Boyd Waite

Services for O. Boyd Waite were held at 2 p.m. June 5, 2002, at the First Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Deitra Black officiated. Burial was in Mount Vernon Cemetery.

Greg Rusk presented the family tribute, “My Hero.” Karen Gottlob gave the eulogy.

Music included “I'd Rather Have Jesus,” “Where the Roses Never Fade,” “Beyond the Sunset” and “Because He Lives,” performed by Kathy Waite. Sara Weinert was the pianist.

Honorary casket bearers were Lloyd Clarkson, Loyd Hittle, John Schlickau, Daniel Smith, Omer Smith, Don Snyder, Darrell Sutor, Bill Tharp, Dr. Richard Warren and Jay Williams.

Casket bearers were Bill Phipps, Clay Rusk, Clint Rusk, Greg Rusk, Austin Waite and Justin Waite.

A memorial has been established with the Winfield Chapter of FFA.

Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Glenn Calvin

Services for Glenn R. Calvin were held at 10 a.m. June 6 at the First Baptist Church. The Rev. Dr. James McIntosh officiated. Marilyn Buffum was the organist. McIntosh sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Under His Wings I Am Safely Abiding.”

Burial was in Akron Cemetery. American Legion Post 10 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3544 performed military graveside rituals. Winfield Lodge 110 Ancient Free & Accepted Masons performed Masonic graveside rites.

Casket bearers were Danny Calvin, Jeremy Calvin, Van Calvin, Tom Elliott, Rod Musick and Terry Perkins.

Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Arlene Tidwell

ARKANSAS CITY – Arlene Evelyn Tidwell, 61, of Arkansas City, died June 5, 2002, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home. The Rev. John Horton will officiate. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Memorials have been established with Victory in the Valley and Vyne Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Tidwell was born April 21, 1941, in Newkirk, Okla., to Gladys (Hunter) and Albert Buell. She attended Geuda Springs schools and graduated from high school in 1959.

An Arkansas City area resident most of her life, she worked on the production line at Rubbermaid in Winfield and was a member of Central Baptist Church in Winfield.

Her husband, Herbert Gootee, preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sons, Curtis Gootee, Arkansas City, and Tony Miller, Wichita; a daughter, Tina Reynolds, and a brother, John Buell, both of Wichita; three sisters, Catherine Wells, Chicago, Ill., Anna Swinney, Geuda Springs, and Darlene Cameron, Arkansas City; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Pauline Watkins

DOUGLASS – Pauline L. (Gulick) Watkins, 76, of Douglass, died June 5, 2002.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Douglass. Burial will be in Douglass Cemetery.

Friends may call at Dunsford Funeral Home Chapel until 8 tonight.

A memorial has been established with the First Baptist Church.

Watkins was a cook in the Augusta school system.

Survivors include her husband, Roy Watkins, and three sons, Roger Watkins, Randy Watkins and Perry Watkins, all of Douglass; four daughters, Joy Detwiler, Winfield, Rhonda Hall and Zeta Ludlow, both of Augusta, and Belinda Watkins, Enid, Okla.; a brother, Steven Gulick, Wichita; two sisters, Lydia Gulick, Cleo Springs, Okla., and Alice Stuck, Carmen, Okla.; 19 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Patricia Ranzau

ARKANSAS CITY – Patricia Ann Ranzau, 54, of Arkansas City, died June 5, 2002, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita after a long illness.

The Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday and a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, both at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Parker Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Hawks Funeral Home to establish a trust for Ranzau's grandchildren.

Ranzau was born Sept. 9, 1947, in Independence.

She married Don Ranzau.

Survivors include her husband, Don Ranzau, Arkansas City; two sons, Darell Ranzau and Chet Ranzau; four daughters, Rhonda McCubbin, Samantha Ranzau, Cyndi Richardson and Traci Ranzau; two stepsons, Richard Ranzau and Clifford Ranzau; a brother, Richard Emmitt Willison Jr.; a sister, Marsha Conrad; and 13 grandchildren.

Duane Gere
Services for Duane G. Gere were held at 2 p.m. June 7 in New Salem Cemetery. The Rev. Steve Thatwa officiated.

Casket bearers were Josh Golightley, Larry Golightley, Robbie Golightley, Joseph Toon, Tim Toon and Tom Toon.

A memorial has been established with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita.

Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Frances Redd

MOLINE – Frances May Redd, 66, longtime resident of the Moline community, died June 5, 2002, at her home near Moline.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard. Lloyd G. Zimmerman will officiate. Burial will be in Moline Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Redd was born on May 9, 1936, in Spearman, Texas, to Jennie M. (Matthews) and Aubrey A. Boxford. She attended school and grew to womanhood in Texas and Oklahoma.

