LOPEZ: Eleno Lopez, 86, of Atchison, KS died Friday, October 19th, 2007 at the Atchison Medicalodge.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007 at St. Benedict’s Church with Father Gerard Senecal, OSB, as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A parish rosary will be recited at 6:30 PM, Monday, October 22nd, 2007 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 8:00. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Mexican Nuns of Leavenworth and may be left in care of the Funeral Home. Condolences to the family may be left online at www.beckerdyer.com.

Eleno was born August 18, 1921 in Deerfield, KS the son of Bonifacio and Maria (Salas) Lopez. He attended school in the Deerfield area. Mr. Lopez is a World War II and Korean War Army veteran. Eleno worked as a quality assurance representative for the U.S. Department of Defense for 40 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council and the American Leagion. Mr. Lopez was employed by the Defense Logistics Agency in Atchison for 12 years before retiring in 1996. Eleno enjoyed reading, walking, exercising and watching baseball and softball.

On October 30, 1941 Eleno married Cuca Reyes in Deerfield, KS, she survives of the home. Additional survivors include 4 sons; Eleno Lopez, Santa Maria, CA, Paul Lopez, Atchison, KS, William Lopez, Kansas City, MO, and Philip Lopez, St. Joseph, MO; two brothers, one sister and 3 Grandsons; Anthony Lopez, Kansas City, MO, and Wesley and Taylor Lopez, St. Joseph, MO.

Mr. Lopez was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers and one sister.

WELCH: Tammy Lynn Welch, 49 years old, of Cummings, KS. died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007 at the Heartland Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph, Mo.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, Oct. 22nd, 2007 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, with Rev. Robert Ziegler officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Atchison, KS. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 PM on Sunday, Oct. 21st at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to either the Trinity Lutheran School Sponsorship Program or the Technology Fund. Condolences to the family can be left online at www.beckerdyer.com

Tammy Lynn Welch was born November 29, 1957 in Lawrence, KS., the daughter of Theodore J. and Jewell (Williamson) Sulzen, Sr. She graduated from Seaman High School, Topeka, KS., and attended Certified Nurse’s Aide Training from the Northeast Kansas Area Vo-Technical School, Atchison. Tammy worked as a certified nurse’s aide for the Mount Saint Scholastica Convent for ten years. She had also worked as an over the road truck driver with her husband for six years. Mrs. Welch also was a bus driver for USD 409 and was an associate at Wal-Mart. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and enjoyed gardening, bowling and cooking.

She was married to Phillip E. Welch on September 22nd, 1978 in Miami Oklahoma, he survives of the home. Additional survivors include a daughter Marie and her husband Rick Johnston, Atchison, KS. Three step-sons Brian Welch, Chandler, OK. Brandon and his wife Christine Welch, Cummings, KS. Jeff Welch, Cummings, KS. A brother Ted Sulzen of Greer, SC. Eleven Grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

JOHANNING: Mary Lea Johanning, 27 years old, of Overland Park, KS., formerly of Atchison, KS. died Tuesday, October 16th, 2007 at Kansas University Medical Center, Kansas City, KS.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, Oct. 21st, 2007 at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. John Watson officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Atchison, KS. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7:30 PM on Saturday, Oct. 20th, 2007 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Kidney-Cancer Association for Research. Condolences to the family may be left on line at www.beckerdyer.com.

Mary Lea Johanning was born on Sept. 24, 1980 in Lawrence, KS. the daughter of Marlin and Mary (Staib) Johanning. She was a 1999 Atchison High School graduate, earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology, and her Specialist Degree in Education, both from the University of Kansas, Lawrence. She was presently working as a school Psychologist for the Olathe School District. Miss Johanning was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Atchison, KS., a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority, the National Education Association, Kansas and National Associations of School Psychologists, a member of the Mortar Board of Kansas University, and a member of Big Brothers, Big Sisters, of Kansas City.

