Lola Catlin
WICHITA – Lola Mae Catlin, 83, homemaker, of Wichita, formerly of Herington, died June 11, 2002, at Wesley Medical Center.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Norwich United Methodist Church.
A memorial has been established as the Lola Mae Catlin Scholarship Fund, c/o Bank of America, 8304 W. Central, Wichita, KS 67212.
Catlin's husband, Roland D. Catlin, and a son, Alvin F. Catlin, preceded her in death.
Survivors include four sons, Glenn M. Catlin, Herington, Harley D. Catlin, Lawrence, Melvin F. Catlin, Beckley, W.Va., and Roger R. Catlin, Wichita; four daughters, Janette Vulgamore, Norwich, Patty Sattler, Winfield, Rowena Linnabary, Wichita, and Mitzy Combs, Lake Tapawingo, Mo.; a brother, Dale Davis, Harper; 24 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
Alice Wilson
EL DORADO – S. Alice Wilson, 58, of El Dorado, formerly of Winfield, died June 9, 2002, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus in Wichita.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home until 8 tonight.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Wilson was born Aug. 8, 1943, in De Graff, to Eula (Ehrlich) and Arthur Thomas. When she was young, the family moved to El Dorado where she was raised and educated.
On Oct. 20, 1958, she married Howard T. Wilson in Newkirk. He died June 22, 1985.
Wilson worked in Winfield at Focus Development Center for eight years. In 1997 she returned to El Dorado where she worked at Knutson Manor.
She was a member of the Cumberland Christian Church in Douglass.
Survivors include four sons, Ronald Wilson and Howard Dean Wilson, both of El Dorado, Daniel Wilson, Douglass, and Dale Wilson, Arkansas City; two daughters, Theresa Moore and Debbie Hamilton, both of Douglass; three brothers, Don Thomas and Lloyd Thomas, both of El Dorado, and David Thomas, Winfield,; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Savinah Harpending
OXNARD, Calif. – Savinah Audrey Harpending, 87, of Oxnard, Calif., formerly of Winfield, died May 25, 2002.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. June 16 in the Garcia Mortuary Chapel, 629 South A, Oxnard. The Rev. David Knapp will officiate.

Harpending was born Dec. 15, 1914, in Marshfield, Mo., to Bessie and Stanley Shockey. Raised in Winfield, she graduated from Winfield High School in 1932 and from Southwestern College in 1936.
She was a teacher and a physical therapist while serving as a captain in the U.S. Army. She lived in Penn Yan, N.Y., for 30 years prior to retiring to California in 1982.
Her husband, Dr. Richard Harpending, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Hannah Lopez; two sisters, Vierdonia Mae Leopold and Louise Ralph; a brother, Winfred Shockey; two grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Mildred Cole
ENID, Okla. – Mildred Mary Ogden Cole, 97, of Enid, formerly of Winfield, died June 11, 2002, at Greenbrier Nursing Home in Enid.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Winfield. Burial will be in Oxford Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church in Winfield through Anderson-Burris Funeral Home of Enid.
Cole was born Nov. 25, 1904, seven miles south of Oxford, to Mary (Quinn) Holman.
She attended schools in rural Geuda Springs and graduated from Wellington High School. She also attended Emporia Teachers College where she received her lifetime teaching certificate. She then taught two years in rural Sumner County schools.
On Aug. 20, 1925, she married Stephen Ogden, and they made their home in the Geuda Springs area. He died on Aug. 1, 1952.
She then studied secretarial courses at St. John's College in Winfield. After her studies, she worked at the alfalfa mill in Oxford, for Powell Construction in Winfield and later as secretary for the Winfield First Baptist Church.
On Dec. 24, 1956, she married Ray Cole, a Winfield Courier employee until his retirement. He preceded her in death.
In her late 70s, Cole taught English as a second language to Laotian immigrants who had settled in the Winfield area.
She was a lifetime member of Slate Valley Baptist Church near Oxford and later a member of the First Baptist Church in Winfield. In 1999 she moved to Enid to be near her daughter.
Survivors include a daughter, Doris Ann Ogden Fair, Enid; two stepdaughters, Joann Wood and Dorothy Stevens, both of Wichita; two grandchildren, seven stepgrandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Donald Chambers
SHIDLER, Okla. – Donald L. Chambers, 75, longtime resident of Shidler, Okla., formerly of Arkansas City and Dexter, died June 11, 2002, at the Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax, Okla.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Grandview Cemetery
in Kaw City, Okla. The Rev. Ruth Tipps will officiate.
Burial with military honors will be under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel in Ponca City. Honorary casket bearers will be Vern Robinson, Moose Robertson, Dale Battles and Curtis Orcutt.
Friends may call at the funeral home, 2016 N. 14th, Ponca City, until 9 tonight.
The family will be at the home of James and Teri Turk, 213 Lansbrook, Ponca City.
Chambers was born Aug. 15, 1926, in Arkansas City, to Gladys (Tipton) and Albert Chester Chambers. He attended schools in Dexter. Before graduating from high school, he entered the U.S. Navy on Aug. 19, 1943, and served during World War II.
Following his honorable discharge on Aug. 3, 1947, Chambers returned to Dexter and completed his education. He attended Tulsa Barber College and was a barber in Shidler for many years.
Chambers married Annabelle Fletcher Box. He later married Martha Gray. She died in September 1992.
He was a member of the Shidler United Methodist Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include three sons, John L. Box, Shidler, Larry S. Box, Lebanon, Ohio, and Michael R. Box, Ponca City; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Elva Elsheimer
GRENOLA, – Elva Mae Elsheimer, 89, of Pampa, Texas, formerly of Grenola, died June 10, 2002, in Gastonia, N.C., while attending an Elsheimer family reunion in Locust, N.C.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Grenola Christian Church. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery
in Grenola.
A memorial has been established with Grenola Christian Church. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.
Elsheimer was born Nov. 10, 1912, in Wauneta, to Lona E. (Canon) and Andrew Johnson Richards. She attended school and grew to womanhood in Elk and Chautauqua counties.
On May 12, 1931, the day she graduated from high school, she married Philip A. Elsheimer in Grenola. They made their home in the Grenola community where she was a homemaker. After her husband's death on July 4, 1986, Elsheimer moved to Pampa, Texas, to be near her children.
Elsheimer was a member of the Grenola Christian Church and attended Calvary Assembly of God in Pampa, Texas.
Survivors include a son, Philip Elsheimer, Pampa, Texas; two daughters, Eleanor Mercer, Amarillo, Texas, and Phyllis Harden, Pampa, Texas; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Robert Spencer
ARKANSAS CITY – Robert L. “Bob” Spencer, 68, of Arkansas City, died June 11, 2002, at William Newton Hospital in Winfield.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Blessing Heights Church of God. Pastor Timothy Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Parker Cemetery.
Friends may call on the family at the church from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight.
Memorials may be made to the Blessing Heights Church of God or the American Diabetes Association.

