Elsie Royse

Services for Elsie Royse were held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. The Rev. Shawn Sturm officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.

June Vasey was the organist. Wilma and Arlan Anglemyer sang.

Casket bearers were Harry Evans, Bill Davis, Robert Barta and Marlyn Harp.

A memorial has been established with the First Christian Church.

Harold Bradford

SALINA – Harold E. Bradford, 85, of Salina, formerly of Winfield, died Sept. 24, 2002 in Salina.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Geisendorf-Rush Smith Funeral Home, 401 W. Iron. Inurnment will be at a later date in Gypsum Hill Cemetery.

Memorials have been established with the March of Dimes and Hospice of Salina.

Bradford was born June 29, 1917, in Coffey County near Sharpe.

On Aug. 3, 1938, he married Aurice Groom in El Dorado.

He worked 35 years for Texaco Oil Co., living in Russell, Zurich and Beaver, Okla., before retiring in 1979. After retiring he and his wife moved to Winfield where he owned Brad's Bicycle Shop for 14 years. In 1999 they moved to Salina.

Bradford was a member of the First Christian Church of Winfield and the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Aurice Bradford, Salina; Two sons, Brother Lawrence Bradford, Atcheson, and Harold R. Bradford, Paradise, Ariz.; two daughters, Karen Lee, Salina, and Shirley Ruda, Atwood; a sister, May Wilson, Fayetteville, Ark.; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Katherine McGuire

DENTON, Texas – Katherine Isely McGuire, 81, of Denton, formerly of Winfield, died Sept. 28, 2002, at her home.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m Saturday at the Denton First United Methodist Church. Mulkey-Mason, Jack Schmitz and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions are requested to the David C. and Katherine Isely McGuire Graduate Music Education Scholarship Fund, Music Development Office, Attn: Elida Tamez, P.O. Box 311250, Denton, TX 76203-1250, or the Maintaining the Vision Fund, First United Methodist Church, 201 S. Locust, Denton, TX 76201.

McGuire was born June 17, 1921, in Dodge City, to Almeda Elizabeth (Cook) and Charles Christian Isely.

In 1943 she earned a bachelor‘s degree in liberal arts from Southwestern College and taught music in Protection, Scott City, Winfield, Ann Arbor, Mich., Brighton, Colo., and Beloit, Wis.

On June 17, 1944, she married David Charles McGuire in St. Augustine, Fla.

McGuire was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Denton. A member of United Methodist Women, she was one of the founders of the United Methodist Women's Annual Taste-In. McGuire was also a founding member of the Women's Interracial Fellowship which pressed the City of Denton to pave roads in southeast Denton in the 1970s. She was also a volunteer driver for several years for the Denton Christian Preschool.

Survivors include her husband, David McGuire, Denton; two sons, David Charles McGuire Jr., Corrales, N.M., and Dr. Timothy Christian McGuire, Denton; a daughter, Susan McGuire Cooksey, Denton; a brother, James Thornton Isely, Olympia, Wash.; and seven grandchildren.

Geraldine Ledesma

WICHITA – Geraldine Ledesma, 66, of Wichita, died Sept. 28, 2002, at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Oxford Cemetery. Pastor Robert L. Ferris will officiate. Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ledesma was born June 27, 1936, to Odessa (Hotchkiss) and Harvey Bell.

Survivors include her companion, Carlos Monarez, Wichita; a son, Phillip Wheeler, Wellington; a daughter, Sherry Graham, Lake Jackson, Texas; four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Maribel Magnusson

UDALL – Services for Maribel Magnusson were held at 2 p.m. Sept. 28, 2002, at the First Congregational Church. The Rev. Steve Ward officiated. Burial was in Mount Vernon Cemetery.

Cora Mettling was the organist. Music included “Amazing Grace” and “In the Garden.”

Honorary casket bearers were Dick Daniels, Earl June and Chet Smith.

Casket bearers were Don Braddy Sr., Harold Doyle, Brian Richardson, Donnie Schueneman, Paul Schueneman and Clay Story.

Memorials have been established with the Udall First Congregational Church and Udall Volunteer Fire Department District 4.

Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Laura Kampschroeder

Laura L. Kampschroeder, 81, of 1320 Wheat Road, Winfield, died Sept. 27, 2002, at William Newton Hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in Wilmot Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home until 9 tonight.

A memorial has been established with Redeemer Lutheran Church of Arkansas City. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Kampschroeder was born May 26, 1921, on a farm near Atlanta, to Ima (Kennedy) and Earl Wallace. The family moved to Latham where she received her early education. She also attended Atlanta High School.

During World War II, she worked as a sheet metal worker at Boeing.

