Stephen Frazier

Services for Stephen Keith Frazier were held at 10 a.m. Aug. 14, 2001, in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Revs. Steve Souther and Bill Soule officiated.

Burial was in Union-Graham Cemetery. American Legion Post 10 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3544 performed military honors.

Guy and Rebecca Stamps and Carrol Wray Campbell gave family remembrances. Don Andersen gave the eulogy.

Jackie Hauer was the organist, and Martin Rude sang "Oh, Danny Boy" and "The Lord's Prayer." The congregation sang "The Lord Is My Shepherd."

Honorary casket bearers were David and Don Andersen, Raymond Biddle, Carrol Wray Campbell, Lloyd Clarkson, Jim Conrod, Dee Croft, Harley Day, John Dicken, Barry Flinchbaugh, Lloyd Hittle, Jack McClendon, Julie Owens, John Rold, Guy Stamps and Robert F. White.

Casket bearers were Stephen Kendal Frazier, Warren Farley Frazier, John Eric Frazier, Graham Phillip Frazier and Jeremy Frazier.

The Stephen K. Frazier Memorial Basketball Scholarship has been established at Southwestern College.

Dorothy Duncan

Services for Dorothy Duncan were held at 2 p.m. Aug. 15, 2001, in the First Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. James McIntosh Jr. officiated. Burial was in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Kevin, Aaron, Ron and Mark Schmidt, Terry Triplett, Gary McCutcheon, Raymond Trobaugh and Don Harper.

Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Thomas Walker

CHANUTE -Thomas E. Walker, 65, of Chanute, died Aug. 14, 2001.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Gibson-Koch-Friskel Chapel. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Greenfield Cemetery at Grenola. The McConnell Air Force Base honor guard will provide military honors.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the David "Bumper" Cook Memorial Fund, Highland Park High School, Topeka, and may be sent to the funeral home.

Walker was born Feb. 28, 1936, in Altoona, to Deon (Hawkins) and Paul S. Walker.

In 1953 he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served until his retirement in 1973.

Survivors included two sons, Idris Walker, Ferron, Utah, and Paul Walker, Atlanta, Ga.; a daughter, Tina Walker, Bedford, Texas; his mother, Deon Newland, Yates Center; a brother, Donald Walker, Buffalo; and five grandchildren.

Rosa Johnson

PONCA CITY - Rosa M. Johnson, 97, of Winfield, died Aug. 14, 2001.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Trout Funeral Home Chapel in Ponca City. Burial will be in the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to Cumbernauld Village, 716 N. Tweed, Winfield, KS 67156.

Johnson was born Dec. 8, 1903, at Cushing, Okla., to Minnie M. (Collins) and Oliver Dodson.

On Dec. 5, 1944, she married Ivan V. Johnson in Buffalo, Okla. He died in 1977.

She was a former member of the First Baptist Church of Ponca City.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Wanda Schul, Winfield; a stepson, Ronald Johnson, Wichita; and a nephew, Dennis Dodson, Marietta, Ga.

Donald Dale

CEDAR VALE - Donald William Dale Sr., 82, longtime farmer/rancher of Cedar Vale, died Aug. 17, 2001, at Midwest City Regional Medical Center in Midwest City, Okla.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Wheeler Funeral Home. Burial will be in Cedar Vale Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home until 8 tonight.

A memorial has been established with the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association of South-Central Kansas.

Dale was born June 13, 1919, on a farm south of Cedar Vale, to Henri (Pack) and Otis Dale.

On March 27, 1940, he married Maxine Brashear in Cedar Vale.

Dale spent his entire life on the family homestead south of Cedar Vale except for the few weeks he was in Oklahoma.

Survivors include his wife, Maxine Dale, Cedar Vale; a son, Donald W. Dale Jr., Choctaw, Okla.; a daughter, Margaret Hudgins, Laverne, Okla.; a brother, Charles Dale, Cedar Vale; two sisters, Fannie Oliver and Clara Bolton, both of Sedan; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Floyd Riggs

MOLINE - Floyd William Riggs, 79, died Aug. 16, 2001, at his home south of Moline.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard. Burial will be in Casement Cemetery near Sedan.

Memorials have been established with the Chautauqua County 4-H Scholarship Fund and the Sedan Area Emergency Medical Service. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Riggs was born March 23, 1922, at Wellington, to Ida Olive (Baker) and Raymond R. Riggs. He graduated from high school near Geuda Springs.

During World War II, he served in the United States Army.

On May 5, 1946, he married Patricia Elaine Nichols in Howard, and they made their home in Chautauqua County. Riggs was a farmer and rancher throughout his life.