Spencer was born March 30, 1934, in Independence.
He worked 28 years for Rodeo Meats. He also owned and operated Starlight Roller Rink, Spencer's Thrifty Store, Hamburger Shack, Spencer's Shoe and Boot Repair and Bob's Catfish Supplies.
Spencer was a member and usher at Blessing Heights Church of God.
His first wife, Velma Ruth Andrews Spencer, preceded him in death.
On Aug. 23, 1980, he married Lois Harp Miller in Miami, Okla.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Spencer, Arkansas City; four sons, Tom Spencer and Doug Spencer, both of Las Vegas, Nev., Chuck Spencer, Wellington, and Keith Spencer, Arkansas City; three daughters, Michelle Wilson, Scranton, and Debra Edwards and Lynda Neal, both of Arkansas City; two sisters, Charlene Zink, Arkansas City, and Lynda Spencer, Kildare, Okla.; 18 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Alice Wilson
Services for S. Alice Wilson were held at 2:30 p.m. June 13 in the Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. Elder Jim Winzer officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Music included “How Beautiful Heaven Must Be,” “Flowers for Mama” and “Medals for Mama.”
Honorary casket bearers were Tony Moore, Chad Wilson, David Wilson, Patrick Wilson, Alan Wilson and Joe Wilson.
Casket bearers were Richard Wilson, Bill Wilson, Jack Wilson, Dean Wilson, Perry Wilson and Mike Wilson.

Paul Kessinger
MULVANE – Paul E. Kessinger, 85, of Mulvane, died June 11, 2002, in Wichita.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Senter-Smith Mortuary. The Rev. Gary Cox and Dr. Tim Boyd will officiate. Burial will be in Littleton Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Mulvane Senior Citizens Center, 507 N. First Ave., Mulvane, KS 67110.
Kessinger was born Oct. 28, 1916, in Mulvane, to Emma Rozella Myrtle (Schaper) and Clyde E. Kessinger.
A lifelong resident of Mulvane, Kessinger was a farmer, dairyman and stockman.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Senior Citizens Center, Saddle Club and Old Settlers Club, all of Mulvane, and had other agricultural pursuits.
On April 29, 1944, he married Eula M. Shaffer in Mulvane. She died May 25, 1997.
Survivors include two nieces, Rozella Sherman, Udall, and Maudie Roberts, Pond Creek, Okla.; a nephew, Gary Cox, Denton, Texas; and a special friend, Mickie Philpott, Udall.
