STEWARD, Rev. R. Bruce Steward, 70, Atchison, KS passed away Saturday, May 27, 2006 at Medicalodge of Atchison.

Memorial services will be at 7:00 PM Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at Grace Church 4803 St. Joseph Ave. St. Joseph, MO. Family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Inurnment will be at a later date at Bethany Cemetery, Truthville, New York. Memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or the Gideon’s and left in care of Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. 800 Kansas Ave. Atchison, KS 66002.

Rev. Steward was born February 29, 1936 in Trenton, NJ. The son of Thomas Earl and Elizabeth Rose (Brezel) Steward. He attended Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC. Bruce was Pastor at Faith Baptist Church in Boiling Springs, SC, and later Truthville Baptist Church for 16 years in North Granville, NY were he founded the Truthville Christian Academy. He served as minister at Englewood Baptist Temple in Englewood, NJ and served as Pastor Emeritus at Grace Baptist Church in Cape Coral, FL. He authored several published works.

He married Faith Trumbull on June 5, 1960. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include his children Melissa Reeves and her husband Tim of Ft. Myers, FL; T. Isaac Steward of Islip, NY; Emily Adams and her husband Dave of Phoenix, AZ and Faith Christine Davison and her husband John of Atchison. 10 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. Sisters, Elizabeth Kemble of Lambertville, NJ; Lauralee Sechrist of Fort Wayne, IN; Susan Gutheil of Cape Coral FL; and Dawn Adams of Hamilton Township, NJ. Brothers Thomas Steward of Portland, OR; and Isaac Steward of Virginia Beach, VA. and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sisters Adda Owen and Sandra Steward and his parents.

BAKER, Birdie L. Baker, 86, Atchison, KS passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at Atchison Hospital.

Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, May 27, 2006 at Mt. Vernon Cemetery with Rev. Lee Hendon officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church and left in care of Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Baker was born May 27, 1919 in Weston, MO the daughter of Fred W. and Birdie A. (Baker) Everling. She attended Weston Schools. Birdie moved to the Atchison area in 1956. She was a housewife and homemaker. She was a member of the First Christian Church and still attended till her recent illness. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her family.

She married Virgil L. Baker on November 3, 1939 in Bonner Springs, KS. He preceded her in death on September 5, 1999. She was also preceded in death by her parents, 2 sisters and a great granddaughter.

Mrs. Baker is survived by her daughter Janice Carson and her husband Gary; 2 sons Harrison Baker and Ron Baker and his wife Joanne all of Atchison. Six grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

McAdow, Hiram O. “ H.O. McAdow, 88 years old of Atchison, KS. died Tuesday, May 23rd, 2006 at the Atchison Senior Village.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Am on Friday, May 26th, 2005 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, with Rev. Lee Hendon, Pastor of the First Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens, Atchison, KS. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 PM on Thursday, May 25th at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the V.F.W. Post #1175. Condolences to the family may be left on line at www.beckerdyer.com.

Mr. McAdow was born on May 17, 1918 in Atchison, KS. the son of Benjamin B. and Eva (Green) McAdow. He graduated from Atchison High School in 1939. He was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran serving in Company A, 137th Infantry Division. Mr. McAdow had fought in the south pacific and the Guadual Canal. Mr. McAdow worked as the superintendent of the Waste-sewage Treatment Plant for the City of Atchison for many years before retiring in 1980. He also owned and operated the McAdow Collectibles and Antiques for 15 years, was a mechanic and owned his own automotive shop. He was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church, and sang in the choir. He was a life member of the American Legion Post #6, Atchison, and the VFW Post #1175, Atchison, KS., and the Guadual Canal Campaign Veterans. Mr. McAdow was a member of the McDonald’s Coffee Club, Atchison and he enjoyed hunting quail, pheasant, coin collecting, fishing, dancing and traveling. Mr. McAdow donated a baseball signed by every rookie of the year from 1941-1969 to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, PA.

Mr. McAdow was married to Alvena M. Kuhnert on Feb. 22, 1941. She preceded him in death on August 8, 1978. Additional survivors include his companion of 28 years, Ms. Vera Irvin, Atchison and her family; son, Charles and his wife Renee Irvin, Atchison, KS., and daughter; Jean Winchester, Council Bluff, IA., a cousin Harold McAdow, Weston, MO. His parents, wife, and brother; John Benjamin McAdow, preceded him in death.

NEU, Charles W. “Billy” Neu, Jr. 57, Everest, KS passed away Monday, May 22, 2006 at KU Medical Center.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday, May 26, 2006 at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Burial at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7:00-8:30 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and left in care of the funeral home.

