Brandon Wiesner
HAYSVILLE – Brandon Carl Wiesner, 2 months, of Haysville, died Sept. 2, 2002.
His service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday in Greenwood Cemetery. Resthaven Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his parents, Ernie Lee and Gina Wiesner, and a brother, Garret Ernest Wiesner, all of Haysville; his grandparents, Victor and Carol Wiesner, Wichita, and Nadine Tucker, Haysville; and his great-grandparents, Clara Weber and William and Corinne Stoker, all of Wichita. Among his other relatives is an aunt, Debbie Tucker, Winfield.
Ilene Parsons
ANTHONY – Services for Viola Ilene Parsons were held at 2 p.m. Sept. 3, 2002, at the First Congregational Church, Anthony, and at 4:30 p.m. in Highland Cemetery, Winfield. Dr. Jerry Davenport and Janine Blue officiated.
Jane Warbinton was the organist, and David Warbinton was the soloist.
Honorary casket bearers were David and Zachary Gardner, Mickey Lear and Monty Pierce.
Casket bearers were Wendell, Mike and Greg Gardner, Tim Gill, Matthew Ward and Phil Davenport.
Memorials have been established with the church and Victory in the Valley.
Williams Funeral Home, Anthony, was in charge of arrangements.
Ward Jordan
Ward Jordan, 83, a longtime resident of Winfield, died Sept. 3, 2002, at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center Cemetery. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
Jordan was born Nov. 6, 1918, at Cimarron, to Will and Mary Womack Bottoms Jordan. He resided at Winfield State Hospital for many years until it closed. He then moved to his home in Winfield.
Survivors include a sister, Anabel Bouser, Seibert, Colo.; his guardian, Sue Jean Brooks, Winfield; and staff members and friends at Creative Community Living.
Stella Hoyt
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Stella D. (Piper) Hoyt, 92, formerly of Wilmot and Wichita, died Aug. 31, 2002, at Aspen Living Care Center, Colorado Springs.
Services were to be held today in Colorado Springs and at 10 a.m. Saturday in Highland Cemetery, Winfield.
Miles Funeral Service is in charge of local arrangements.
Tommie Reynolds
Services for Tommie Cene Reynolds were held at 10 a.m. Sept. 4, 2002, at Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Earnest McClure officiated, and burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Marcia Redmon performed “Amazing Grace,” “Precious Lord” and “Going Up Yonder.”
Arvenia Hughes and Patricia Crawford gave the obituary and resolutions, and Tyson Reynolds read a poem.
Honorary casket bearers were LeBaron Baptista Sr., Adolphus Denson, Steve Gragg, Wiley Jackson and Kenneth and Tyson Reynolds.
Casket bearers were Michael Austin, Issac Austin Jr., Jeremy Baptista, Wallace Greer, Robert Reynolds and Eugene Wallace.
A memorial has been established with the Second Baptist Church.
Esther Neubecker
Services for Esther R. Neubecker were held at 10 a.m. Sept. 5, 2002, at Miles Funeral Service. The Revs. Sheila Ratzlaff and David Geisler officiated.
“Amazing Grace,” “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Jesus Loves Me” were sung by Pat Lundy. Maureen Moore was the pianist.
Burial was in Burden Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Joe Couch, Vernon Dennett, Bob Lundy, Don Moore, John Pingry, J.D. Redford, Larry Reed and Larry Tredway.
A memorial has been established with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.
Charlotte Felter
HOWARD – Charlotte Rose Felter, 65, formerly of Severy, died Sept. 5, 2002, at Howard Twilight Manor.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Severy Baptist Church with Pastor Tony Pameticky officiating. Burial will be in South Lawn Cemetery, Severy.
Memorials have been established with the church and Howard Twilight Manor. Contributions may be made through Zimmerman Funeral Home, Howard.
Felter was born Feb. 2, 1937, at Severy, to Albert McQueen and Cynthia Bernice (Sexton) Ambler. She graduated from Severy High School.
