, he married Ella M. Carter in Arkansas City.

Ferris retired from Boeing Aircraft in 1974. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ella Ferris, and a son, Sherwood G. Ferris, both of Arkansas City; a daughter, Cheryl Davis, Peoria, Ariz.; a sister, Dorothy Essex, Loveland, Colo.; a brother, Clebourne Ferris, Inverness, Fla.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Ora Craven

OXFORD - Services for Ora Mae Craven were held at 10 a.m. June 23, 2001, in Oliver-Hawks Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Curtis Fike officiated. Burial was in Oxford Cemetery.

Elaine Clark was the organist. Vocalists were Francis, Jerry and Kent Devore and Mary Lee. Music included "On the Wings of a Dove" and "Precious Lord."

Casket bearers were Harold Spencer, David Ward, Phillip Smith, Wayne Carson, Carl Dennett, Michael Smith.

A memorial has been established with the First Baptist Church Youth Fund.

Ferol Hollins

ARKANSAS CITY - Ferol O. Hollins, 92, of Arkansas City, died June 26, 2001, at her home.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Friends may call at Hawks Memorial Chapel until 8 tonight.

A memorial has been established with Hospice Inc. Contributions can be sent to the funeral home.

Hollins was born Oct. 29, 1908, in Arkansas City, to Jennie (Hooker) and George Alexander Jackson.

On Nov. 30, 1925, she married Willie Hollins in Arkansas City. He died June 12, 1982.

A homemaker, Hollins was a longtime member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church.

Survivors include three sons, Richard Hollins, Arkansas City, Jerry Hollins, Cedar Vale, and George Hollins, Ponca City.; three daughters, Norma Jean Lott, Cuera, Texas, and Anita Coffee and Carol Childers, both of Wichita; two brothers, George Jackson, Arkansas City, and Bill Jackson, Stockton, Calif.; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Three sons, Gilbert, Donald and Gene Hollins, and two daughters, Frances and Forrestine Hollins, preceded her in death.

Nellie Wallace

CEDAR VALE - Nellie "Virginia" Wallace, 86, of Cedar Vale, died June 27, 2001, in Cedar Vale Community Hospital.

Burial will be at 9:45 a.m. Saturday in Cedar Vale Cemetery. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. at the Church of Christ.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Wheeler Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Memorials have been established with the Wallace Educational Memorial Fund, USD 285, P.O. Box 458, Cedar Vale, KS 67024, and Cedar Vale Memorial Library, 606 Cedar, Cedar Vale, KS 67024.

Wallace was born Jan. 15, 1915, in Cedar Vale, to Cora E. (Hess) and Neal Sullivan. She was raised in the Cedar Vale area and graduated from Cedar Vale High School in 1933.

She attended Kansas State Teachers College at Pittsburg for two years, then began teaching elementary school. In 1959 she received a bachelor's degree from Oklahoma State University and continued to teach.

On Nov. 5, 1936, she married Cleo Earl Wallace in Cedar Vale. They retired and moved to Cedar Vale in 1970. He died Dec. 8, 1985.

Wallace was a member of the Cedar Vale Church of Christ.

Survivors include a son, Leonard Wallace, Houston; two daughters, Kay Wallace, Birmingham, Ala., and JoAnn Holt, Omaha, Neb.; a brother, Neal Sullivan, Anchorage, Alaska; two sisters, Marjorie S. Davis, Cedar Vale, and Hilda Lowe, Derby; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Donald Goff

ARKANSAS CITY - Donald Wayne Goff, 75, of Arkansas City, died June 25, 2001, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Cremation has taken place.

A memorial has been established to help the family with burial expenses. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Goff was born March 11, 1926, in Hepler, to Mildred (Beggs) and Albert Goff. He was raised and educated in Hepler.

When he was 18, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and served in World War II. A career member of the Air Force, he retired in 1976.

He also served in law enforcement and retired as a biomedical technician at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.

On Oct. 12, 1996, he married Viola Wilson Pingry in Winfield. They made their home in Arkansas City.

Goff was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Federal Communications Commission and Cowley County Amateur Radio Club. He was a colonel in the Confederate Air Force.

Survivors include his wife, Viola Goff, Arkansas City; a son, David W. Goff, Westfield, N.C.; two daughters, Susan Goff, Winfield, and Brenda Hailings, Arkansas City; six brothers, Kenneth Goff, Arkansas City, Norman Goff, Albert Goff Jr., David Hill, Leland Hill and Bob Hill; 10 sisters, Beverly Goff, Barbara Goff, Dotty Shrimp, Nellie Goff, Edna Goff, Maudie Seeger, Dora Newby, Betty Jackson, Rosie Seeger and Joanne Wheeler; and two granddaughters.

A son, Leonard Goff, preceded him in death.

Peggy Atkins

Services for Peggy L. Atkins were held at 10:30 a.m. June 27, 2001, in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. The Rev. Shawn Sturm officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.

A taped recording of "Rest Ye High on that Mountain" by Vince Gill was played during an Order of Eastern Star ceremony.

Charles Foskett was an honorary casket bearer. Casket bearers were Blane and Charles Tanner, Sheldon Carter, Mike Gibbons, George McFarland, Mark Skinner and Larry Barnes.

A memorial has been established with First Christian Church.

Alice Maltbie

WICHITA - Alice A. Maltbie, 87, of Wichita, formerly of Winfield, died June 26, 2001, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Joseph Campus.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home until 8 tonight.

Maltbie moved from Winfield to Wichita in the 1940s. Her husband, Marvin E. Maltbie, died in February 1999.

She was a member of the Wichita Day Lily Club, Epworth United Methodist Church and Circle Club.

Survivors include two sons, Steve Maltbie, Wichita, and Dan Maltbie, Katy, Texas; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Alta Wolf

Alta Wolf, 102, of Winfield, died June 27, 2001, at Winfield Rest Haven.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday.

A memorial has been established with Hackney Community Baptist Church.

Wolf was born Jan. 24, 1899, at Maxburg, Iowa, to Lillie Maud (Bonham) and Albert West. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Oklahoma Territory and settled just east of Ponca City in an area known as The Osage. She attended subscription schools in that area and Ponca City High School.

After high school she attended normal school in Edmond, Okla. From 1920 to 1923 she taught school in Osage County.

On May 24, 1924, she married Martin R. Wolf in Ponca City. In 1929 they moved to Winfield where her husband was employed by Kansas Gasoline Co. After Sinclair Oil Co. purchased the company, they moved to Bear Oil, Wyo., in 1940. They were transferred to Houston in 1960 and lived there until his retirement. In 1964 they returned to Winfield. Her husband died in 1981.

A homemaker, Wolf was a member of Hackney Community Baptist Church, the Order of Eastern Star, Beauceant and Daughters of the American Revolution.

Survivors include nieces and nephews, Geraldine Smith, Oklahoma City, Shirley Hutchison, Edmond, Arlene Weathered, Napa Idaho, Reba Dee Currier, Denver, Betty Jane Blake, Page, Ariz., Mark Coyle, Midwest City, Okla., and Frank Hensley, Chicago.
