Esther Fisher
TOPEKA – Esther P. Fisher, 97, of Edmonds, Wash., formerly of Topeka and Winfield, died Oct. 20, 2002, at her home in Edmonds.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday in Memorial Park Cemetery
in Topeka. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Topeka Free Methodist Church, 3450 SE Indiana.
Friends may call at Penwell Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th, from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Fisher was born Feb. 10, 1905, to Sadie (Pomeroy) and Parkhurst J. Postlewait. As she was growing up, the family lived in several Kansas communities because her father was a pastor.
She graduated from Central Academy in 1923, taught four years in rural Kansas schools and returned to McPherson to graduate from Central Junior College in 1928.
After teaching another two years, she married the Rev. Rolland E. Fisher on June 15, 1930, in Minneapolis.
A homemaker, she resumed her career as a primary grades teacher in Winfield in 1943. She later taught a year in Emporia and seven years in Prairie Village. In 1962 she received a bachelor of education degree from Washburn University. She retired in 1971 after 27 years of teaching, the last seven in Topeka.
Fisher was a lifelong member of the Free Methodist Church.
Her husband died in 1982. She moved to Edmonds several years ago to be near a daughter.
Survivors include two daughters, Joy Hammersla, Edmonds, Wash., and Joan Rogers, Merriam; two sons, George Fisher, Lake Oswego, Ore., and Robert Fisher, Manhattan; a sister, Vera Fields, McPherson; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Martha Condit
Services for Martha Jean Condit were held at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 26, 2002, at the First Christian Church. The Rev. Shawn Sturm officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
Martha Brandenberg was the organist.
Casket bearers were her three grandsons, Chris Reece Nelson, Kevin Reece Nelson and Justin Spooner; and Richard Hopkins, Myron Krupp and Bill Condit.
A memorial has been established with Vitas Hospice, 2501 Parkview Drive, No. 600, Fort Worth, TX 76102.

Thel Self
UDALL – Thel D. Self, 62, of Udall, Boeing computer programmer, died Oct. 29, 2002, at his home.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Watson Funeral Home in Wichita.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Midian Shrine Plane of Mercy.
Thel was a former physics and chemistry teacher in Rose Hill and Andover and at Bishop Carroll High School in Wichita.
He was a member of the Midian Shrine Temple and past president of the Cowley County Shrine Club.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Thel, Udall; a daughter, Lolita Repp, Wichita; and a grandson.
Betty Converse
KINGMAN – Betty J. Converse, 78, homemaker, of Kingman, died Oct. 28, 2002.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Livingston Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hoosier Cemetery.
Memorials have been established with the Ronald McDonald House, the Denver Children's Hospital and the Kingman Christian Church Building Fund.
Converse was born Aug. 16, 1924, near Howard, to Glenys (Nelson) and Allan Rhoades.
She married Everett Russell Converse on Dec. 31, 1944, in Wichita.
Two sons, Michael Converse and Daniel Converse, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Russell Converse, Kingman; three sons, David Converse, Joliet, Ill., John Converse, Wichita, and Charles Hisler, Baltimore, Md.; a daughter, Sue Ellis, Kingman; a stepdaughter, Peggy Drennan, Winfield; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Jeanette Shaffer
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Jeanette Shaffer, 54, former longtime resident of Winfield, died Oct. 26, 2002, in Huntsville.
Spry Funeral Home of Huntsville is in charge of arrangements.
Shaffer was born May 27, 1948, in Pineville, La.
Survivors include two daughters, Tammy Shaffer and Becky Shaffer, and a son, Jacob Shaffer, all of Huntsville; her mother, Elnora Cochren, and a brother, David Shaffer, both of Winfield; three sisters, Geneva Shaffer, Huntsville, Pamie Vough, Wichita, and Tonie Hubbard, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and two grandchildren.
Betty Graham
Services for Betty June Graham were held at 2 p.m. Oct. 29, 2002, in Colonial Chapel of Miles Funeral Service. The Rev. Dr. Allen Polen officiated. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.
June Vasey was the organist. Martin Rude sang “Amazing Grace” and “The Lord's Prayer.”
