Misha Davis

Services for Misha Ariann Davis were held at 2 p.m. Nov. 27, 2002, at the First Christian Church. The Rev. Shawn Sturm officiated.

Music included “Across the Universe,” “Sister,” “Fur Elise” and “Violin Concerto No. 5 in D Minor.”

Burial was in Highland Cemetery.

Honorary casket bearers were Clara Wickstrom and Rose Marie (Sengmany) Wise.

Casket bearers were Terri Avery, B.J. Birkle, Grant H. Cole Jr., Randy Kaiser and Jamie and Steve Markley.

Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Phyllis Nichols

Services for Phyllis E. Nichols were held at 10 a.m. Nov. 27, 2002, at Tisdale United Methodist Church. The Revs. Ellie Foster and Reta Joy Campbell officiated.

Arlan and Wilma Anglemyer sang “I Believe in a Hill Called Mount Calvary” and “O, That Will be Glory.” Keith Anglemyer was the organist.

Burial was in New Salem Cemetery.

Honorary casket bearers were Bob and Marge Briscoe, Dorothy Clower, Pauline Miller, Don Roberts, Melvin Ruggles, Ruth Scott, Bob Shaver and LeRoy Wheeler.

Casket bearers were Jess Biddle, Tim Bumgarner, Kevin Howard, Eric Mohlstrom, Derek Nichols and Ty Simmons.

Memorials have been established with Tisdale United Methodist Church and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.

Miles Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.

Michael Rockhold

ARKANSAS CITY – Michael Lynn Rockhold, 45, of Arkansas City, died Nov. 28, 2002, at South Central Kansas Regional Medical Center.

Cremation has been effected. Private services will be held later. Rindt-Erdman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Rockhold was born March 30, 1957, to Rocky and Pat (Elam) Rockhold. He attended Arkansas City schools and lived in Parsons for several years before returning to Arkansas City.

Survivors include his son, Eli Rockhold, Parsons; and his parents, Rocky and Pat Rockhold, two brothers, Duane Rockhold and Drexell Rockhold, and two sisters, Christine Simmons-Martin and Teresa Whitener, all of Arkansas City.

Pauline Foster

MOLINE – Pauline Alice Foster, 92, died Dec. 5, 2002, at Elk Manor in Moline.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home in Winfield. Burial will be in Grenola Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with Elk Manor.

Foster was born Feb. 25, 1910, in Benedict, Neb., to Bessie (Hoffmaster) and Fred C. Wirth. In 1925 the family moved to a farm near Dalton in Sumner County. She, however, chose to live with her maternal grandparents in Springfield, Mo., where she graduated from high school in 1927.

When she was 18, she began working for the Ferguson family in Wellington and became Mrs. Ferguson's traveling companion. She worked for the family from 1928 to 1945.

On June 12, 1945, she married Doyle Foster of Grenola where they established their home. She continued to work part time for the Fergusons and was a caregiver for other children and adults.

Her husband died Jan. 23, 2002.

Survivors include two sisters, Isabel Jones and Blanche Willis, both of Wichita, and a brother, Dean Wirth, Wellington.

Margaret Kirkpatrick

Margaret Opal Kirkpatrick, 89, of Good Samaritan Village, Winfield, died there Nov. 29, 2002.

Cremation has been effected. A memorial service is planned for a later date. Inurnment was at Union Cemetery Dec. 5.

Kirkpatrick was born Feb. 11, 1913, in Winfield, to Grace M. (McCreary) and Charles O. Veach. She graduated from Latham High School.

During World War II, she worked at Boeing. She later worked as a nurse's aide at the Basham Hospital in Eureka.

In 1960 she married W. Charles Kirkpatrick. He died in 1989.

She moved from Eureka to Winfield in 1987.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a brother, Floyd Veach, Thompson Falls, Mont., and a sister, Dorthea Roseman, Algona, Wash.

Pauline Foster

Services for Pauline A. Foster were held at 11 a.m. Dec. 7, 2002, in Swisher-Taylor & Morris Chapel. The Rev. Dr. Steve Rankin officiated. Burial was in Grenola Cemetery.

Music included “Amazing Grace,” “In the Garden” and “Rock of Ages.”

Casket bearers were Foster's nephews and great-nephews.