On June 3, 1956, she married Earl Harvey Felter Jr. at Severy. He preceded her in death Dec. 30, 1991.
Felter was employed as a cook and waitress in the Severy community for many years.
She moved to Howard Twilight Manor in 2001.
Felter was a member of Severy Baptist Church. She and her husband taught many courses in hunter safety.
Survivors include three daughters, Rose Stephenson, Belle Plaine, Karren Lewis, Hutchinson, and Tammy Egidy, Greeley; two sisters, Evelyn Townsley, Severy, and Mary Billups, Viola; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Robert Doan
Robert Doan, 51, of 10650 102nd, Winfield, died Aug. 29, 2002, at William Newton Hospital.
Private inurnment will take place later in California. Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home is in charge of services.
Doan was born Jan. 1, 1951, in Bethesda, Md., to Herman and Ruth (McGrath) Doan.
After graduating from Mount Diablo High School in Arizona, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He had lived in Winfield for the past year and was employed in maintenance at Winfield IGA.
Survivors include a sister, Cathy Widener, Winfield, and two brothers, Fred Doan, Antioch, Calif., and Raymond Doan, Pleasant Hill, Calif.
Roy Mitchell
Roy W. Mitchell, 88, lifelong resident of Winfield, died Sept. 8, 2002, at William Newton Hospital.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Union Cemetery.
Friends may call until 8 tonight at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home.
A memorial has been established with the First Christian Church.
Mitchell was born Dec. 9, 1913, in Winfield, to Percie E. (Whaley) and William Mitchell. He graduated from Winfield High School in 1933.
On July 30, 1935, he married Mabel M. Kent in Winfield.
Beginning in 1935 he was employed by the City of Winfield and Cowley County until his retirement in 1979. He worked in the street maintenance department, then transferred to sanitation. He then worked at the Cowley County Health Department under Dr. Kelly and eventually became head of the department, the first county health department head in Kansas who was not a doctor.
He had been a member of the First Christian Church since he was 12 years old.
Survivors include his wife, Mabel Mitchell, Winfield; a son, Michael D. Mitchell, McPherson; two daughters, Phyllis Y. Lambert, Arkansas City, and Mary Kay Evans, Winfield; 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Stella Hoyt
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Services for Stella D. Hoyt were held at 1 p.m. Sept. 5, 2002, at Swan-Law Cascade Chapel in Colorado Springs. Pastor John Fuller officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery, Winfield.
Music included “Just a Closer Walk With Thee,” “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” and “Peace in the Valley.”
Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
John Watson
ARKANSAS CITY – John Henry Watson, 78, of Arkansas City, died Sept. 6, 2002, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First Church of God in Christ in Coffeyville. Burial will be at 5 p.m. in Riverview Cemetery
in Arkansas City.
The family will receive friends at Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home Tuesday evening from 6 to 8.
A memorial has been established with the John and Dorothy Watson Fellowship Hall in Coffeyville. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Watson was born April 28, 1924, in Wheatley, Ark., to Lovie (Allmon) and James Watson. He was raised and educated in Arkansas City.
On Oct. 10, 1943, he married Dorothy M. Crawford in Winfield. They made their home in Arkansas City where he was employed by Rodeo Meats Inc. for 37 years. He retired in 1982.
An elder in the Church of God in Christ, Watson had held district and state offices and pastored churches in Wellington and for the past 34 years in Coffeyville.
His wife died Aug. 20, 1999. Two sons, Ronald Watson and John H. Watson Jr., also preceded him in death.
Survivors include two sons, Bruce Watson and Edward “Randy” Watson, both of Arkansas City; four daughters, Maredith Watson, Connie Rowe and Delphia Jennings, all of Arkansas City, and Brenda Hall, McPherson; two brothers, James Watson Jr. and Charles “Chuck” Watson, and four sisters, Lucille Jennings, Viola Watson, Velva Jennings and Arceolla Fields, all of Arkansas City; 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
