Leland Heisler
HOWARD - Leland Sylvester Heisler, 83, of Howard, died Dec. 1, 2001, at Mercy Hospital in Independence.
Services were at 11 a.m. today in Grace Lawn Cemetery. Pastor Robin Haines officiated.
Memorials have been established with Howard Twilight Manor and the Howard Senior Center. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home.
Heisler was born Nov. 8, 1918, on a farm north of Howard, to Mamie (Bowser) and James Andrew Heisler. He attended Severy schools and graduated from Severy High School in 1936.
On Jan. 1, 1942, he married Winifred Jane Weyrauch in Moline. They made their home on various farms in the Howard area.
Heisler farmed and drove a livestock truck for more than 25 years.
Survivors include his wife, Winifred Heisler, Howard; three daughters, Pat Preston, Howard, and Sharon Bowen and Mamie Hughes, both of Independence; a son, Jim Heisler, Vassar; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Frank Salisbury
RUDY, Ark. - Frank Andrew Salisbury, 60, of Rudy, formerly of Howard, died Nov. 30, 2001, in Rudy.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Dec. 8 in Grace Lawn Cemetery, Howard. The Rev. Marty Dewitt will officiate. Carter-Rader American Legion Post 149 will provide military honors.
A memorial has been established with the American Lung Association. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home.
Salisbury was born March 16, 1941, in Eureka, to Alene "Lucy" (Mead) and Frank Andrew Salisbury. He attended rural school in the Howard area.
In 1958 he joined the United States Army and served in the 101st Airborne at Fort Campbell, Ky. He served eight years in the Army and was also a military instructor at Bryan Military Academy, Bryan, Texas.
On May 3, 1960, he married Linda L. Wilson in Atlanta. The marriage later ended.
On Dec. 5, 1992, he married Jean White.
Salisbury lived in Winfield, Moundridge and Towanda before moving to Oklahoma and later to Arkansas. He was employed as a superintendent for Sherwood Construction Co. in Kansas for more than 30 years. At the time of his death he was employed by Keck Construction Co. in Arkansas.
An infant daughter, Tenia Sue, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Salisbury, Rudy, Ark.; a son, Frank Salisbury Jr., Howard; two daughters, Julie Kirkbride and Tami Schmidt, both of Winfield; a brother, Dale Salisbury, Hutchinson; eight grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren.
Wilma Birdzell
Wilma Louise Birdzell, 69, of Winfield, died Dec. 2, 2001, at her home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Memorial Lawn Cemetery
near Arkansas City. Jesse Kindred will officiate.
The family will greet friends at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday.
A memorial has been established with Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be made through the funeral home. -
Birdzell was born Jan. 16, 1932, in Grainola, Okla., to Ola Edith (Helms) and Ambers Glenn. She was raised and educated in Maple City and Silverdale and graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1950.
On March 26, 1950, she married Louis Allen in Winfield. He died in 1968.
In 1972 she married Lloyd Birdzell in Cherokee, Okla.
A homemaker, Birdzell also worked as a waitress for the Rodeo Cafeteria, Shamrock Cafe' and A.C. Coffee Shop. She later purchased the A.C. Coffee Shop and operated it for over 14 years. After she closed the cafe' in 1979, she worked for Gilliland Publishing Co. for five years before retiring.
Survivors include her husband, Lloyd Birdzell, Winfield; two sons, Tim Allen, Winfield, and Ricky Don Allen, Summersville, S.C.; a daughter, Duwayna Bank, Arkansas City; a brother, Donald Glenn, Arkansas City; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Bud Brown
WICHITA - Ronald E. "Bud" Brown, 64, of Wichita, died Nov. 30, 2001, at his residence.
Services will be at 10 a.m Wednesday at Westview Baptist Church.
Friends may call at Resthaven Mortuary from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
A memorial has been established with the Westview Baptist Church Building Fund, 1325 S. Meridian, Wichita, KS 67213.
Brown was born Feb. 6, 1937, in Wichita, to Ella May (Jester) and Everett Brown. He was a retired water and waste water treatment worker. At the time of his death, he was a farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Rebecca Brown, Wichita; a son, Mark Brown, Hillsboro; three sisters, Mildred Ruth Smith, Nellie Bushnell and Laura Coss, all of Andover; and two grandchildren.
