Divie Riggs
HEMET, Calif. – Divie Richard Riggs, 81, of Hemet, formerly of Winfield, died March 12, 2002, at Hemet Valley Healthcare.
Burial was in Alta Mesa Memorial Park, Palo Alto, Calif. The Cremation Society of Riverside was in charge of arrangements.
Riggs was born Sept. 27, 1920, in Winfield, to Susie Clara (Marts) and Clay Harrison Riggs. He graduated from Winfield High School. While in high school, he worked at the Harbor Restaurant for Rhodia Lee and Harry Bourdette.
During World War II, he was a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He also served as a major in the Air Force Reserves for 25 years.
Riggs worked as a sales representative for Millers Falls Tools for 30 years. He had been active in the Ancient Free & Accepted Masons since 1964.
Survivors include a son, Richard “Rick” Riggs, Hemet; a daughter, Chris Lewis, Half Moon Bay, Calif.; three sisters, Virginia Reagan, Sherman, Texas, Louise Barnthouse, Tulsa, Okla., and Margery Briscoe, Hutchinson; and one grandchild.
Hattie Bennett
Services for Hattie Ellen Sisco Bennett were held at 2 p.m. April 5, 2002, in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. David Sisco officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Music included “Go Rest High on That Mountain,” “Me Without You” and “If You Came Back From Heaven.”
Honorary casket bearers were Darrell Anthony, Anthony and DeWayne Luna, Frank Allen Reid, Frank Reid and Phillip Sisco II.
Casket bearers included Angel and Frank Barron, Curtis Moody, Rocky Roskydoll and Phillip and Robert Sisco.
A memorial has been established with the American Liver Foundation.
Neva Casebolt
Services for Neva Marie Casebolt were held at 10 a.m. April 5, 2002, in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. Chuck Northrop and Joel Newton officiated. Burial was in Ozro Falls Cemetery
near Cedar Vale.
Music included “Above the Bright Blue,” “Be With Me, Lord” and “Beautiful.” Justin Abraham was the song leader.
Honorary casket bearers were Brennon, Brett and Scott Abraham, Dustin Casebolt, Tim Heinz and Jeremy and Shane Northrop.
Casket bearers were Justin Abraham, Keith Casebolt, Bill Denison, Rob and Tony Hayes and Robby Heinz.
Memorials have been established with the Winfield Rest Haven Activities Fund and Harry Hines Memorial Hospice Inc.
Kent Archer
Kent L. Archer, 46, of Winfield, died April 4, 2002, at William Newton Hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in Tisdale Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday.
A memorial has been established with the American Liver Foundation. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Archer was born Jan. 21, 1956, in Winfield, to Twila (Baxter) and Mace Archer. He was raised in Winfield and attended Winfield High School.
In 1973 he married Marsha Strum. They later divorced.
In 1980 he married Charlene Montgomery. They later divorced.
Archer graduated from Wichita Area Automotive Technical Institute in 1978 was an auto body technician at Phillips Auto Service for 20 years. He also worked as an auto body technician in Missouri and Texas and was employed at Auto Techs in Winfield.
A daughter, Amy Lynn Archer, preceded him in death.
Survivors include four sons, Danny Archer, Jeremy Montgomery, Joshua Archer and Clayton Lauppe, a daughter, Jennifer Archer, his parents Mace and Twila Archer, two brothers, Bret Archer and Nat Archer, and three grandsons, all of Winfield.
Ellen Firebaugh
Ellen Firebaugh, 86, of Winfield, lifelong resident of Cowley County, died April 5, 2002, at her home.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Burden Cemetery.
Friends may call at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home until 7 tonight.

Firebaugh was born June 1, 1915, in Atlanta, to Estella (Meek) and Bill Samms. She was raised and educated in the Atlanta area.
On Dec. 2, 1935, she married Emery Firebaugh in Newkirk. She and her husband farmed in the area north of Tisdale for many years. They retired in 1991 and moved to Winfield.
Firebaugh attended the First Christian Church in Atlanta.
