NOLTING, Mildred M. (Buttron) Nolting, 94 years old of Nortonville, KS., died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006 at the St. Francis Hospital, Topeka, KS.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at the St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Nortonville, Ks. with Rev. Rick Twenhafel, officiating. Burial will follow in the Nortonville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 PM Sunday, February 26, 2006 at the O’Trimble Funeral Home Chapel, 329 Main, Nortonville, KS. Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Matthews Lutheran Church or the Lutheran Hour Ministries and left in care of the funeral home. Mildred Marie Buttron was born on Sept. 3, 1911 in her home northeast of Nortonville, the daughter of Fred and Louise (Moeck) Buttron. She was married to Albert H. Nolting of Nortonville on April 7, 1940 at the St. Matthews Lutheran Church. They had celebrated 63 years of marriage prior to Mr. Nolting preceding her in death on April 23, 2003. She was a homemaker and helped her husband on the family farm near Nortonville, Mrs. Nolting was a life long member of the St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Nortonville, where she was actively involved in the Lutheran Womens Missionary League and had taught Sunday School for many years. Survivors include her children and their spouses; Charlotte and Malcolm Gigstad, Everest, KS., Sarah and Bob Scholz, St. Peters, MO., and Melvin and Emily Nolting, Nortonville, KS. Her grandchildren; Scott Gigstad, Everest, KS., Shane Gigstad, Horton, KS., Jason and Matthew Scholz, St. Peters, MO., Jared Scholz,Springfield, MO., Sarah Nolting, Manhattan, KS., Andrew and Simon Nolting, Nortonville, KS., and one great grandchild, Chase Marie Gigstad, a brother; Ralph Buttron, Nortonville, KS.. Her parents, and two brothers; Carl and Harold Buttron also preceded her in death.

ZABEL, Carl Edgar “Buddy” Zabel, 81 years old, of Atchison, KS., died Saturday, June 17, 2006 at the Atchison Medicalodge.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 21st, 2006 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, with Rev. Robert Ziegler officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Atchison, KS. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 PM on Tuesday, June 20th, 2006 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Mr. Zabel was born on May 6, 1925 in Atchison, KS. the son of Ernest and Louise (Yost) Zabel. He graduated from Trinity Lutheran Grade School and Atchison High School. Mr. Zabel served as a staff sergeant with the Army Air Corps from 1943-1945 as a Armorer Gunner in the Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe Campaigns, where he flew 33 successful combat missions. Upon his discharge from the military, he went to work at the family grocery store; Zabel Grocery, 121 S. 8th St., Atchison, KS. He worked as the butcher for 46 years retiring in 1991 missing only 2 days of work during those years. Mr. Zabel was a lifelong member of the Trinity Lutheran Church where he had served as a financial secretary and usher. He was a member of the Fleming-Jackson Seever American Legion Post #6, Atchison, KS. He enjoyed reading, target shooting, picnics and woodworking.

His parents, and a brother, Richard Zabel, preceded Mr. Zabel in death. Survivors include two sisters; Virginia Zabel, Atchison, KS., and Ellen “Corrine” Reder, Effingham, KS., a close family friend, Pete Cordero, Atchison, KS., a nephew, Walter Reder, Granberry, TX., nieces; Diana Hobbs, Woodbury, VA., Carol Gregg, and Nancy Young, Effingham, KS. as well as seven great nieces and nephews, and three great great nephews.

GERARDY, George L. Gerardy, 86 years old, of Atchison, KS. died Saturday, June 17, 2006 at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 20th, 2006 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Rev. Eduardo Bousson, Pastor of the United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens. A Masonic Service will be held at 7:00 PM on Monday, June 19th, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, with visitation to follow until 8: 30 PM. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Shiners Children’s Hospital or the United Methodist Church and may be left in care of the home. George was born on July 25, 1919 in Wathena, KS., the son of George G. and Lucile (Niederhauser) Gerardy. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. Mr. Gerardy was a master carpenter and had worked for many years for the F.P. Gehring Construction Company. He worked for four years as the maintenance supervisor for the Mt. St. Scholastica College and then owned and operated the G & G Construction Co., Atchison, KS, before retiring in 1982. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, was a member and past Master of the Active Masonic Lodge #158, and the Abdullah Shrine. He served on the Atchison Housing Authority Board, and the North East Kansas Vo-Technical School Board. He was a member of the Martha Washington Chapter #215 Order of the Eastern Star, Atchison, KS. He enjoyed fishing, his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Mr. Gerardy was married to Thelma Wohlgemuth on Sept. 13, 1947 in Emporia, KS. Mrs. Gerardy survives of the home. Additional survivors include two sons; Gerald Gerardy, Atchison, KS., and Keith Gerardy, Beatrice, NE., two daughters; Willa George, Atchison, KS., and Mrs. Marty and husband Rick Zumbrunn, Atchison, KS. two sisters; Mary Ann Denton, and Josephine Denton, both of Atchison, KS., seven grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

