Raymond Dorsey

WICHITA - Raymond Bennett Dorsey, 67, of Wichita, died Oct. 27, 2001, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Wichita.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Greenlawn Cemetery in Grenola. Pastor Wallace Wartick will officiate.

A memorial has been established with Hospice Inc. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.

Dorsey was born Jan. 16, 1934, in Howard, to Adelia Myrtle (Johnson) and James Bennett Dorsey.

When he was 15, he went to work for Insul-Seal Insulation. In 1952 he entered the U. S. Army where he earned his General Equivalency Degree. He was stationed in Germany from June 12, 1956, to April 9, 1958. When he returned home, he went back to Insul-Seal. In 1963 he went to work for Travis Insulation where he remained employed until his retirement. He also repaired televisions.

Survivors include a brother, Ray Dorsey, Derby, and a sister, Cuba Stanhope, Benton.

Hazel Beyer

EMPORIA - Hazel Fern Beyer, 98, of Emporia died Oct. 28, 2001, at Holiday Resort Care Center in Emporia.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Emporia. Pastor Gary Harms will officiate.

A memorial has been established with the Lyon County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.

Beyer was born March 20, 1903, in Ware, Neb., to Mary (Yost) and William Arthur "W.A." Gladfelter.

She married Arthur Regnier in 1925 in Emporia. He died in 1956.

In 1959 she married Ray Beyer in Arkansas City. He died on Nov. 1, 1989.

Survivors include two daughters, Gladys Elaine Sommers, Topeka, and Ruth Rhodes, Emporia; eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Gordon Buffalow

HOWARD - Gordon R. Buffalow, 52, lifelong resident of rural Howard, died Oct. 27, 2001, in rural Elk County.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Howard United Methodist Church. The Rev. Kibum Kim and Lloyd G. Zimmerman will officiate. Burial will be in Piedmont Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with Howard Twilight Manor. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home.

Buffalow was born June 27, 1949, in Eureka, to Irene (Green) and George R. Buffalow. He attended eight years of rural school at Upper Paw Paw and graduated from Severy Rural High School in 1967. He also graduated from Butler County Community College in El Dorado.

A farmer and rancher, Buffalow was also employed at Boeing in Wichita for the past 14 years.

In June 1975 he married Karen O'dell. The marriage ended in 1980.

On Feb. 4, 1995, he married Susie (Lukens) Shaver, and they made their home on a ranch northwest of Howard.

Survivors include his wife, Susie Buffalow, and a son, Garret Buffalow, both of rural Howard; three daughters, Kari Blackwell, Wichita, Angie Shaver, Augusta, and Kim Buffalow, rural Howard; his mother, Irene Buffalow, Howard; three sisters, Myrna Winn, Midland, Texas, Mary Harrod, Howard, and Sharon Cowden, Leawood; and two grandchildren.

Gary Hizar

Services for Gary Lee Hizar were held at 10 a.m. Oct. 29 in Highland Cemetery. The Rev. Dick Robbins officiated.

Casket bearers were Phillip Boucher, Billy Dusenbery, Richard Renollet, Daniel Shepherd, Scott Ward and William Young.

Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Billie Pritchard

LONGTON - Willie Mae "Billie" Pritchard, 63, of Longton, died Oct. 26, 2001, at her home.

Services were 2 p.m. Oct. 30 at Simpson Cemetery near Elk City.

A memorial has been established with the Christian Community Church of Longton. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.

Pritchard was born July 2, 1938, in Anniston, Ala., to Lucille (Stephens) and Myrtice Daugherty. She attended Blue Mountain School and grew to womanhood in Anniston.

She lived in Columbus, Ga., for a brief time before moving to Phoenix City, Ala., in 1958. She later moved to Valdosta, Ga., where she married Marion Charles Pritchard on May 9, 1980. A homemaker, she moved to Elk City in 1988 and had lived in Longton since 1996.

She attended the Christian Community Church.

