Carson Conaway
Gardner – Carson H. Conaway, 89, of Gardner, formerly of Winfield, died July 28, 2002, at Stratford Commons Assisted Living in Overland Park.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church in Nardin, Okla. Burial will be in Mount Olive Cemetery, Nardin. Friends may call at the church from 10 a.m. to service time. Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner, is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association.
Conaway was born Sept. 12, 1912, in Nardin, to Minnie (Reese) and Charles H. Conaway. He graduated from Deer Creek (Okla.) High School and from Wichita Business College.
On Aug. 30, 1936, he married E. Vivian Sears in Alma, Okla. She died May 28, 1997.
Conaway owned and operated Conaway Realty in Colorado City, Colo. At one time he also owned and operated a home improvement company in Winfield.
He was a past grand master of the Masonic Lodge, a director of the water board and a director of the cemetery board, all in Colorado City.
Survivors include a son, Clifford Conaway, Mahopac, N.Y.; three daughters, C. Martise Cooper, Austin, Texas, Carolyn Hesser, Overland Park, and Janette Sheldon, Gardner; a brother, Lester Conaway, Blackwell, Okla.; a sister, Ruth Quillen, Livingston, Mont.; and seven grandchildren.
John Glasgow
John Fred Glasgow, 76, of Winfield, died July 30, 2002, at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. Burial will be in Tannehill Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home until 8 tonight.
Memorials have been established with the Winfield Police Department Reserve and Hospice Care of Kansas, 800 Main Place, Winfield.
Glasgow was born Sept. 30, 1925, in Winfield, to Hope (Garwood) and Freddie Glasgow.
On Dec. 31, 1946, he married Eldena Carpenter. She died July 30, 1996.
In 1998 he married Bonnie Dutton.
A lifelong resident of Cowley County, Glasgow had owned and operated G & S Drilling Co. since 1959. He also worked for GE.
He was a member of the Kansas Water Well Association.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Glasgow, and two sons, David Glasgow and Steve Glasgow, all of Winfield; a brother, Kenneth Glasgow, Rainbow Bend; and two grandchildren.
Ruth Rundle
PHOENIX – Ruth Darlene Rundle, 85, former longtime resident of Winfield, died July 24, 2002, in Phoenix.
Services were held at 10 a.m. today at Chapel of the Chimes, and burial was in Resthaven Park Cemetery, both in Glendale, Ariz.
A memorial has been established with Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower, Phoenix, AZ 85014.
Rundle and her husband, Earl, moved from Winfield to Phoenix in 1978. Her husband of 61 years had been owner of Rundle Electric in Winfield for over 30 years. He died in 1997. A daughter, Joan McBride, died in 1996.
Survivors include two sons, Gary D. Rundle and Darrell E. Rundle; a sister, Leretha Teter; a brother, Ronald Beery; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Frances Dicken
Frances C. Dicken, 90, of Winfield, died July 29, 2002, at William Newton Hospital.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Grace United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.
Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service until 9 tonight.

Dicken was born Nov. 5, 1911, in San Bonito, Texas, to Brownie (Gauld) and Frank Caldwell. When she was a child, the family moved to Iowa, then to El Dorado where she graduated from high school.
After receiving a teaching certificate from Butler County Community College, she worked in area schools for a time before attending Kansas State University and receiving a bachelor's degree in education.
In 1938 she married Wilburn Dicken in El Dorado. They made their home in Floral where she taught school. In the early 1940s the family moved to New Orleans where her husband took part in the war effort. They moved to Galveston, Texas, in 1946 and returned to Winfield in 1949.
Dicken taught at Stevenson Elementary School until it closed and then at Lowell Elementary School until she retired.
She was a member of the National Education Association, a homemaker extension unit, 4-H and the women's circles at Grace United Methodist Church.
After her husband died Oct. 12, 1993, she moved to Cumbernauld Village.
A son, Jim Dicken, also preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, John Dicken, Winfield; three daughters, Diana Dicken, Seattle, Dorothy Wallace, Cassville, Mo., and Sharon Hosler, Poteau, Okla.; a daughter-in-law, Kaylene Dicken, Newton; a sister, Martha Caldwell, Winfield; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
John Glasgow
Services for John Fred Glasgow were held at 2 p.m. Aug. 1, 2002, in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. The Rev. Rick Hathaway officiated, and Sandy Yount was the organist. Burial was in Tannehill Cemetery.
