Jarrett Metz

BOONEVILLE, Ark. - Jarrett Burtis Metz, 73, of Booneville, formerly of Winfield, died Nov. 18, 2001, in Fort Smith, Ark.

Services were held Nov. 21 in Roberts Memorial Chapel in Booneville. Burial was in Fort Smith National Cemetery.

Metz was born May 13, 1928, in Perryton, Texas. A veteran of World War II, he was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

While living in Winfield, he worked in oil fields and in the maintenance department at Southwestern College and Winfield State Hospital and Training Center.

Survivors include his wife, Valerie Jean Metz, Booneville; two sons, Martin Burtis Metz, Seattle, and Ronald Parker Metz, Joplin, Mo.; a daughter, Valoise Jarene Armstrong, Seattle; three grandchildren and a great-grandson.

Leonard Brant

Services for Leonard C. Brant were held at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 6, 2001, in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Steve Souther officiated.

June Vasey was the organist. The music included "Ave Maria" and "Take My Hand, Precious Lord."

Burial was in Highland Cemetery. American Legion Post 10 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3544 provided military honors. Winfield Lodge 110 Ancient Free & Accepted Masons performed Masonic ceremonies with Wayne Rush as lecturer.

Casket bearers were Brant's great-grandsons, Jeff Bradbury, Gregg Brant, Mark Dolbey, Torey Kelley, Brett Thomson and Chad Ward.

A memorial has been established with the Kansas Veterans Home at Winfield.

Sally Hall

Sarah B. "Sally" Hall, 96, of 1611 Ritchie, Winfield, died Dec. 6, 2001, at Winfield Rest Haven.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Highland Cemetery. Miles Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established with Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Hall was born Aug. 21, 1905, in New Salem, to Iva (Thirsk) and Harry S. Sawyer. She was raised in New Salem and received her education in rural Winfield.

On June 1, 1925, she married Joe D. Boyer in Winfield. They lived in Moline until moving to Winfield in 1935. He died in February 1957.

She later married Lee Hall in Winfield. He died June 5, 1981.

Hall worked as a retail sales clerk and was a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and William Newton Hospital Auxiliary.

Survivors include her daughter, Betty Morrill, Los Alamitos, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Veda Koelling, Wichita; a brother, Bill Sawyer, and a sister, Marjorie Brant, both of Winfield; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Dixie McColl

BENTONVILLE, Ark. - Dixie Dean McColl, 80, of Bentonville, formerly of Winfield, died Nov. 30, 2001, at Bates Medical Center in Bentonville.

Services were held Dec. 4 at the First Presbyterian Church in Bentonville. The Rev. Gordon Garlington officiated. Burial was in Bentonville Cemetery under the direction of Stockdale Funeral Services.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, American Heart Association or American Cancer Society.

McColl was born Sept. 26, 1921, in Meadville, Mo., to Cordia (Morris) and Joseph Edmundson. She graduated from Kansas City General Hospital School of Nursing in 1942 and was a registered nurse for over 50 years. She moved to Bella Vista, Ark., from Kingfisher, Okla., in 1974, and was instrumental in establishing and developing Concordia Care Center for Cooper Communities.

McColl was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and P.E.O. Chapter CL, both of Bentonville, and a volunteer for Helping Hands and Sunshine School.

Her husband of 39 years, Gerald Dean McColl, and a daughter, Claudia Ann McColl, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Lynn Leonard, Tulsa, Okla.; a sister, Lou Ann Mundell, Linneus, Mo.; two grandchildren and nieces and nephews, including some in the Winfield area.

Glenn Fast

ARKANSAS CITY - Glenn Charles Fast, 75, of Arkansas City, died Dec. 4, 2001, at his home.

Cremation has taken place. Services were at 1 p.m. today at Trinity Episcopal Church. The Rev. Craig Sweeney officiated. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Barton City Cemetery near Liberal, Mo.

Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials have been established with the Trinity Episcopal Church Outreach Fund and Hospice Care of Kansas.

Fast was born Oct. 31, 1926, in Liberal, Mo., to Katie (Pomatto) and Rolla B. Fast. He was raised and educated in Liberal.

A veteran of World War II, Fast served in the U.S. Army in the Asia-Pacific Theater.

He and his wife, Lee, were married in 1952. They were married for 33 years and had three children.

On May 12, 1989, he married Harriet Brown in Miami, Okla., and they made their home in Arkansas City.

Fast was a design engineer for Gordon-Piatt Energy Group. He retired in August after 30 years of service.

He attended Trinity Episcopal Church and was a member of Spencer-Ralston Post 1254 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife, Harriet Fast, Arkansas City; a son, Glenn Kelvin Fast, Houston; two daughters, Sherry Potter, Andover, and Denise Goodall, Goddard; two stepsons, Brian W. Demo, Arkansas City, and Bradford C. Demo, Lawrence; a sister, Lois Mooney, Liberal, Mo.; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Wayne Casebolt

OTTAWA - Wayne Casebolt, 90, of Ottawa, formerly of Cedar Vale, died Dec. 5, 2001, at Village Manor Nursing Home in Ottawa.

Services will be at 10 a.m Monday at the First Christian Church in Ottawa. Burial will be at 4 p.m. in Highland Cemetery at Winfield.

Friends may call at Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, KS 66067, Saturday and Sunday.

The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Diabetes Association, the Franklin County Cancer Foundation or the Ottawa First Christian Church in care of the mortuary.

Casebolt was born July 4, 1911, in Cedar Vale, to Sarah Catherine "Kate" (Lyon) and Louis Casebolt. He was raised and educated in Cedar Vale. He moved to Winfield in 1936, to Mason City, Iowa, in 1959 and to Ottawa in 1963.

On Sept. 13, 1937, he married Edna Hazel Sturm in Winfield.

A mechanic and bus driver for 20 years, Casebolt was employed by Winfield Bus Service. He was also employed as a driver for USD 290, Ottawa Bus Co. and City Bus Service, all in Ottawa.

Casebolt was a member and deacon of the First Christian Church in Ottawa and a former member of the Church of Christ in Cedar Vale. He was a member of the Christian Men's Fellowship and the Jolly 60s.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Casebolt, Ottawa; two daughters, Leota Faye Evans, Monticello, Ga., and Sharon Kay Godfrey, Grandview, Mo.; a son, Max Dean Casebolt, Ottawa; a sister, Dorothy Reynolds, Topeka; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mae Walker

C. Mae Walker, 95, of Winfield Rest Haven, died Dec. 8, 2001.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorials have been established with the Winfield Rest Haven Activity Fund and the First Baptist Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Walker was born Aug. 10, 1906, in McPherson County to Fannie (Schriner) and Charles Schriner. She was raised in the Wellington area and graduated from Wellington High School.

On Sept. 22, 1927, she married Glenn H. Walker in Hutchinson. He died in February 1971.

Walker and her husband owned and operated Walker College Hill Grocery in Winfield for many years.

She had been an active member of the First Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Ethel Marie Morrical, Winfield; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Sarah Hall

Services for Sarah B. "Sally" Hall were held at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 8, 2001, in Highland Cemetery. Dr. Allen Polen officiated.

A memorial was established with Hospice Care of Kansas.

Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