Honorary casket bearers were Linus Brungardt, Dale Holcomb and Lawrence White.
Casket bearers were Carrol Wray Campbell, Gerald Hittle, Paul Matthew, Steve McArtor, Jerry Norton and Bill Thornton.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Eugene and Betty Graham Scholarship Fund at First United Methodist Church.
John Adams
John Robert Adams, 47, of 1101 Manning, Winfield, died Oct. 26, 2002, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Miles Funeral Service. Burial will be in Caldwell Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday. The family will receive visitors between 7 and 8.
A memorial has been established to help the family with expenses. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Adams was born Sept. 19, 1955, in Jerseyville, Ill., to Jewel (Sullivan) and John Roy Adams. When he was six weeks old, the family moved to Winfield where he was raised and educated.
In 1975 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He later began driving trucks for area companies.
On March 8, 1997, he married Shawn Munday in Arkansas City.
For the last two years Adams worked for Albert Cooper Service Co. in Winfield. He had been a singer and guitarist in Earl Adams' band.
A daughter, Antoinette Marie Adams, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Shawn Adams; a son, J.D. Adams, Lynchburg, Ohio; a daughter, Stephanie Tipton, Winfield; two stepdaughters, Cali Munday and Kristin Hatcher; three brothers, Troy Adams, Crestline, Earl Adams, Winfield, and Joe Adams, Norton; and three sisters, Betty Adams, Parsons, Sandra Clark, Kosciuscko, Miss., and Edie Marsh, Arkansas City.
Robert Dye
WICHITA – Robert “Bob” Dye Jr., 55, of Wichita, formerly of Winfield, died Oct. 28, 2002.
The Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Thursday and services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, both at Resthaven Mortuary.
A memorial has been established with the American Diabetes Association, 837 S. Hillside, Wichita, KS 67211.
Dye was a Wichita Eagle customer service representative.
Survivors include his wife, Conception Dye, a daughter, Resti Dye, and his mother, Betty Louise Dye, all of Wichita; a brother, Gary Lloyd Dye, Arkansas City; and a sister, Ann Dye, Trona, Calif.
Agnes Taylor
UDALL – Services for Agnes Elenora Taylor were held at 2 p.m. Oct. 30, 2002, at the Udall First Baptist Church. The Rev. John Bilyeu officiated. Burial was in Udall Cemetery.
Melanie Regier read the obituary.
Cora Mettling was the pianist. Angie Floyd and Mary Fabin sang “In the Garden” and “I'll Meet You in the Morning.”
Honorary casket bearers were Ora Adams, Gene Beard, Roy Kistler, Hank Morgan, Chris Morgan, Oscar Morton, Clarence Nobles, Jack Nobles, Tommy Rammage and Bruce Umbholtz.
Casket bearers were Robert Adamson, John Blankenship, Shelby Godwin, J.R. Jimeson, Harold Schanbacher and Rod Wilson.
Memorials have been established with the Udall First Baptist Church and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.

Rosa Tasset
SPEARVILLE – Rosa C. Tasset, 80, of Spearville, died Oct. 29, 2002, at Trinity Manor Nursing Home in Dodge City.
A vigil service will be held tonight at 7:30 and a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, both at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. The Revs. Mike Liebl and John J. Maes will officiate. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial contributions to Hospice of the Prairie, Trinity Manor Nursing Home or St. John the Baptist Church, all in care of Burkhart-Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14th, Dodge City, KS 67801.
Tasset was born Jan. 1, 1922, in Ellinwood, to Amelia (Krengle) and William Nall. A lifetime Spearville resident, she was a homemaker and a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and Altar Society.
On Jan. 14, 1947, she married Norbert J. Tasset in Spearville. He died Nov. 14, 1990.
Survivors include a son, Tom Tasset, Spearville; three daughters, Yvonne Richardson, Winfield, Linda Friess, Spearville, and Aleta Paradise, Scottsdale, Ariz.; a brother, Frank Nall, Offerle; a sister, Eleanor Southard, Colorado Springs, Colo.; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