Honorary casket bearers were Ray Blakey, Gaylord Holman, Mike and Daniel T. Johnson, Tom Berding and Delbert Graham.
Casket bearers were David, Steve, Kenneth and Derek Glasgow, Greg Powers and Tim Brandt.
Memorials have been established with Hospice Inc. of Kansas and the Winfield Police Department Reserves.
Fern Gorham
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Fern Gorham, 92, formerly of Winfield and Rose Hill, died July 31, 2002.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at the Friends Church near Rose Hill. Since both of her husbands added significant joy to her life, some of her ashes will be placed next to each of them.
A memorial has been established with the Northmoor United Methodist Church, 5105 NW Waukomis Drive, Kansas City, MO 64151.
White Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
In her younger years, Gorham lived in Rose Hill with her first husband, Joe Winters. After his death, she married Ray Gorham and lived on a farm north of Winfield.
In 1975, after her second husband's death, she moved to the Kansas City area to be near her son and his family. She had been living at the White Oak Manor care facility for several years.
Survivors include a son, Joe Winters, Kansas City North, Mo.; two grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.
Frances Dicken
Services for Frances C. Dicken were held at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 2, 2002, at Grace United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jerre Nolte officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Keith Anglemyer was the organist. Arlan and Wilma Anglemyer sang “How Great Thou Art,” “The Lord's Prayer” and “ On Eagles' Wings.”
Casket bearers were Dicken's grandchildren, Kevin, Mathew and Sam Dicken, David, Mike and Steve Harbaugh, Andy Hosler and Troy Wallace.
Memorials have been established with Grace United Methodist Church and Cumbernauld Village.
Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
Isabel Gates
BURDEN – Isabel Gates, 89, longtime resident of Burden and Atlanta, died Aug. 2, 2002, at Winfield Rest Haven.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Cemetery
near Atlanta.
Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 9 p.m. Monday.
A memorial has been established with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Gates was born Dec. 13, 1912, in Arkansas City, to Willis and Ida (Blevins) Waite. She received her early education in Arkansas City before moving with her family to Atlanta. She graduated from Atlanta High School in 1928.
On June 11, 1934, she married Harland D. Gates. For many years they made their home on a farm near Atlanta, and she worked as head cook for Atlanta schools and as a nurse's aide at Winfield State Hospital and Training Center.
During the 1960s she attended Butler County Community College and graduated with a degree in nursing in 1968. She worked as a registered nurse at Winfield State Hospital for 10 years before retiring in 1977.
She and her husband moved to Burden in 1979. He died June 8, 1985.
During her retirement, Gates designed and created many quilts that were sold throughout Kansas.
She had resided at Winfield Rest Haven for two weeks.
Gates was a member of the Burden First Baptist Church and was affiliated with the Burden Senior Citizens.
Survivors include two sons, Bob Gates, Winfield, and Bill Gates, Burden, two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Todd Proulx
OXFORD – Todd Allen Proulx, 20, of Oxford, died Aug. 2, 2002, as a result of an automobile accident in Oxford.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Oxford High School. Burial will be in Oxford Cemetery.
Friends may call at Oxford Funeral Service until 8 this evening. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8.
A memorial has been established with the Winfield Inline Hockey team. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Proulx was born April 12, 1982, in Winfield, to Patricia Ann (Dodge) and Armand Roland Proulx. He was raised and educated in Oxford.
Survivors include his mother, Patricia Proulx, Oxford; his father, Armand Proulx, Manchester, N.H.; three brothers, Scott Gill, Winfield, Robert Gill, Arkansas City, and Jeffrey Gill, stationed with the U.S. Army in Germany; three sisters, Kimberly Simmons, El Dorado, Stacy Smith, Wellington, and Kristen Ciavolino, Palm Beach, Fla.; and his grandparents, Florence Dodge, Oxford, and Leon Proulx, Manchester, N.H.