On June 23, 1954, she married Edward Maxfield Redd in Clovis, N.M. They lived in Oklahoma and other places while her husband served in the military. They moved to Elk County in 1975. A homemaker, she was also employed at Howard Twilight Manor for several years.

Survivors include her husband, Ed Redd, Moline; four sons, Lee Redd, Sayre, Okla., Mackie Redd, Udall, Phillip Redd, Sedan, and Jeff Redd, Weleetka, Okla.; a daughter, Nadine, Redd, Kansas City, Kan.; a brother, Kenneth Matthews, Lufkin, Texas; three sisters, Audrey Dwyer, Colorado Springs, Colo., Georgie Roedell, Newkirk, Okla., and Betty Morrison, Woodward, Okla.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Evelyn Wiggins
RUSSELL – Evelyn Irene Wiggins, 75, of Russell, formerly of Cedar Vale, died June 7, 2002, at St. John Rest Home in Victoria.

Services were 2 p.m. June 10 in Cedar Vale Cemetery. The Rev. Jerry Bever officiated.

A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society. Contributions may be made through Pohlman's Mortuary in Russell.

Wiggins was born July 27, 1926, in Cedar Vale, to Alice (Duensing) and Erle Sweaney. She was raised and educated in Cedar Vale and at an early age began her career as a nurse's aide.

On Feb. 16, 1946, she married Paul Floyd Wiggins in Sedan. They lived in Oberlin, Pratt and Hays before moving to Russell in 1967. In Russell she worked as a nurse's aide at the Ala Fern Nursing Home and at the Russell Kare Center where she also worked with medical records. She retired in August 1984.

Her husband died Aug. 15, 1991.

Survivors include a son, Clifton Wiggins, Russell; a daughter, Sherrie Heiman, Longmont, Colo.; two sisters, Shirley Brown, Cedar Vale, and Betty Layton, Howard; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Jodi Burnsworth

Services for Jodi Ann Burnsworth were held at 10:30 a.m. June 8 in the Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. The Rev. Shawn Sturm officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.

Music was “Morning Has Broken.”

Casket bearers were Linden Burnsworth, Danny Doyle, Joseph Henry and Mathew Charboneau.

Alice Wilson
EL DORADO – S. Alice Wilson, 58, of El Dorado, formerly of Winfield, died June 9, 2002, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home until 8 tonight.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Wilson was born Aug. 8, 1943, in De Graff, to Eula (Ehrlich) and Arthur Thomas. When she was young, the family moved to El Dorado where she was raised and educated.

On Oct. 20, 1958, she married Howard T. Wilson in Newkirk. He died June 22, 1985.

Wilson worked in Winfield at Focus Development Center for eight years. In 1997 she returned to El Dorado where she worked at Knutson Manor.

She was a member of the Cumberland Christian Church in Douglass.

Survivors include four sons, Ronald Wilson and Howard Dean Wilson, both of El Dorado, Daniel Wilson, Douglass, and Dale Wilson, Arkansas City; two daughters, Theresa Moore and Debbie Hamilton, both of Douglass; three brothers, Don Thomas and Lloyd Thomas, both of El Dorado, and David Thomas, Winfield,; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Patricia Ranzau

A Mass of Christian burial for Patricia Ann Ranzau was celebrated at 10 a.m. June 10 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Arkansas City. The Rev. John Brungardt officiated. Burial was in Parker Cemetery.

Marcia Stultz was the cantor and Debbie Schaffer, the accompanist. Music included “Be Not Afraid,” “Here I Am, Lord,” “On Eagles' Wings” and “Prayer of St. Francis.”

Casket bearers were Keith McCubbin, Robert Richards, Cyril “Gene” Malone, Craig Clark, Brandon Russell and Matthew Bradley.

Hawks Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mary Marshall

HUTCHINSON – Mary Irene Marshall, 83, formerly of Winfield, died June 11, 2002, at Hutchinson Hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials have been established with the Millington Street Baptist Church and the American Diabetes Association. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Marshall was born April 12, 1919, in Carterville, Mo., to Nellie Ann (Bolin) and James P. Sparks. She was raised and educated in Arma where she graduated from Crawford County High School in 1939.

On Oct. 18, 1941, in Mulberry, she married Albert Marshall. They moved to Winfield in 1949.

She first stayed home to raise her children, then worked as a nurse's aide at William Newton Hospital from 1968 to 1980.

Marshall's husband died on Aug. 17, 1992. In 2000 she moved to Hutchinson to be close to her daughter.

She was a member of Millington Street Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Cleva Marie Wilson, Hutchinson; a son, James Albert Marshall, Carmichael, Calif.; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