THOMAS, Jerry Dean Thomas, 38 years old, of Atchison, KS., died Tuesday, June 13, 2006 after a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, June 19th, 2006 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, with Rev. Robert Ziegler, Pastor of the Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00PM on Monday at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Jerry was born on Nov. 15, 1967 in Atchison, KS., the son of Steven Carnes and Linda Thomas. He attended schools in Atchison, and worked as a ride operator for carnivals. Jerry had also worked various jobs including for Grippin Moving & Storage of Atchison, KS. He enjoyed fishing, playing games, playing cards, and especially his family.

Survivors include his mother and step father; Linda and Ray Martin, Atchison, KS., a son William Thomas, Kansas City, KS., two daughters; Tasha and Tyler Thomas, Kansas City, KS., two sisters; Amber Martin, Atchison, and Dana Flowers, Albany, MO., and two step sisters; Becky Martin, and Tracy Kane, both of Atchison, KS., and several aunts, uncles, and a niece. His maternal grandparents Robert & Geraldine Thomas, Atchison, and Nathan & Hallie Martin, preceded him in death.

THUMMEL, Margaret P. Thummel, 90 years old of Atchison, KS. died Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at her home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, June 16th, 2006 at St. Joseph’s Church, with Fr. Bertrand LaNoue as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Atchison, KS A parish rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM on Thursday, June 15th, 2006 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, with visitation to follow until 8:30 PM. Memorial contributions are suggested to ACES, or North East Kansas Multi-Co. Hospice. Condolences to the family may be left on line at www.becker-dyer.com.

Margaret P. Wentz was born on November 14, 1915 in Vermillion, KS., the daughter of John and Cecelia (Tylee) Wentz Margaret was married to Joseph Thummel on Feb. 18, 1939 in Tipton, KS. Mr. Thummel preceded her in death in 1998. Mrs. Thummel was a member of the St. Joseph Church, and enjoyed quilting, collecting antiques, reading, jig-saw puzzles and especially her family.

Survivors include a son; Dennis R. and wife Jo Thummel, Desloge,MO., a daughter; Patricia Heim, Atchison, KS., a brother; George Wentz, Sunrise Beach, MO., three sisters; Cora Henley, Rushville, MO., Dora Buchanan, Atchison, KS., and Ida Wadham, CA., twelve grandchildren, thirty two great grandchildren. Her parents, husband, a son; John Thummel, a brother; Ralph Wentz, and three sisters; Mabel Maycroft, Ethel Stanley, and Arbuts Lair, a granddaughter and a great granddaughter also preceded her in death.

MARIS, Mary Frances Maris, 95 years old,Vintage Park,Atchison, Ks., formerly of Nortonville, KS died Monday, June 12, 2006 at the Atchison Hospital. The body has been cremated.

Gravesides services and burial of cremated remains will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, June 19th, 2006 at the Nortonville, Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the ceremony at the Nortonville United Methodist Church basement. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Atchison Hospital and may be sent in care of the Becker-Dyer-Stanton & O’Trimble Funeral Home, 800 Kansas Ave., Atchison, KS 66002. Mary Frances Reed was born on Nov. 28, 1910 in Wellington, KS., the daughter of Hal E. and C. Berneice (Frank) Reed. She graduated from the Blackwell High School, Blackwell, OK., and furthered her education at the University of Oklahoma and Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia, KS. Mrs. Maris had worked as a secretary for the Probate Court, Sumner CO., KS. In the late sixties-early seventies she worked for the Jefferson County Courthouse, Oskaloosa, KS., and then at the SRS Office, also in Oskaloosa, KS. When the Village Villa Nursing home started she was the Food Service Supervisor. She was a former member of the Nortonville United Methodist Church, presently a member of the Atchison United Methodist Church, a member of the Home Welfare Club, the Nortonville Garden Club, the United Methodist Women and the Tuesday Afternoon Bridge Club. She was a long time member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Nortonville.