A son, Lincoln Christopher Brown, preceded him in death.
Ruth Ward
Services for Ruth Ann Ward were held at 2 p.m. Dec. 3, 2001, in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Nancy Blaine officiated. Cremation took place after the services.
Music included recordings of "Angels Among Us," by Alabama, and "He Touched Me," by the Blackwood Brothers Quartet.
A memorial has been established with SCCS Home Health & Hospice PA of Derby.
Leonard Brant
Leonard C. Brant, 83, of 1208 Whittier, Winfield, died Dec. 3, 2001, at William Newton Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial with military honors will be in Highland Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the Kansas Veterans Home at Winfield.
Brant was born April 8, 1918, in Winfield, to Minnie (Horton) and Charles C. Brant. He was raised in Winfield and graduated from Winfield High School in 1938.
On Oct. 9, 1939, he joined the United States Army and served as an aerial engineer-gunner in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during World War II. He was honorably discharged May 30, 1945.
Brant married Katy Lu Clodfelter. They later divorced.
In 1947 Brant began employment with the Civil Service Department at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita. A purchasing agent in the used equipment department, Brant retired in 1975. Following his retirement, he served as a volunteer reserve officer with the Sedgwick County Sheriff's Department until 1979.
On Dec. 13, 1980, he married Marjorie J. Thomson in Winfield where they made their home.
Brant was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Winfield Elks Lodge, Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion in Winfield and the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Derby.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Brant, Winfield; a son, Kenneth Brant, Wichita; two daughters, Pat Patrick, Kiowa, and Chris Green, Kearns, Utah; a stepson, Tom Thomson, Winfield; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
Harriet Gibbon
SEVERY - Harriet Melissa Gibbon, 94, longtime resident of Severy, died Dec. 3, 2001, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Severy United Methodist Church. The Rev. Kibum Kim will officiate. Burial will be in South Lawn Cemetery.

Gibbon was born Feb. 28, 1907, in Howard, to Cora Jane (Fuller) and Harley Ira French. She attended school in El Dorado and graduated from El Dorado High School in 1925. She graduated from Southwestern College in 1929 and began her teaching career in Valley Center.
On Dec. 21, 1930, she married Harold Nuckols Gibbon in El Dorado. They made their home in Howard where she taught home economics and English before moving to Severy in 1938. In 1952 she began teaching at Severy Grade School where she taught for many years.
Gibbon was a member of the Retired Teachers of Elk and Greenwood Counties, the Severy Cosmos Club and Columbia Chapter 142 Order of Eastern Star in Howard. She was also a longtime member of the Severy United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.
Her husband died Sept. 25, 1987, and her son, Harold French Gibbon, died July 19, 1999.
Survivors include three daughters, Marcia Jane Bartlett, Renton, Wash., Sarah Joan Fritze, Newcastle, Wash., and Harriet Sue McCulley, Wichita; 16 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Robyn Titus
DENNIS - Robyn Titus, 36, of Dennis, formerly of Winfield, died Dec. 2, 2001, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons. The Rev. Lewis Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Harmony Grove Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 tonight.
Memorial contributions are suggested to a fund to help defray expenses and may be left at the funeral home.
Titus was born Oct. 9, 1965, in Parsons to Ellen L. (Atherton) and Dale L. Titus. She graduated from Labette County High School at Altamont in 1984 and attended Labette Community College.
She lived in Dennis most of her life but lived in Winfield for a year and was employed as a paraprofessional at Winfield High School. She was employed by the Southeast Kansas Cooperative as a special education paraprofessional at the time of her death.
Titus was a member of the Dennis United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women.
The father of her children, Anthony "Tony" Robb Sr., preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Anthony "T.J." Robb, two daughters, Alesha Robb and Kayla Robb, her parents, Dale and Ellen Titus, and a sister, Kimberly Caulkins, all of Dennis; a brother, Kenneth Titus, San Diego; two half-sisters, Valorie Maxey, Kentucky, and Jackie Shaar, Tulsa; her grandmothers, Mary Atherton, Parsons, and Ira Lee Burris, Catoosa, Okla.; and a stepgrandmother, Neoma Atherton, Appleton City, Mo.
