Mildred Broadhurst

Mildred Broadhurst, 93, of Winfield, formerly of Parsons, died Feb. 20, 2002, at Winfield Rest Haven.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Carson-Wall Funeral Home, Parsons, with the Rev. Robert Bardeen officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Parsons.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday.

Broadhurst was born Sept. 17, 1908, in Pittsburg, to Jennie (Mathieu) and Tracy Eyestone. She graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1928.

On Dec. 29, 1935, she married Guy Broadhurst in Pittsburg. They moved to Parsons in 1939. Her husband died March 23, 1989.

Broadhurst was a member of the First Presbyterian Church at Parsons.

She moved to Winfield in 1994.

Survivors include her son, Ron Broadhurst, Winfield, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Aaron Page

SUMNER, Wash. – Sgt. Aaron Allen Page, 27, of Sumner, formerly of Winfield, died Feb. 17, 2002, of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

An education fund for Page's son, Ethan, has been established at CornerBank in Winfield. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Page was born Oct. 1, 1974, in Wichita, to Delilah Mae (Allen) and Danny Roger Page. He was raised in Mulvane and received his General Equivalency Degree in Winfield. He worked for Coca-Cola Bottling Co. in Winfield for about two years before entering the military.

On Nov. 2, 1996, he married Lacretia Sutton.

In March 1997 Page entered the U.S.Army and received his basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C. Then the couple moved to Fort Gordon, Ga., where he attended Advanced Individual Training and became a communications specialist.

In December 1997 he and his wife moved to Fort Lewis, Wash., where Page held the rank of sergeant in Company C, 1st/23rd Infantry Regiment of the 2nd Infantry Division.

Page was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Lacretia Page, and his son, Ethan Allen Page, both of Sumner, Wash.; his parents, Danny and Sandy Page, Mulvane, and Delilah Smith, Missouri; a brother, Daniel Page, Virginia Beach, Va.; a sister, Ivy Page, Wichita; his grandmother, Minnie Page, Derby; and a half-brother, Lucky Hutchins, and two half-sisters, Mandy Hutchins and Daisy Hutchins, all of Missouri.

Robert Dobson

Robert Dobson, 79, of 1017 E. 13th, Winfield, died Feb. 20, 2002, at William Newton Hospital.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home until 7 tonight.

Dobson was born Sept. 24, 1922, in Bentley, to Edith Cecilia (Carey) and Lee Raymond Dobson. He was raised in Winfield and graduated from Winfield High School in 1939. Until World War II began, he attended Southwestern College on a vocal scholarship.

During the war, he served in the Army as a tank battalion commander.

On Aug. 6, 1942, he married Betty M. King.

After the service, he returned to Winfield where he owned Dobson Decorators until his retirement.

Dobson was a member of the First Baptist Church for 79 years. He was also a member of the Winfield American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and United Commercial Travelers.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Dobson, and a daughter, Diane Carol Eskridge, both of Winfield; a son, Michael Dobson, Arkansas City; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Della Weston

Services for Della L. Weston were held at 2 p.m. Feb. 22, 2002, in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Roderick Hathaway officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.

Irma Scholfield was the organist. Music included “Beyond the Sunset” and “How Great Thou Art,” performed by Wilma Anglemyer, “I Can Only Imagine,” performed by Mercy Me, and “In the Garden.”

Casket bearers were Robert Jennings, Jim McNickel, Bill Morris, Lester Priest, Gary Roberts and William Taylor III.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Winfield Area Emergency Medical Service, Hospice Care of Kansas and Winfield Rest Haven.

Royce McMillen

MANHATTAN – Royce L. McMillen, 90, of Manhattan, died Feb. 22, 2002, at St. Joseph Senior Community.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Highland Cemetery at Winfield. Brian Cobb will officiate.

The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Yorgensen-Meloan-Londeen Funeral Home in Manhattan.

Memorial contributions to Maude Carpenter Children's Home or any other charity may be sent in care of the funeral home, 1616 Poyntz Ave., Manhattan, KS 66502.

McMillen was born Aug. 17, 1911, in Caney, to Ada Lee (Clayton) and Clyde E. McMillen. He graduated from Winfield High School in 1929 and from Wichita Business College.

On Jan. 22, 1937, he married Evelyn DeWitt in Winfield. They moved to Manhattan in 1947 and owned and operated the Manhattan Mattress Co. for 33 years. They retired in 1980.

McMillen was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ and a past member of the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce, executive secretary of the Kansas Quarter Horse Association and editor of the Kansas Quarter Horse Magazine which won national acclaim. For many years he was assistant superintendent of the horse department at the Kansas State Fair.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn McMillen, Manhattan, and two sisters, Anne McComas, Winfield, and Erlene Smith, Abilene, Texas.

Robert Dobson

Services for Robert C. Dobson were held at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 23, 2002, in Union Cemetery. Pastor Mark Fry officiated.

Casket bearers were Eric Lybarger, Larry Joe Dobson, Rick Holman, David Pontious, Jan Nittler and Kevin Kelley.

Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Alma Cochran

Alma O. Cochran, 88, of Good Samaritan Village, Winfield, died there Feb. 22, 2002.

Services were held Feb. 25 in Wichita Park Cemetery. Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established with Trinity Lutheran Church.

Cochran was born Sept. 13, 1913, at Ellsworth, to Clara (Burmeister) and George Erdmann.

On May 14, 1942, she married William D. Cochran. They lived in Inglewood, Calif., then in Wichita for many years. He died March 26, 1977.

Cochran moved to Winfield in 1977. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors include a son, William D. Cochran Jr., Ballwin, Mo.; a daughter, Barbara Kaiser, Winfield; a brother, George Erdmann, Great Bend; two sisters, Edith Herrin, Wichita, and Pauline Polach, Salina; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Kenneth Huff

Kenneth E. Huff, 81, of Winfield, died Feb. 23, 2002, at Winfield Rest Haven.

Services were at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 25 in Ninnescah Cemetery at Udall. Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Cherilyn Huff Memorial Scholarship, c/o The State Bank, Winfield, KS 67156, or the Cystic Fibrosis Fund.

Huff was born April 3, 1920, in Trail City, S.D., to Charlotte (Hansen) and Elmer C. Huff.

On July 25, 1941, he married Katherine Wise. She died in January 1997.

Huff was a firefighter with the Winfield Fire Department from 1950 to 1964. He attained the rank of captain before retiring because of a disability.

He was a member of the Winfield Church of Christ, Cherokee Camping Club and National Campers and Hikers Association.

A son, Perry Huff, preceded him in death.

Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Linda Huff, Winfield; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Jim Crowe

James R “Jim” Crowe, 72, of 609 E. 15th, Winfield, died Feb. 23, 2002, at his home.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from noon to 9 p.m.

A memorial has been established with Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Crowe was born Jan. 27, 1930, in Ada, Okla., to Myrtle “Pat” (Adams) and James R. Crowe. The family later moved to Winfield where he completed his education.

During World War II, Crow served in the Merchant Marines. He then returned to Winfield. A journeyman pipefitter in Wichita Local 171, Crowe retired in 1988 due to failing health.

A son, Wesley Crowe, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Alice Crowe, and a son, David Crowe, both of Winfield; four daughters, Kerry Ronk, Grand Canyon City, Ariz., Debbie Miller and Lori Thacker, both of Oxford, and Rhonda Higgins, Winfield; a sister, Mary Beth Wheelen, Phoenix; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
