Lorene Rust

ALVA, Okla. - Lorene B. Rust, 83, of Alva, Okla., died Jan. 4, 2002, at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center in Enid, Okla.

Services were 10:30 a.m. Jan. 7 at the Alva First United Methodist Church. The Rev. J. Weegie Williams officiated. Burial was in the Alva Municipal Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to the Alva United Methodist Church's Save the Stained Glass Fund.

Wharton Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Organist was Alycen Ridgway. Singers were the Men's Quartet and Peggy O'Neil. Music included "The Lord's Prayer," "You Will Never Walk Alone" and Beethoven's Sonnet 13 in C Minor.

Casket beaers were Olen Gray, Steve Kline, Randy Hamilton, Larry Lewis, Darrell Kline and Delbert Rhodes.

Rust was born Feb. 20, 1918, on a farm east of Capron, Okla., to Nora Marie (Weigand) and Daniel Valentine Rust. She graduated from Burlington High School in 1935.

In 1935 she went to Wichita where she worked for a short time before moving to Alva to work for TG&Y. She worked for Safeway from 1942 to 1985.

Rust was a member of the Alva First United Methodist Church. Survivors include her friend, Mary Poe Joseph, Alva; two sisters, Effie Cavanaugh, Hutchinson, and Naomi Gannon, Enid, Okla.; and a nephew, Phil Rust, Winfield.

Doris Cox

SILVER SPRING, Md. - Doris C. (Elder) Cox, 88, of Silver Spring, formerly of Douglass, Belle Plaine and Winfield, died Jan. 1, 2002, at Forest Glen Nursing Center in Silver Spring after a short illness.

Services were 1 p.m. Jan. 7 at the Belle Plaine United Methodist Church. Burial was in Belle Plaine Cemetery.

Memorials have been established with the Belle Plaine United Methodist Church, 124 E. 10th, Belle Plaine, KS 67013, and the American Heart Association, 5375 W. Seventh, Topeka, KS 66606.

Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Cox was born March 31, 1913, near Douglass, to Vina (Washburn) and Elmer Elder. She was raised in the Douglass area and graduated from Douglass High School in 1931. She attended Butler County College.

In 1938 she married Asa Cox in Newton. They farmed east of Belle Plaine until his death in 1981. She also worked as a Linotype operator at the Belle Plaine News for several years.

Cox moved to Winfield in 1981 and to Silver Spring in 1985 to be with her daughter.

Cox was a member of the Jolly Afternoon Club and United Methodist Church of Belle Plaine, the Lunch Bunch at Winfield and the Air Capital Carnival Glass Club.

An infant daughter, Judith Ann, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Janice Rothlauf, Silver Spring, Md.; a sister, Carol Compton, Winfield; and a brother, Paul Elder, Albuquerque, N.M.

Richard Cook

NAPLES, Fla. - The Hon. Richard E. Cook, 67, of Naples, formerly of Arkansas City, died Jan. 7, 2002, at his home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Arkansas City. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery.

The Rosary will be recited Thursday night at 7 at the church.

A memorial has been established with the Children's Education Endowment Fund of Sacred Heart School. Contributions may be made through Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 756, Arkansas City, KS 67005.

Cook was born March 3, 1934, in Arkansas City, to Vera Marie (Hamlin) and Charles S. Cook. He attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Arkansas City High School in 1952.

He continued his education at Cowley County Community College, and after serving in the Marine Corps from 1954 to 1956, enrolled at Washburn University and graduated with his law degree in May 1964. On May 1, 1970, he was awarded his juris doctor degree from Washburn University.

Cook practiced law in Arkansas City and later served as district judge in Cowley County. He retired in July 1998.

On June 1, 1963, he married Lois N. Thurber in Topeka. They made their home in Arkansas City until he retired and they moved to Naples.

Cook was a member of the Catholic Church and Phi Alpha Delta fraternity.

A daughter, Roxanne Leigh Cook, and a son, Brian Thomas Cook, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Lois Cook, Naples, Fla.; a daughter, Tacy Cathleen Smith, Gainesville, Fla.; a sister, Brenda M. Geraghty, Lake Lotawana, Mo.; and two granddaughters.

Doris Cox

Services for Doris Elder Cox were held at 1 p.m. Jan. 7 at Belle Plaine United Methodist Church. The Rev. Antonio Torres officiated. Burial was in Belle Plaine Cemetery.