Billy was born December 27, 1948 in Atchison, KS the son of Charles W. and Betty (Kuntsman) Neu. He attended Midway Schools in Denton, KS. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. Billy owned and operated B & B Auto Sales and Trucking for a number of years and later operated an auction service with his father. Recently Billy was helping his father on the family farm. Billy was very musically talented and played guitar and sang in a band. He enjoyed being outdoors, going to auctions, gardening and he loved his family.

He married Judy Sherman in October 1971. They are divorced. He is survived by his children Christina “Tina” Neu of Mission, KS; son Ryan Neu of Everest, KS and his father Charles W. Neu, Sr.; step brother Matt Hale of Florida and a step sister Pam Ballew of Bean Lake.

He was preceded in death by his mother Betty Neu and his grandparents.

MARTIN, Lorene L. Martin, 84, Atchison, KS passed away Sunday, May 21, 2006 at Atchison Senior Village.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Ziegler officiating. Burial at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 7:00-8:30 PM Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Trinity Lutheran School Endowment Fund and left in care of the funeral home.

Mrs. Martin was born May 3, 1922 in Lexington, MO the daughter of Claude James and Lilly Mae (Bryan) Raybern. She had attended Trinity Lutheran School and was attending Trinity Lutheran Church. Lorene was employed with Wilson Poultry Plant in Atchison. She was a nurses’ aid for Atchison Hospital and the Mt. Saint Scholastica Convent and worked for Atchison Senior Village in the laundry department for a number of years. Lorene enjoyed working with all types of crafts, fishing and conversing on the CB radio. She had the radio handle of “Blue lady”. She loved her family and especially being around all of her grandchildren.

She married Milburn Martin on June 3, 1941, he preceded her in death in January, 1973. She was also preceded in death by a son Robert in 1984, 3 brothers, 4 sisters, and her parents.

Lorene is survived by her daughter Roberta Coloff and her husband Jack of Ft. Collins, CO. and a son Allen Martin and his wife Karen of Atchison. 10 grandchildren, Bobby Martin, Daryl Martin, Tressa Kemp, Brent Martin, Sherri Luna, Tony Coloff, Tatia Gressly, Jeff Martin, Chris Martin and Julie Wilson. 27 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Sisters Susie Crawford, Catherine Goetler, Geraldine Thomas and Donna Bagby and a brother Charles Raybern.

SPILMAN, Michael Wayne Spilman, 58 years old, of Atchison, KS., died Friday, May 19, 2006 at the Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph, Missouri.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, May 23, 2006 at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Reverend Kenneth Watkins officiating. Mr. Spilman was cremated and burial of cremated remains will follow the service at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at 1:00 PM at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, 800 Kansas Ave. Atchison, KS 66002. Michael W. was born on June 15, 1947 in Atchison, Kansas the son of Wayne H. and Emma Lou (Dimmitt) Spilman. He graduated from Atchison High School. Mr. Spilman worked as a maintenance technician for Atchison Casting for 5 years. He enjoyed racing and working on cars.

He was married to Violet Wolfe on June 1, 2002 in Atchison, KS. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include; ., two daughters; Susan Chitwood, Overland Park, KS., Michelle Stallman, Kansas City, Kansas., two steps sons; Jonathan Lincoln, Lancaster, KS., B.J. Lincoln, Atchison, KS, four brothers; Richard Spilman, Atchison, KS., William Spilman, Effingham, KS., Patrick Spilman, Lewisville, TX., Steve Spilman, Coppers Grove, TX., and one sister; Becky Boyle, Doniphan, KS., Four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. His parents preceded him in death.

WILBURN, Harold P. “Bubba” Wilburn, 44 years old, of Atchison, KS., died Thursday, May 18, 2006 at the Atchison Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, May 22, 2006 at St. Benedicts Church with Fr. Gerard Senecal, OSB officiating. Burial will follow in the Sumner Cemetery, south of Atchison. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 PM on Sunday with visitation to follow until 8: 30 PM at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to assist with final expenses. Harold P. was born on July 24, 1961 in Atchison, Kansas the son of Harold F. and Mary E. (Clem) Wilburn. He attended Atchison grade schools and Atchison High School. Mr. Wilburn was a truck driver for the Ken Pratt Trucking Co., St. Joseph, MO. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and boating on the Missouri River.

Survivors include his common law wife, Chris Myers-Wilburn, of the home, his mother, Mary E. Wilburn, Atchison, father and step-mother, Harold F. and Catherine Wilburn, Horton, KS., a step-son; D.J. Myers, Wichita, KS., two step daughters; Shanna Myers, Atchison, KS., and Christle Myers, St. Joseph, MO., a brother; Earl Wilburn, Atchison, KS., and step brother, Henry Conard, Atchison, KS., three sisters; Mary Rose Tucker, Holton, KS., Phyllis Chapman, Effingham, KS., Kelly Feagins, Pilot Point, TX., several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