On March 14, 1945, she married Merle Bence in Wichita. They moved to Halstead where she owned a restaurant, Laura's. They resided in Halstead for 28 years before moving to Winfield in 1974. In 1976 she began working at Cessna Aircraft where she was an air corps operator. Mr. Bence died April 20, 1979. She retired from Cessna in 1981.

On Aug. 16, 1982, she married Walter Kampschroeder in Miami, Okla. They made their home on a farm near Newkirk. In February 1996 they moved to Presbyterian Manor in Arkansas City. Mr. Kampschroeder died March 19, 1997.

In May she moved to Good Samaritan Village in Winfield. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church.

Survivors include two brothers, Raymond Wallace, Winfield, and Ralph Wallace, Bella Vista, Ark., and four sisters, Luetta Starkey, Pratt, Delores Johnson, Arkansas City, Dollie Hutto, Winfield, and Lydia Purins, Alberta, Ala.

Ruby Bruner

ARKANSAS CITY – Ruby Ilene Bruner, 81, of Arkansas City, formerly of Winfield, died Sept. 29, 2002, at Medicalodge North Post Acute Care Center.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Hope Cemetery. The Rev. Gary Brown will officiate. Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Bruner was born Nov. 16, 1920, in Cleveland, Okla., to Susan Rozella (Fox) and Emmett Samuel Prouty. She graduated from Winfield High School in 1939.

During the early 1940s she worked at the Ranch Lunch in Winfield. She also worked at McClellan's as a sales clerk with her sister. She later became a full-time homemaker.

On Nov. 10, 1948, she married Jay Charles Bruner in Newkirk. They made their home in Winfield until moving to Arkansas City in 1955.

Bruner was a member of Shelton Beaty American Legion Post 18 Ladies Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband, J.C. Bruner, Arkansas City.

Laura Kampschroeder

Services for Laura L. Kampschroeder were held at 2 p.m. Oct. 1, 2002, in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Mark Boxman officiated. Burial was in Wilmot Cemetery.

Music leaders were Diana Reinolds, Anna Wallace and Terri Schaal. The congregation sang “When the Roll Is Called Up Yonder” and “God Will Take Care of You.” Carlene Wallace performed “Amazing Grace.”

Honorary casket bearers were Mike Johnson, Jeff Wallace and Lloyd Wallace.

Casket bearers were Mark Hutto, Ron Hutto, Darin Oglesby, Keith Wallace, Marty Wallace and Scott Wallace.

A memorial has been established with Redeemer Lutheran Church in Arkansas City.

Raymond Trobaugh

Raymond H. Trobaugh, 70, lifetime resident of Cowley County, died Oct. 1, 2002, at William Newton Hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in Cambridge Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 9 p.m. Friday.

Memorials have been established with the Central Junior-Senior High School FFA and the Winfield High School FFA. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Trobaugh was born April 8, 1932, in rural Dexter, to Bernice Edna (Williams) and Herbert Clinton Trobaugh. He was raised in Dexter where he graduated from high school in 1951. As a young man, he helped run the family farm and raise his younger siblings.

On Sept. 5, 1954, he married Norma Scott in Winfield. They made their home in Burden. When they first married, Trobaugh worked in the oil fields and continued to farm. He was a big supporter of the Burden and Winfield FFA chapters. He also helped establish Rural Water District 5 in Cowley County.

Trobaugh was a member of Burden United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Trobaugh, Burden; two sons, Robert Trobaugh, Burden, and Clint Trobaugh, Winfield; two daughters, Mona Groene, Winfield, and Cheryl Watt, Cambridge; two brothers, Leslie Trobaugh, Dexter, and Kenneth Trobaugh, Eufaula, Okla.; two sisters, Ava Deets, Burden, and Ethel Gates, Winfield; and 10 grandchildren.

Arthur Piper

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Arthur Lee “Art” Piper, 94, of Colorado Springs, formerly of Wilmot, died Sept. 20, 2002, at Pikes Peak Manor.

Services were held Sept. 24 at Swan-Law Funeral Home.

Piper was born June 29, 1908, in Wilmot, to Edith (Sandeburg) and John W. Piper. During World War II he served in the Army Air Corps.

Piper worked at the flour mill in Winfield and at Boeing Aircraft and later owned and operated a taxi company in Winfield before moving to Colorado in 1947.

He married Dorothy Hedges. They owned and operated the Palmer Lake Cafe (lounge, liquor store and cabins) for 23 years. Later he drove a school bus for Lewis-Palmer District 38 for several years.

Piper volunteered for Meals on Wheels and the Acacia Senior Center throughout his 80s. He attended Roswell Community Church and was a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Piper, and a son Dale Piper, both of Colorado Springs; a son, Roger Piper; and several grandchildren.