Survivors include her husband, Marion Pritchard, Valdosta; three daughters, Shannon Pritchard and Betty Petty, both of Longton, and Janie Morgan, Panama City, Fla.; two brothers, Joe Daugherty, Elk City, and James Daugherty, Phoenix City; two sisters, Sander Hampton, Smith, Ala., and Mildred Daugherty, Crawford, Ala.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

June Redford

LYONS - June L. Redford, 77, of Lyons, died Oct. 27, 2001, at her home.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday in the First Christian Church in Lyons. The Rev. Tom Eastman will officiate. Burial will be 3 p.m. Friday in Cambridge Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Sillin Funeral Home in Lyons from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

A memorial has been established with the Redford Scholarship Fund at Lyons High School.

Redford was born June 2, 1924, in Cambridge, to Hattie (Barger) and Charles Hendrickson.

On Feb. 6, 1947, she married Jeff Redford in Wichita. He died Aug. 10, 1990.

A homemaker, Redford had lived in Lyons since 1948. She was a member of the First Christian Church and the Rice County Food Bank board and a thrift shop volunteer.

A son, Larry Joe Redford, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Susan Vogler, Chesapeake, Va.; a brother, Lyle Hendrickson, El Paso, Texas; a sister, Dorothy McConnell, Wichita; and two grandchildren.

Elizabeth Wilson

MOLINE - Adeline Elizabeth Wilson, 89, lifelong resident of the Moline area, died Oct. 28, 2001, at Elk Manor Nursing Home in Moline.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Moline United Methodist Church. The Rev. Gary Parsons will officiate. Burial will be in Moline Cemetery.

Memorials have been established with the Moline United Methodist Church and Hospice Inc. of Wichita. Contributions may be left at Zimmerman Funeral Home.

Wilson was born Sept. 15, 1912, on the family farm near Moline, to Margaret "Maggie" (Belshee) and Isaac Madison Wilson. Her mother died when Wilson was 13, and she cared for her father until his death.

She attended Star School near Moline and graduated from Moline High School. After graduation, she worked as a Linotype operator at The Moline Advance newspaper. She later worked as a Linotype operator at The Sedan Times-Star until returning to work at the Moline paper. She made her home on the farm where she was born until entering the nursing home in 1998.

She was a former member of the Rebekah Lodge of Moline and a longtime member of the Moline United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.

Survivors include several cousins.

Margaret Fridley

ARKANSAS CITY - Margaret "Peggy" Fridley, 82, of Arkansas City, died Oct. 29, 2001, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hawks Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Parker Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

A memorial has been established with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the USO and may be sent in care of the funeral home.

Fridley was born Oct. 1, 1919, in rural Davis County, Iowa, to Alice (Jones) and Lester August. She was raised and educated in the Davis County area.

On May 30, 1938, she married John "Jack" Fridley in Ottumwa, Iowa. They moved to Arkansas City in 1974.

Fridley worked as a waitress at Margie's Steam Burger and as a clerk at Love's.

Survivors include her husband, Jack Fridley, Arkansas City; two sons, Robert Fridley, Gainesville, Fla., and Russell Fridley, Callaway, Neb.; a daughter, Nina Smith, Parker, Colo.; two brothers, Donald August, Westland, Mich., and Stanley August, Jackson, Mich.; and one grandson.

George Askins

George "Walter" Askins, 93, of 515 E. Third, Winfield, died Oct. 30, 2001, at his home.

Cremation has taken place. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Miles Funeral Service.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until service time Friday.

A memorial has been established with Hospice Inc. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Askins was born April 2, 1908, in rural Cowley County, to Ella (Miller) and Edward Askins. He was raised and educated in Cowley County.

On Sept. 29, 1937, he married Inez Elizabeth Tompkins in Hackney. They made their home north of Winfield and recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary.

Employed in construction as a young man, Askins helped build the bridge on 14th in west Winfield and the Cowley County Courthouse. He was later employed in farming and custom combining as well as hauling gravel for many area townships.

For a number of years he was employed with the Park Department of the city of Winfield. He retired in 1977. Following retirement, he and his wife wintered in Texas for 22 years.

He was a member of the Millington Street Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Inez Askins, Winfield; two sons, Charles Allen Askins, Wichita, and Ronald Kay Askins, Winfield; three daughters, Barbara Ann Tolbert, Carol Elaine Bolack Montoya and Janet Nadine Shorter, all of Winfield; a brother, Carl Askins, Winfield; two sisters, Gladys Morgan, Junction City, and Hazel Spengler, Winfield; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