Survivors include her husband, Emery Firebaugh, Winfield; two sons, Terry Firebaugh, Blue Mound, and Norman E. Firebaugh, Cambridge; a sister, Evalyn Jenkins, Winfield; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Neal Kier
Neal J. Kier, 64, of 1411 E. Ninth, Winfield, died April 4, 2002, at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home until 9 tonight. The family will greet visitors from 6 to 8.
A memorial has been established with the First Pentecostal Church Children's Bus Ministry of Wichita. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Kier was born Feb. 21, 1938, in Wichita, to Eva May (Graham) and Clem Sidney Kier. He was raised and educated in El Dorado and the Towanda area and graduated from Towanda High School in 1959.
On Aug. 14, 1960, he married Arlene LaRue. They made their home in El Dorado. For 17 years he worked for Webster Engineering.
Kier was a member of the First Pentecostal Church of Wichita where he was an usher.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene Kier, a son, Les Kier, and two daughters, Lynette Snell and Loretta Beaver, all of Winfield, and five grandchildren.
Glenn Smith
WELLINGTON – Glenn E. Smith, 86, of Wellington, died April 4, 2002, in Derby.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Prairie Lawn Cemetery.
Friends may call at Hawks Funeral Home, 704 N. Washington, from 6 to 8 tonight.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Avenue of Flags.
Smith was a member of the American Legion and the Elks Lodge where he was named Man of the Year.
His wife, Alice L. Smith, preceded him in death.
Survivors include a son, Glenn E. Smith Jr.; a brother, Jeff Smith; a sister, Josephine Medley; one grandson and one great-granddaughter.
Tom Dimit
Services for John Thomas “Tom” Dimit were held at 10 a.m. March 30, 2002, at the First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Dr. Allen Polen and the Rev. Fred Houston officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Martin Rude sang “Sunrise, Sunset” and “Danny Boy.” Laura Belle Haines accompanied him on the piano.
Casket bearers were Troy Arie, Chadd and Jacob Dimit and Jeff, Tony and Tyson Russell.
Memorials have been established with Boy Scout Troop 316 and the United Methodist Men's Scholarship Fund.

Lonny Siever
OXFORD – Lonny Ray Siever, 53, of Oxford, died April 5, 2002, at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Wellington.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Oxford Cemetery. Cremation has taken place.
A memorial has been established with the Oxford Lions Club and the American Legion. Contributions may be made through Oxford Funeral Service.
Siever was born May 1, 1948, in Winfield, to Ruth (Buchanan) and Thomas Siever. He graduated from Oxford High School in 1966 and attended Cowley County Community College and Wichita State University.
For several years he farmed with his father and was a truck driver. For the last 10 years he was the owner and operator of Lonny's Service Station in Oxford.
He was active in the Oxford Lions Club and the American Legion.
Survivors include a sister, Melva Rochat, Winfield.
Cleora O'Hara
ARKANSAS CITY – Cleora Irene O'Hara, 89, of Arkansas City, died April 6, 2002, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery
at Winfield.
Memorials have been established with the American Heart Association and the First Southern Baptist Church in Hutchinson. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
O'Hara was born May 30, 1912, in Victoria, Texas, to Lillian (Collins) and Thomas Christian. She was raised and educated in Winfield and McPherson and graduated from McPherson High School in 1930.
On July 4, 1934, she married John Wallace O'Hara in McPherson. They owned and operated Jud's Cafe¥ in Chase for several years and moved to Arkansas City in the late 1960s. In Arkansas City, she managed the Town House Motel and later worked as a desk clerk for the Osage Hotel.
O'Hara was a longtime member of the First Southern Baptist Church of Hutchinson and past matron of the Carnation Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, in Chase.
Her husband, John O'Hara, died in 1974.
Survivors include three sons, John O'Hara, Maitland, Fla., Pat O'Hara, Arkansas City, and Larry O'Hara, Hutchinson; a foster son, Frank Miller, Amarillo, Texas; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
