William L. Dysart
April 7, 1928 - Aug. 10, 2006

William L. Dysart, 78, Paola, formerly of Parker and Holton, Kan., died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2006, in Paola.

He was born April 7, 1928, in Parker, the son of Walter R. and Neva L. Lemon Dysart. Known as "Bill," he grew up in Parker and was a 1946 graduate of Parker Rural High School. He attended Kansas State University for one year.

He and Elma Maxine Lee were married Aug. 15, 1948, in Centerville. They made their home in and around Parker for 27 years and became the parents of two sons. They moved to Holton in 1975 where they lived until moving to Paola in 1990.

Mr. Dysart was a farmer, raising cattle, hogs and various crops. In 1970, he went to work for Farm Credit Services out of Ottawa, a position that took him to Holton. In the late 1980s, he worked at the Citizens Bank in Appleton City, Mo. In the early 1990s, he went to First Bank of Butler, Mo., where he was president. His retirement came in 1992.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Paola and of Parker Masonic Lodge No. 341, A.F.&A.M.,where he had served as master and district deputy grand master. He was a life member with a 32nd degree of the Scottish Rites of Fort Scott. Other memberships included the Holton Lions Club where he had served as president and of the Order of the Eastern Star, where he was a life member.

His most passionate hobby was farming, but he also enjoyed playing golf.

Survivors include his wife, Elma Dysart of the home; two sons, David Dysart of Louisburg and Fred Dysart of Netawaka, Kan.; his sister, Joy Wentworth of Clarinda, Iowa; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services were Monday in Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie. Burial was in Elm Grove Cemetery at Cadmus. Pallbearers were David Dysart, Tabitha Dysart, Susan Dysart Kneedler, Chris Kneedler, Jacob Dysart, Valerie Dysart and Jamie Dysart.

Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels or Parker Masonic Lodge No. 341 in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 430, Osawatomie, KS 66064.

James E. Finney
June 22, 1937 - Aug. 7,2006

James E. Finney, 69, Greeley, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006, in Greeley.

He was born June 22, 1937, in Independence, Kan., the son of Carl Chester and Vivia J. McClure Finney.

When he was six years old, he moved to southern California in the San Fernando Valley and Saugus. He and his family had returned to Greeley in 1988.

After serving in the U.S. Army, he worked as a police officer for a few years before working in the automotive service industry and as a driver of charter and school buses.

He was an excellent vocalist and was involved in the churches he attended.

On Aug. 22, 1959, he married Carol Ann Shelley. They became the parents of three children before their marriage ended in divorce. She preceded him in death.

He and Jackie Rutherford were married June 13, 1981, in Saugus, Calif. After retiring, they opened their home to 13 foster children and later adopted four of those children.

Mr. Finney was a handyman and always found projects to keep himself busy.

Those preceding him in death included a sister, Ginger Finney; a brother, Daniel Robert Finney; two sons, Steven Daniel Finney and D'Ron Finney; and two daughters, Jessica Michelle and Heidi Issler.

Survivors include his wife, Jackie Finney of Greeley; two sons, Daniel Finney of Garnett and Jalaani James Finney of the home; two daughters, Shelley Clark of Royse City, Texas, and Alisha Lynn Finney of the home; a stepdaughter, Sue Kent of Acton, Calif.; two stepsons, Jerry Rutherford of Greeley and John Rutherford of Ellsworth, Kan.; two brothers, Tom Finney of Manhattan and David Finney of southern California; a sister, Mary J. Plum of Waterville, Kan.; and 12 grandchildren.

Services were Friday in Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel in Garnett and burial was in Greeley Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to a fund to help defray funeral expenses in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 408, Garnett, KS 66032.

Idona Marie Hahn
Oct. 3, 1934 - Aug. 5, 2006

Idona Marie Hahn, 71, Osawatomie, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2006, in Olathe Medical Center.

She was born Oct. 3, 1934, in Osawatomie, the daughter of Elmer Horton and Lillian Eliza Hearn Fouts. She attended Osawatomie schools.

On May 21, 1950, she and Jay W. Hahn were married in Osawatomie. At the time of their marriage, he was stationed with the U.S. Air Force at Fairchild AFB in Spokane, Wash. After his discharge, they made their home in the Osawatomie community and became the parents of four children.

Mrs. Hahn worked as an aide in the late 1950s and early 1960s at the Osawatomie State Hospital. In the late 1960s she worked for about four years in transportation for the Social Rehabilitation Services. She then worked in the 1970s as a teacher's aide at Lakemary Center in Paola. After that she worked for about five years as a nurses' aide at Heritage Manor in Osawatomie. Her last employment was with the Osawatomie Community Senior Service Center in transportation from 1980 until 1988.

Mrs. Hahn was a compassionate person who loved helping people. This was evident in the fact that she and her husband were foster parents and she always seemed to pursue jobs involving the care of people.

She also enjoyed reading.

Those preceding her in death was her husband, who died in 1988, and one sister, Nancy Jane Windler.