A memorial has been established with Elk Manor in Moline.

Edna Stayton

MAYFIELD – Edna L. Stayton, 94, of Mayfield, homemaker and former co-owner of Stayton Dairy at Winfield, died Dec. 7, 2002, at Homestead Health Center in Wichita.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Day Funeral Home, Wellington. Burial will be in Osbourne Cemetery, Mayfield.

Friends may call at the funeral home until 9 tonight. The family will be there from 6 to 8.

Memorials have been established with the Mayfield Federated Church, 206 W. Garfield, Mayfield, KS 67103, and Prairie Homestead, 1605 May, Wichita, KS 67213. Contributions may be mailed or made through the funeral home.

Stayton was born March 17, 1908, in Mount Hope, to Grace A. (Morris) and Harvey G. Porter. She graduated from Winfield High School in 1925 and attended Southwestern College and Pittsburg State University. From 1927 to 1930 she taught at the Longbranch rural school near Mayfield.

On June 27, 1930, she married George D. Stayton in Mayfield. From 1930 to 1947 they farmed and had dairy cows. They moved to Winfield in 1948 and ran Stayton Dairy until their retirement in 1972. They returned to Mayfield and lived there until their health failed.

In 1989 they moved to Wichita where her husband died Dec. 31, 1995.

Stayton was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Wichita, and a former member of the First United Methodist Church, Winfield, and the Mayfield Federated Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn Bunyan, Manhattan, and Coralyn Bugg, Clinton, Ky.; a sister, Thelma Porter, Wichita; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Erma Hill

ARKANSAS CITY – Erma Mae Hill, 85, of Arkansas City, died Dec. 6, 2002, at her daughter's home in Shawnee, Okla.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Geuda Springs Cemetery.

Friends may call at Oxford Funeral Service until 8 tonight and from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday.

A memorial has been established with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Hill was born Sept. 13, 1917, in Geuda Springs, to Ollie Maggie (Patterson) and Frank Dayton Brock. She was raised in the Geuda Springs area.

She and her first husband, Elmer Franklin Syfert, had one daughter, Virginia Mae, who died as an infant. Mr. Syfert died in April 1936.

On Oct. 25, 1937, she married Pete Lee Hill in El Dorado. They lived in Newkirk for a short time before settling in Arkansas City. He died Nov. 13, 1965.

Hill worked as a seamstress in her early years. She was a nurse's aide at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita and for several years was a foster grandparent at Winfield State Hospital & Training Center until she retired in 1994.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Survivors include three daughters, Ella May Lumley, Arkansas City, Marchel Hill, Shawnee, Okla., and Marci Hyatt, Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Harry Brock, Belle Plaine; a sister, Louise Roe, Grenola; nine grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and 23 great-great-grandchildren.

Sheldon Duncan

Sheldon M. Duncan, 84, formerly of Burden and Atlanta, died Dec. 8, 2002, at Winfield Rest Haven.

Cremation has been effected. A private service will be held later. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Duncan was born May 16, 1918, in Atlanta, to Bertha (Reeves) and George Edward Duncan. He was raised in Atlanta and graduated from Atlanta High School. In 1938 he began working as an operator at a Texaco refinery.

On Oct. 4, 1939, he married Martha Brooks in Winfield. They made their home in Burden.

A veteran of World War II, Duncan served in the U.S. Army.

In 1979 he retired from Texaco following 41 years of service, and he and his wife moved to Weslaco, Texas. She died Dec. 23, 1995.

Duncan returned to Winfield in 1996 to be close to his family. He had resided at Rest Haven since February.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Weslaco.

Survivors include a daughter, Gale Tredway, Winfield; three brothers, Ray E. Duncan, Chickasha, Okla., Wayne W. Duncan, Wichita, and Dale D. Duncan, Fair Play, Mo.; two sisters, Frieda Brown, Bixby, Okla., and Phyllis Mock, Ponca City; one grandson and one great-grandson.

Iva Schmidt

Services for Iva J. Schmidt were held at 11 a.m. Dec. 9, 2002, in Highland Cemetery. The Rev. Danny Ginn officiated. Music was “In the Garden.”

A memorial has been established with Alzheimer's and Related Illnesses.

Swisher-Taylor & Morris Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