Mary was married to Laurence S. Maris on July 20, 1941 in Wellington, KS.. Mr. Maris preceded her in death on March 2, 1982. Survivors include a son; Richard L. and his wife Linda Maris, White Cloud, KS., three daughters; Linda and her husband Bill Cochran, Lenexa, KS., Diane and husband Joe McCoy, Wichita, KS., and Nancy and husband Sam Wheeler, Atchison, KS., nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Her parents, husband, a son; Phillip (1951), a brother Ed Reed, and a sister; Barbara Harris preceded her in death.

THOMPSON, Lois M. Thompson, 58 years old, of Atchison, KS. died Sunday, June 11, 2006 at her home following at lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 14th, 2006 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Lucas, Pastor of the Faith Bible Fellowship officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Atchison, KS. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until time of service on Wednesday at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Lois M. Goodpasture was born on October 19, 1947 in Atchison, KS., the daughter of Jessie E. and Amy L. (Burton) Goodpasture. She attended the Atchison High School, later receiving her GED. She attended NEKTC for one year. She had worked for Century 21, Atchison selling real estate. Mrs. Thompson was a homemaker and enjoyed many hobbies including scrap booking, baseball cards, and selling many different things such as Avon, and toys. She owned and operated a 500 Store-TNT Bargain Barn and Chatty’s. She enjoyed trips to the casino and spending time with family, children and grandchildren. She attended Faith Bible Fellowship Church.

Lois was married to Laurence B. Thompson on January 28, 1963 in Atchison, KS. He survives of the home. Additional survivors include her parents; Jesse E. and Amy L. Goodpasture, Atchison, KS., two sons; Laurence B. and his wife Jessica Thompson, Jr., Blue Springs, MO., and Tyler J. Thompson, of the home. Four daughters; Laura L. Thompson, Atchison, Leona and her husband Jay Motsinger, Atchison, KS., Tiffany Thompson, Atchison, and Brooke Thompson, of the home. A brother; John and his wife Sharon Goodpasture, Sr., Atchison, KS., three sisters; Lola Earl, Atchison, KS., Donna and her husband Jim Wood, Atchison, KS., Linda Ballard, Atchison, KS., and Marilyn and her husband Roger Chatman, Winthrop, MO., one granddaughter Jessica Motsinger, three grandsons; Tobin Thompson, Nicholas Motsinger, and Talan Thompson, and several nieces and nephews. Her brother, Jesse L. Goodpasture, a sister; Carol Martin, and brother in-law Richard Earl preceded her in death.

WISTUBA, Raymond J. Wistuba, 82, Valley Falls, KS passed away Thursday, June 8, 2006 at Jefferson County Geriatric Center, Winchester, KS.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at St. Joseph Church, Nortonville, KS. with Father John Reynolds, Celebrant. Burial at St. Lawrence Cemetery, Easton, KS. A parish rosary will be said at 6:30 PM followed by visitation till 8:00 PM Monday at the church. A vigil prayer service will be said at 8:00 PM. O’Trimble Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jefferson County Hospice or the Jefferson County Geriatric Center and may be left in care of the funeral home.

Mr. Wistuba was born November 12, 1923 in Winchester, KS the son of Carl Joseph and Mary Frances (Zelfer) Wistuba. He was a 1941 graduate of Winchester High School. Raymond was a member of the St. Joseph Church and the Knights of Columbus at Mooney Creek. He was a farmer and stockman most of his life.

He married Kathleen Striegel in November of 1947. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include his daughters Karen Jeanne Splichal and her husband Ed of Belleville, KS; Susan Elaine Aspinwall and her husband John of Nortonville; Patricia Ann Bahr of Tecumseh, KS; A. Jane Hodge and her husband Perry of Wichita, KS; Lori Lynne Hedges and her husband Rob of Ottawa, KS and Ann Margaret “Maggie” Ferguson and her husband Chris of Omaha, NE. Sons John Charles Wistuba of Valley Falls, KS and Robert Steven Wistuba and his wife Tammy of Valley Falls, KS. 18 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, sister Mary Louise Gragg of Topeka, KS.

He was preceded in death by brothers Theodore, Harry, and Charles Wistuba and twin sisters Loretta and Florentina Wistuba.
