Rosalind Almquist

A. Rosalind "Rosie" Almquist, 89, of 1320 Wheat Road, Winfield, died Jan. 11, 2002, at William Newton Hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Miles Funeral Service. Cremation has taken place. Private burial will be in Lakeview Gardens, Wichita.

A memorial has been established with the Winfield Gardenaires. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Almquist was born June 29, 1912, in Great Bend, to Nella Maude (Campbell) and Ralph G. Smith. She was raised in Great Bend and graduated from Great Bend High School in 1930.

On Aug. 31, 1930, she married Carl A. Almquist in Garden City, and they made their first home in Great Bend. In 1941 they moved to Wichita where she worked at Beech Aircraft during World War II. She later worked at Acme Lithograph in Wichita and received a Bookkeeper of the Year award. In 1956 she began employment as a clerk and interior decorator at Sears in Wichita and retired in 1974. She was business manager for the Wichita Symphony from 1977 to 1984.

Her husband died July 13, 1984.

In 1987 she moved to Winfield and was a greeter at Wal-Mart until 1996.

Almquist was a member of the William Newton Hospital Auxiliary, Winfield Community Council, Gardenaires and Cowley County Fair Board.

Survivors include a son, Lorrell "Bill" Almquist, Smith Center; two daughters, Yvonne Newman, Winfield, and Carolee Jo Bailey, Scottsdale, Ariz.; a brother, Ralph E. Smith, Baltimore, Md.; two sisters, Margaret Button, Great Bend, and May E. Wing, Winfield; 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Luther Ferguson

OXFORD - Luther B. Ferguson, 95, of Riverview Manor, Oxford, formerly of Udall, died Jan. 11, 2002, at William Newton Hospital in Winfield.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Udall Congregational Church. Burial will be in Udall Cemetery.

Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield until 9 tonight.

Memorials have been established with the Udall Congregational Church and the Udall First Responders. Contributions may be made at the church or funeral home.

Ferguson was born March 6, 1906, in Ringwood County, Okla., to Rhoda Dellah (Hooten) and William Harry Ferguson. The family moved to Kansas where he was raised and educated in Butler and Cowley counties.

On March 6, 1927, he married Irene Cook in Udall. They made their home on farms in Butler and Cowley counties. A farmer and dairyman for 50 years, Ferguson retired in 1971. After retirement, he and his wife spent winters in Texas and summers in Colorado.

His wife died Sept. 1, 1996. A few years later, he became a resident of Riverview Manor.

Ferguson was a member of the Udall Congregational Church. He was a former member of the Udall school board and the Ninnescah Township board.

Survivors include five daughters, Barbara Seaman, Joyce Brookings, Jewell Lacey and Linda Morton, all of Udall, and Caroline Miller, Alpine, Ariz.; a brother, Estel Ferguson, Wichita; a sister, Ona Griffeth, Marion; 18 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and 25 great-great-grandchildren.

Kermit Tuttle

Kermit B. Tuttle, 89, died Jan. 12, 2002, at his home in Winfield.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Gering Memorial Chapel, Gering, Neb. Burial will be in West Lawn Cemetery, Gering. Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established with First United Methodist Church in Winfield.

Tuttle was born June 2, 1912, in Elgin, Neb., to Wilbur and Nina (Brazie) Tuttle.

On Dec. 8, 1941, he married Marjorie Detlefsen. She died Dec. 25, 1996.

Tuttle was a self-employed carpenter most of his life. He served with the armed services in World War II and was a member of the American Legion, Moose Lodge and Eagle Lodge in Gering.

He often donated his carpentry service to those who could not afford to pay.

Tuttle moved to Winfield in 1999 to be with his son, Willie.

He was a member of Westway Christian Church, Scottsbluff, Neb.

A son, Don Tuttle, preceded him in death.

Survivors include two sons, Willie Tuttle, Winfield, and Greg Tuttle, Windsor, Colo.; a daughter, Patti Kohl, Cheyenne, Wyo.; two sisters, Jeanette Detlefsen, Fremont, Neb., and Nellie Hernandez, Kimball, Neb.; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Beverly Williams

WICHITA - Beverly Maxine Williams, 88, of Wichita, died Jan. 11, 2002, in Wichita.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church in Winfield. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery. Hillside Funeral Home West, Wichita, is in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established with the Alzheimer's Association Sunflower Chapter, 347 S. Laura, Wichita, KS 67211.

Williams was born Dec. 24, 1913, at Rock, to Charlie and Ethel Harp. She graduated from Winfield High School in 1931.

In 1948 she married Virgil Williams of Winfield. He preceded her in death in 1988.

Williams was employed in Kraft Foods' accounting department before her retirement.

Survivors include a son, Dennis Lunsford, Haysville; a brother, Marlyn "Sonny" Harp, Winfield; a sister, Ethelyn Falwell, Lawrence; and one grandson.

Harve McClung

ARKANSAS CITY - Harve Albert McClung, 87, of Arkansas City, died Jan. 10, 2002, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Blackwell Independent Order of Odd Fellows Cemetery. The Rev. Danny Daniel will officiate.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. -

McClung was born April 2, 1914, in Lawton, Okla., to Clara (Crawford) and Walter F. McClung. He was raised in Lawton and Blackwell and graduated from Blackwell High School in 1935.

During World War II, he was a member of the Eighth Army Air Corps' 584th Bomber Wing and served as a navigator on a B-26. He retired from the Air Force as a master sergeant in 1964.

On Jan. 11, 1947, he married Helen Faye Adams in Winfield. They lived in many places while he served in the Air Force. In 1965 they moved to Arkansas City.

McClung worked as manager of a Rose Hill nursing home for several years and later the Medicalodge North Post Acute Care Center in Arkansas City until his retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Helen McClung, and a daughter, Denise Aupperle, both of Arkansas City; a son, Darrell McClung, Winfield; a sister, Ruth Kelly, Valencia, Calif.; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

James Powell

WICHITA - James W. "Jim" Powell, 55, of Wichita, died Jan. 11, 2002, in Wichita.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Hillside Funeral Home Chapel in Augusta. Burial will be at 4 p.m. in Latham Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Jane Powell Fund, Rose Hill State Bank, 107 N. Rose Hill Road, Rose Hill, KS 67133.

Powell was born July 15, 1946, in Cedar Vale, to Velma V. (Downen) and Charles William Powell. He attended Atlanta schools.

During most of his adult life, Powell lived in Wichita, but he also resided in Arkansas City and Rose Hill.

On April 21, 1995, he married Jane Dimitt in Miami, Okla.

He retired from Great Plains Industries as a machinist.

Powell was a member of Graceway Community Church.

Survivors include his wife, Jane Powell, Wichita; a brother, Charles Powell, Rose Hill; and a sister, Edna Faye Foote, Arkansas City.

Oran Wadsack

WICHITA - Oran E. Wadsack, 84, of Wichita, died Jan. 11, 2002.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Resthaven Mortuary.

The family will greet friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, 1501 NW Ninth Ave., Bob Hope Road, Miami, FL 33136-1494.

Wadsack had worked as a school teacher in Atlanta, a certified public accountant in Wichita, a regional postal service budget officer in Chicago and Wichita and a city auditor in Wichita. He was retired.

He received a bachelor's degree from Pittsburg State University and did postgraduate work at Denver University.

Wadsack was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church and York Lodge 57.

A daughter, Joan McPherson, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Alma Wadsack, Wichita; two daughters, Carol Millard, Overland Park, and Judy Walsh, Olathe; a sister, Lorene Duncan, Wichita; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
