Lorriene E. Wilhoite
MARCH 18, 1920 - DEC. 26, 2003

Lorriene E. Wilhoite, 83, a Paola native, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, in the Presbyterian Manor Nursing Home in Kansas City, Kan.

She was born March 18, 1920, in Paola, the daughter of Arthur and Maggie Orr Wilson. She attended Paola High School.

She married Azzol Wilhoite in Chicago, Ill. They were married for more than 40 years at the time of his death.

Mrs. Wilhoite worked as a bookkeeper for the city of Chicago for more than 30 years.

A daughter, Beverly Shelton, and a brother, A.J. Wilson, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include a sister, Delores VanTrece of Kansas City, Kan.; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Wilson and Son Funeral Home in Paola.

Robert Jay Rose
Robert Jay Rose, 86, Lenexa, the father of Barbara Hilton of La Cygne, died Dec. 28, 2003.

Ruth Maxwell Irick
Ruth Maxwell Irick, 87, Brookfield, Mo., a native of Linn County, died Dec. 22, 2003 in a Kansas City hospital.

Susan Diane Block
Susan Diane Block, 47, Maramec, Okla., a Paola native, died Dec. 14, 2003. Survivors include her mother, Naomi Block Wiseman, formerly of Paola and now a resident of Cleveland, Okla.

Herbert Milton Hogue
NOV. 7, 1939 - DEC. 30, 2003

Herbert Milton Hogue, 64, Osawatomie, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, in Olathe Medical Center.

He was born Nov. 7, 1939, in Scottsville, Ky., the fourth of the five children of Herbert Pace and Bertha Lee Smalling Hogue. He attended schools in Scottsville and graduated from high school in 1957.

He served his country with the U.S. Air Force from 1958 until 1965. He received the Air Force longevity service award and the good conduct medal.

Three children were born to he and his first wife. During their marriage the family moved around due to his military service. The marriage ended in divorce in 1978.

On April 27, 1979, he and Patricia Ann Greene DeGraeve were married in Paola and they made their home in Osawatomie. They became parents of four children.

After leaving the military service, he was employed in police work. He worked in the Franklin County Sheriff's Department in Ottawa, Johnson County Sheriff's Department in Olathe and the Miami County Sheriff's Department. He was a member of Osawatomie Department of Public Safety from 1981 through November 1994, when he retired due to medical reasons. He remained on the Osawatomie Police Department as a reserve officer after his retirement.

Mr. Hogue was a member of the Faith Christian Church in Osawatomie and a former member of the Masons, Kansas Peace Officers Association and American Legion.

Those preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, Gerald and Paul.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Hogue, three children, Judith Cook, Steven DeGraeve and Aaron Hogue, and one grandchild, Devin DeGraeve, all of the home; three other children; two brothers, Noble Hogue of Bowling Green, Ky., and Alvin Hogue of Scottsville; and many grandchildren.

Services were Saturday in Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home in Osawatomie with military honors. The family received friends immediately after the service.

Cecil Holt
MARCH 22, 1913 - JAN. 1, 2004

Cecil Holt, 90, Kansas City, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2004.

He was born March 22, 1913, near Farlinville, Kan., the son of Lawrence and Mae Holt.

He received his law degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and worked for the Social Security Administration for 36 years.

After retiring in 1973, he spent his time traveling and gardening.

Survivors include his wife of more than 60 years, Nellberta Holt; two daughters, Frances Austin of Chesterfield, Mo., and Karen Beth of Overland Park; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Holt willed his body to the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan.

Services will be held later.

Mary L. Mebane
JUNE 29, 1947 - DEC. 30, 2003

Mary L. Mebane, 56, a former Paola and Osawatomie resident, died unexpectedly of a heart attack Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2003, in her home in Kansas City, Mo.

The daughter of Wilson Harris Sr. and Leona Lee Harris, she was born June 29, 1947, in Arkansas.

She lived in the Paola and Osawatomie areas in the 1960s.

She enjoyed crafts and sewing.

She was retired from Sprint.

Survivors include five children; two brothers, Pinkey Walker Sr. of Osawatomie and Wilson Harris Jr.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday prior to service time at 2:30 p.m. in Lawrence A. Jones and Sons Linwood Chapel. Cremation.

Contributions may be made to the Mary L. Mebane Memorial Fund in care of the chapel, 1800 E. Linwood Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64109.

Ferne Snider
MARCH 2, 1897 - JAN. 3, 2004

Ferne Snider, 106, Pleasanton, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, in Prescott Country View in Prescott.

She was born March 2, 1897, in Oakwood, Kan., the daughter of Charles S. and Martha Ann Jones Lambert.

She taught school in the Round Mound School for several years.

Her husband, Ralph Snider, preceded her in death Oct. 3, 1976.

Mrs. Snider was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a charter member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 862 Auxiliary, both in Pleasanton.

Survivors include a daughter, Mildred Scott; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Services were Tuesday in the church, followed by burial in Battlefield Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the VFW Auxiliary in care of Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home, P.O. Box 525, Pleasanton, KS 66075.

Chris Wayne Vail, 45, Butler, Mo., the nephew of Herman Vail of Osawatomie and Vivian Bright of Pleasanton, died Jan. 2, 2004.

F.L. "Phil" Chamberlin
F.L. "Phil" Chamberlin, 85, Garnett, the father of Gregory Chamberlin of Spring Hill, died Dec. 25, 2003.

Virginia R. Clark
Virginia R. Clark, 84, Kansas City, Mo., the mother of Ruth Clark of La Cygne, died Dec. 31, 2003.

Johnnie Brockman
Johnnie Brockman, 90, a former Paola resident and the mother of Ted Billingslea of Paola, died Jan. 2, 2004 in Village Manor Retirement Center in Ottawa.

Darrell Dee Johnston
Darrell Dee Johnston, 67, Edgerton, a brother of Don Johnston of Paola, died Dec. 30, 2003 in his home in rural Miami County.

Gerald B. Price Sr.
Gerald B. Price Sr., 78, longtime Spring Hill resident and a Hillsdale native, died Jan. 3, 2004 in his home.

Carolyn S. Ford Skinner
Carolyn S. Ford Skinner, 71, Yuma, Ariz., a former Paola resident, died Dec. 25, 2003 following a long illness suffering with lung disease.

Leslie Ross Stewart
Leslie Ross Stewart, 48, died unexpectedly of a heart attack Jan. 3, 2004 in his home in Miami County near Edgerton.