Survivors include her daughter, Denise Waln of Independence, Mo.; three sons, David Jay Hahn and Mark T. Hahn, both of Osawatomie, and Michael T. Hahn of Valley Falls, Kan.; two brothers, Clay Fouts of Phoenix, Ariz., and Bill Fouts of Osawatomie; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services were in Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie. Burial was in Osawatomie Cemetery. Pallbearers were David Hahn, Michael Hahn, Mark Hahn, Steve Waln, David Hahn Jr. and Manny Worrell. Honorary pallbearers were Gary Fouts, Kevin Fouts and Clinton Fouts.

Robert Bruce Helms Jr.
Jan. 7, 1920 - Aug. 7, 2006

Robert Bruce Helms Jr., 86, Bella Vista, Ark., a native of Osawatomie, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2006, in St. Mary's Hospital in Rogers, Ark.

He was born Jan. 7, 1920, in Osawatomie, the son of Robert Bruce Helms Sr. and Frances Casto Helms. He graduated in 1937 from Osawatomie High School and was a graduate of Ottawa University and White Institute of Automotive Engineering and Design in Cleveland, Ohio.

During the first half of World War II, he was a general foreman of production control for the North American B-25 Bomber Plant in Kansas City, Mo. During the last half of the war, he was a group leader in Petal Lot Engineering for Pratt and Whitney Engine Plant in production of the 1800 HP Corsair Navy Fighter Plane Power Plant.

Most of his working years were spent in management positions with various truck manufacturers and he retired in 1985 from Freightliner Corp. At that time he moved to Bella Vista.

He married Carmelita M. Bailleres in 1948 in Bentonville, Ark. She died in 1985.

He and Bertha M. Aroy were married in 1991 and she died in 2001.

Mr. Helms was a member and deacon of the Bella Vista Community Church. He was a member of the Order of De Molay and reached his 50 years of membership in 1995 in Osage Valley Lodge No. 24, A.F.&A.M., where he was the third generation in his family to be a member. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite in St. Joseph, Mo.

He enjoyed traveling, sailing and anthropology, in which he had taken four courses at the University of Arkansas since retiring.

Survivors include his son, Robert Bruce Helms III of Tampa, Fla.; one granddaughter; and two great-grandsons.

Burial will be in the Osawatomie Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bella Vista Funeral Home and Crematory, 2258 Forest Hills Blvd.

Flossie Jean Amick
Aug. 30, 1925 - Oct. 18, 2006

Flossie Jean Amick, 81, Raytown, Mo., died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2006, in the home of her daughter in Raytown.

She was born Aug. 30, 1925, in Mound City, the daughter of Chesley and Esther Whitson Mathews. She married David Dean Amick on Sept. 9, 1945. After serving 45 1/2 years in the Salvation Army, they retired as majors.

Those preceding her in death were two brothers, Joe Mathews of Santa Ana, Calif., and Harold Mathews of Fulton, Kan.

She is survived by her husband, Dean Amick of Raytown; three sons, David Amick of Abingden, Ill., James Amick of Keokuk, Iowa, and Sam Amick of Eureka, Ill.; one daughter, Debbie McCluer of Raytown; four brothers, Allan Mathews of Picher, Okla., Thurman Mathews of Marion, Ohio, Richard Mathews of Wheatland, Mo., and Neal Mathews of Pleasanton; two sisters, Virginia Wilson of Pittsburg, and Esther Stanbrough of Mound City; 25 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Services were Oct. 21 in the Salvation Army Church in Independence, Mo. Burial was at Green Lawn Cemetery, Kansas City, Mo.

Louie Frances Bolen
Sept. 13, 1919 - Nov. 4, 2006

Louie Frances Bolen, 87, Osawatomie, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2006, in the Good Samaritan Center in Olathe.

Known as "Linna," she was born Sept. 13, 1919, in Osawatomie, the youngest of the four children of George and Ida Naomi Long Lee. She attended Osawatomie schools, graduating in 1938 from Osawatomie High School.

On March 14, 1942, she married James Marion Bolen. They made their home in Cherryvale, Kan., and became the parents of nine children. The family moved to Osawatomie in the mid 1940s.

Mrs. Bolen worked at the Osawatomie State Hospital for many years. She began worked at OSH in August 1956 and worked as a psychiatric aide until April 1978. At that time she became a licensed mental health technician. She resigned in May 1978 after suffering a stroke and becoming disabled.

In her younger years, she was active in the Order of the Eastern Star.

Those preceding her in death were her husband, who died May 1, 1991; three brothers; a daughter, Marian Carol, who died at the age of 4; an infant granddaughter, Michelle McIntosh; and a grandson, Jeff Bolen.

Survivors include three sons, James M. Bolen Jr. of Junction City, Kan., William L. Bolen of Dublin, Ga., and Charles A. Bolen of San Diego, Calif.; five daughters, Bessie J. Kilgore of Dublin, Colleen Berry of Osawatomie, Lois Anglen of Branson, Mo., Idris Dougherty of Iola, Kan., and Martha McIntosh of La Cygne; 18 grandchildren; and 34 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Beagle Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 Thursday night in Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie.

Memorials may be made to the Johnson Cancer Center at Kansas State University in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 430, Osawatomie, KS 66064.
