Margie George
OTTAWA - Margie Ruth George, 99, of Ottawa, former Cowley County treasurer and longtime resident of Winfield, died Sept. 16, 2001, at Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Highland Cemetery
at Winfield. The Rev. Cliff Burke will officiate.
Friends may call at Lamb-Roberts-Heise Funeral Home in Ottawa from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Ottawa and sent in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 14, Ottawa, KS 66067.
George was born Dec. 5, 1901, on a farm in Tisdale Township in Cowley County, to Georgia Ann (Bryant) and Charles Lester Arnold. She attended Winfield schools and graduated from Winfield High School in 1923. She later attended Dague Business College in Wichita.
George was employed by the City of Winfield in the utilities department for 25 years, then worked in the Cowley County clerk's office for six years. She was elected Cowley County treasurer and served eight years until her retirement in 1970. She moved to Ottawa in 1985.
On June 22, 1946, she married Raymond I. George in Emporia. He died Dec. 23, 1967.
She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Ottawa.
Survivors include four nieces, Wanda Ballinger, Ottawa, Janet Kay Fowler, Downers Grove, Ill., Margie Ann McKenna, Palos Park, Ill., and Eva Jo Hoffman, Sun City, Calif.; and two nephews, Larry H. Arnold, Mankato, Minn., and Perry Charles Arnold Jr., Buena Vista, Colo.
Troy McCullough
GAINESVILLE, Mo. - The Rev. Troy Lee McCullough, 61, of Gainesville, died Sept. 13, 2001, at Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Mo.
Services were at 10 a.m. Sept. 17 in Lilly Ridge General Baptist Church. The Revs. Dale Roberts and Roy Simmons officiated. Burial was in Clear Springs Cemetery. Clinkingbeard Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
McCullough was born Feb. 7, 1940, in Isabella, Mo., to Cora Lee (Robinson) and Selby Ray McCullough.
On Nov. 8, 1975, he married Dorothy Davis in Wichita.
He was a member of Clear Springs, Mo., General Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons, Allen McCullough, Americus, Larry McCullough, Wilmington, and Anthony McCullough, Winfield; two daughters, Linda Laude, Salina, and Audrey Feaster, Winfield; five stepsons, Michael Whitworth, Madison, Mo., Don Whitworth, Tampa, Fla., John Whitworth and George Whitworth, both of Wichita, and David Whitworth, Mesa, Ariz.; a stepdaughter, Rebecca Pritchett, Haysville, Ill.; a sister, Fern Coldoron, Gainesville, Mo.; 26 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Gail Rush
ARKANSAS CITY - Gail Rene Rush, 37, of Arkansas City, died Sept. 16, 2001, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

Memorials have been established with the First United Methodist Church and the Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa Research Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Rush was born Oct. 24, 1963, in Arkansas City, to Sandra (Gammon) and Ralph Rush. She attended Arkansas City schools and received her General Equivalency Degree in 1985. She graduated from Cowley County Community College in 1993.
Born with a rare skin disease, dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa, she lived with her parents all her life.
While attending Cowley, she was active in TNT and a member of the group that began the Senior Senior Prom. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church and DEBRA.
Survivors include her parents, Ralph and Sandra Rush, Arkansas City, and her grandmothers, Margaret Gammon, Arkansas City, and Olive Rush, Winfield.
Shirley Nickel
Services for Shirley J. (Cameron) Nickel were held at 11 a.m. Sept. 17, 2001, in Highland Cemetery. The Rev. Steve Souther officiated. Read Elwell performed "Amazing Grace" and "Going Home" on the bagpipe.

Joseph Hill
GRENOLA - Joseph Hardy Hill, 71, longtime resident of Grenola, died Sept. 16, 2001, at his home.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Grenola Community Building. The Rev. Gary Parsons will officiate. Private burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with Hospice Inc. and the Grenola Public Library. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.
Hill was born Oct. 15, 1929, at Grenola, to Mae Evalina (Hopper) and Bert Lee Hill. After graduating from Grenola High School in 1947, he moved to Wichita where he worked as a carpenter.
In 1948 Hill enlisted in the United States Army Reserves and served his country until 1956.
On Oct. 13, 1955, he married Carolyn Faye Mattocks in Hutchinson. He and his wife lived in Hutchinson until moving to Wichita in 1957. They moved to Grenola in 1965.
Hill worked as a carpenter most of his life and was also a farmer for many years.
A daughter, Sharon Jo Hill, died in infancy.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Hill, Grenola; a son, Joe Hill, Topeka; two daughters, Karen Donnelly, Winfield, and Pam Dunbar, Camano Island, Wash.; a sister, Cora Belle Lebbert, Topeka; and six grandchildren.
Lester Hope
ARKANSAS CITY - Services for Lester Eugene Hope were held at 2 p.m. Sept. 15, 2001, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. The Rev. Kathy Gann and Joe and Mary Muniz officiated.
Music included "Amazing Grace," recorded by Ray Price, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Blessed Are They Who Trust in the Lord."
A memorial has been established with Hospice Care of Kansas.
Hawks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Cleo Adkins
ELGIN - Cleo Lucille Adkins, 77, homemaker, of the Elgin/Sedan community, died Sept. 18, 2001, at her residence.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Elgin United Methodist Church. The Rev. Deloris Click will officiate. Burial will be in a Barnsdall, Okla., cemetery.
Friends may call at Arnold Moore-Barnsdall Funeral Home.
Adkins was born March 28, 1924, in Chino, Calif., to Viola Elizabeth (Morrell) and Estes Giles Aldridge. The family moved first to Leon, then to the Atlantic Field community west of Pawhuska, Okla. She graduated from Wynona (Okla.) High School in 1943.
On June 5, 1943, she married Herbert Loyd Adkins Sr. in Fresno, Calif. After her husband was discharged from the Army Air Corps in 1945, they moved to Pawhuska. They later moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, and then to Elgin in 1956. Her husband died Aug. 4, 1990.
Adkins was a member of the Elgin United Methodist Church of which she was formerly a song leader and Sunday school teacher. She was a charter member of United Methodist Women and a member of the Elgin Busy Bees. She was active at the Elgin Senior Center and wrote the Elgin news for the Sedan Times Star.
A son, Herbert Loyd Adkins Jr., preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Darlene Adkins, Ulysses, and a son, Don Adkins, Elgin.
John Brewer
EVERETT, Wash. - John S. Brewer, 82, of Everett, died Sept. 14, 2001,
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Evergreen Cemetery
at Everett. Evergreen Funeral Home and Cemetery

Brewer was born Oct. 1, 1918, in Rock, to Bessie P. (Kimsey) and Joseph C. Brewer.
He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
For over 40 years, he worked for Boeing in Wichita and Washington.
Brewer was a member of the Museum of Flight and assisted in restoring the Boeing 247D at Paine Field. He had resided in Snohomish County, Washington, since 1968.
His wife, Cora, preceded him in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Rhonda Thomas, a granddaughter and a great-grandson.