He was a member of the Coffeyville Veterans of Foreign Wars and Dexter Masonic Lodge and a longtime member of the Sedan Chamber of Commerce. He devoted many hours to being a 4-H leader and was a master hunter safety instructor.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Riggs, Moline; two sons, Dr. Glenn Riggs, Sedan, and Rex Riggs, Arkansas City; a daughter, Lynda Elaine Marshall, Cedar Vale; a brother, Lawrence Riggs, Parsons; three sisters, Bonnie Landes and JoAnn Bertrand, both of Wellington, and Doris Hackett, Lake Charles, La.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Larry Capron

OXFORD - Lawrence A. "Larry" Capron, 48, of Oxford, died Aug. 17, 2001, at his home.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Oxford Funeral Service. Cremation has been effected.

A memorial has been established with the American Diabetes Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Capron was born Aug. 12, 1953, in Winfield, to Dorothy (Pinks) and Lawrence E. Capron. He graduated from Oxford High School in 1971 and attended Cowley County Community College.

He has previously worked for Brad's Bicycle Shop in Winfield and Auburn Cord Parts Co. in Wellington. In recent years he restored antique toys.

On June 10, 1974, he married Kathy Starlin.

Survivors include his former wife, Kathy Capron, a son, Erik Capron, his parents, Lawrence and Dorothy Capron, and a brother, Marin Capron, all of Oxford.

Alpha Seimears-Thurman

SEVERY - Alpha May Seimears-Thurman, 92, formerly of Severy, died Aug. 19, 2001, at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Severy Baptist Church. The Rev. Tony Pameticky, Allen Seimears and George Seimears will officiate. Burial will be in Grace Lawn Cemetery in Howard.

A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.

Seimears-Thurman was born Dec. 13, 1908, in Rudy, Ark., to Gertrude Emily (Morrison) and James VanZandt. When she was a child, the family moved to Kansas where she attended school in Beaumont.

On Feb. 1, 1932, she married George Walter Wesley "Babe" Seimears in Eureka. They made their home in the Fiat community southeast of Severy, and she was a homemaker. Her husband died Sept. 26, 1964.

On Oct. 15, 1972, she married Asa Bryant "Bill" Thurman. They made their home in Elk Falls before moving to Aline, Okla., where they remained for 20 years. Thurman died March 28, 1983.

Seimears-Thurman was a former member of the Order of Eastern Star and a member of the Christian Church of Aline, Okla.

Survivors include her sons, George Seimears, Lone Jack, Mo., Allen Seimears, LaCygne, Leon Seimears, Howard, Charles Seimears, Derby, and Steven Seimears, Sedan; her daughters, Maisie Rodenbaughn, Blue Springs, Mo., Ella Huffman, Denver, Mo., Frances Barrier and Gertrude Jessogne, both of El Dorado, June Lakin, Kaw City, Okla., and Cora Sue Thornton, Kincaid; her stepsons, Bob Thurman, Garfield, Ark., and John Thurman, Rock Hills, S.C.; her stepdaughters, Karen Gray, Garfield, Ark., and Kay Howell, Howard; a sister, Marie Colyer, Amarillo, Texas; 30 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, 37 great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild.

B.J. Bobbitt

EVANSVILLE, Wyo. - Bobby Jack "B.J." Bobbitt, 70, of Evansville, died Aug. 16, 2001, at Wyoming Medical Center of lung and bone cancer.

Services were at 11 a.m. Aug. 20 at Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Casper, Wyo. The Rev. Bill Moore officiated.

Memorial contributions may be made to Central Wyoming Hospice Program, 319 S. Wilson, Casper, or the American Cancer Society, P.O., Box 1207, Casper.

Bobbitt was born June 1, 1931, in Atlanta, to Gladys Lillian (Ketterman) and Bun Oren Bobbitt. He was raised by his guardian parents, Avis and Lawrence Bennett.

He served in the U.S. Air Force in the Korean War from 1951 to 1953.

Bobbitt lived in many western states where he worked in the oil fields as a drill stem tester. For the last 13 years he had worked for Black Hills Trucking.

In July 1950 he married Katherine Nida in Wichita. She died in 1990.

On March 4, 1995, he married Starlene K. Orchard-Gibson in Elko, Nev.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Burden.

A son, Douglas Bobbitt, died in June 2001.

Survivors include his wife, Starlene Bobbitt, Evansville, Wyo.; three daughters, Cindy Rogers, Seiling, Okla., Shelley Fisher, Havre, Mont., and Licia VanMiddlesworth, Chester, Okla.; a son, Mitch Bobbitt, Woodward, Okla.; two stepsons, R.J. Gibson and Brandon Gibson, both of Evansville, Wyo.; a brother, R.L. "Dick" Bobbitt, Markham, Texas; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