Evelyn Fuller was the organist.

Casket bearers were Dick Elder, Matt Elder, Kenneth Easterly, Shawn Easterly, Gary Hilding and Kelly Hilding.

A memorial has been established with the Belle Plaine United Methodist Church, Box 382, Belle Plaine, KS 67013.

Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Beatrice Hamlin

Services for Beatrice "Bea" Hamlin were held in the Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Revs. Shawn Sturm and Orvan Gilstrap officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.

Special music included "Just as I Am" and "How Great Thou Art," performed by Kathy Waite and Wayne Bodkins.

Casket bearers were Dr. Gary Hamlin, Forrest Mitchell, Kris Moore, David Smith, Rodney Smith and Kathy Stewart.

Memorials have been established with the First Christian Church, Winfield Rest Haven or a charity of the donor's choice.

Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Lydia Glaser

PLATTE CITY, Mo. - Lydia E. Glaser, 91, of Platte City, formerly of Winfield, died Jan. 7, 2002, at North Kansas City Hospital.

Friends may call at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday. Services will be at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Kansas City, Mo., or Trinity Lutheran Church, Winfield.

Glaser was born Oct. 7, 1910, in Arnesville, Ill., to Emma Albers and Louis F. Eisberg.

She lived at Rehwinkel Apartments from 1994 to June 2000.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Glaser, and a son, Jerry Glaser.

Survivors include her daughter, Jacquie Goldammer, Platte City, Mo.; a brother, Wilbur Eisberg; and three sisters, Martha Hartung, Margaret Hayes and Anne Sparks.

Dean Rausch

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Dean Rausch, 78, of Kansas City, died Jan. 6, 2002, after a lengthy illness.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Platte Woods Church, 7310 NW Prairie View Road, Kansas City, Mo.

In lieu of flowers or donations, the family requests that you say a kind word to someone to whom you would not normally speak.

Rausch was born and raised in Winfield. During World War II, he served in the 13th Airborne. He graduated from Southwestern College.

Rausch was a member of the Platte Woods Church, the All Tribes Methodist Church and civic and community organizations, including the Optimist Club, No Names and Hatebusters.

His wife, Vernice Rausch, and a son, Webster Rausch, preceded him in death.

Survivors include six sons, 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Jim Runsick

DOUGLASS - Jim T. Runsick, 85, of Douglass, died Jan. 6, 2002.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Smith Mortuary in Derby.

Memorial contributions may be made to Colorado Christian Services, 4796 S. Broadway, Suite 110, Englewood, CO 80110.

Runsick was born Sept. 23, 1916, in Poughkeepsie, Ark., to Rosa (Kent) and Jasper Runsick. He was a retired Boeing aircraft mechanic.

Survivors include a daughter, Willene Heitkotter, Douglass; three sisters, Maurine Bilbery, Sidney, Ark., and Bonnie Flowers and Maudine Bailey, both of Wichita; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Larry Jones

PONCA CITY - Robert Larry Jones, 62, longtime resident of Ponca City, died Jan. 6, 2002, at Jim Thorpe Rehabilitation Center in Oklahoma City.

Services were at 2 p.m. Jan. 10 at Central Baptist Church. The Rev. John Waterloo officiated. Burial was in the Odd Fellows Cemetery with American Legion Post 14 performing the flag presentation. Grace Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established with Central Baptist Church, 618 E. Hartford, Ponca City, OK 74601.

Jones was born June 24, 1939, in Medford, Okla., to Helen Evelyn (Barr) and Robert Lloyd Jones. He was raised in Enid, Okla., and graduated from Enid High School.

On June 15, 1964, he married Glenda Louise Cranford in Wichita where they made their first home. In 1967 they moved to Ponca City where he worked at the city's water filter plant for 30 years. His wife died Aug. 12, 1987.

On Sept. 11, 1995, he married Mary Thurman Bruner in Eureka Springs, Ark., and they made their home in Ponca City.

Jones was a member of Central Baptist Church, American Legion Post 14 and several bowling leagues.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jones, and a daughter, Kathy Jackson, both of Ponca City; three stepsons, Loren, Donnie and Ronnie Bruner, all of Arkansas City; a stepdaughter, Pamela Stephens, Blackwell; two sisters, MaryLou Gaines, Lawton, Okla., and Sharon Mudd, Lebanon Junction, Ky.; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