Survivors include her parents, Marlin and Mary Johanning, Atchison, KS., two brothers; Chad Johanning, M.D. and his fiancée, Meredith Seitz, Atchison, Kansas, Chris Johanning, Atchison, KS., a sister; Lilli Johanning, Overland Park, KS.,

EVANS: Kenneth W. “Bud” Evans, 71 years old, of Everest, KS died Tuesday, Oct. 16th, 2007 at the Horton Hospital unexpectedly.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, Oct. 20th, 2007 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, with Rev. Stephen Lucas officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Atchison, KS. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 PM on Friday at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Kenneth W. Evans was born on June 7, 1936 in Atchison, KS the son of Andrew and Christina (Robbins) Evans. Mr. Evans worked for over thirty years in the road maintenance department for the Washington Township, Brown County, KS. He retired in 2005. Mr. Evans enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and carpentry.

He was married to Anita Sinclair on June 7, 1960. Mrs. Evans survives of the home in Everest. Additional survivors include two sons; Darrel Evans, and Donald Evans, both of Huron, KS, a daughter; Diane Evans, Topeka, KS, his mother, Christina Evans, Nortonville, KS., a brother; Jack Evans, Scio, OR; five sisters; Donna Harter, Albany, OR, Anna Lee Kirkham, Cummings, KS, Dorothy Sferlazza, Dallas, OR, Vivian Hamilton, Huron, KS, and Rosy Nollen, Turner, OK, and a granddaughter; Kahla Evans, Topeka, KS.

YEIGH: Pauline “Patty” Melinda Yeigh, 85, Atchison, KS passed away Monday, October 08, 2007 at Medicalodge of Atchison.

Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, October 11, 2007 at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 AM at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Loaves and Fishes at St. Mark’s Lutheran Chuch and may be left in care of the funeral home. Mrs. Yeigh was born August 31, 1922 in Atchison, KS the daughter of Clarence “Hap” and Pauline (Nestler) Hansen. She attended Atchison High School and was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church and the VFW. Patty had worked for Wilson Poultry and the Elks Club as a fry cook. She retired in 1990 after 30 years with Saunders Manufacturing. She enjoyed word puzzles, crocheting doilies, house plants and her cats. She especially loved spending time with her family.

She married Ernest F. Yeigh in 1939, he preceded her in death in 1961. A son-in-law Everett Winzer, brother Clarence “Hap” Hansen and her parents also preceded her in death.

Patty is survived by her daughter Linda Winzer of Atchison; sister Gladys “Peachie” Bewley of Atchison; brother Ernest R.E. Hansen and his wife Lurena of Shannon, KS; a special niece Myrna McConnaughey and additional nephews and nieces.

BOYLE: Helen A. Boyle, 89, Atchison, Kansas, passed away Sunday, October 7th, 2007 at the Atchison Hospital.

Memorial services will be 2:00PM on Friday, October 12th, 2007 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Pastor Stephen Lucas, Faith Bible Fellowship, officiating. A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the funeral home. The body has been cremated. Burial will follow in the Doniphan Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetes Association and may be left in care of the funeral home. Helen A. Koch was born on March 28, 1918 in Centralia, Kansas, the daughter of Andrew Hubert and Della Alberta (Swan) Koch. She attended school at Centralia and Seneca. Helen enjoyed her family dearly. She also liked working in the garden, canning, raising chickens, and cooking big meals for her family.

Helen married Earl Boyle on December 5, 1939 at the United Methodist Church in Atchison. He preceded her in death on May 14, 1994. Survivors include a son, Gary Boyle and his wife Becky, Atchison, KS; 4 Grandchildren; Rhonda Schneider and her husband Tony; Gerald Boyle and his wife Julie; Patrick Boyle and his wife Lisa; Andrew Boyle and his friend Shirlee; 11 Great-grandchildren and 1 Great-great grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Hubert Koch.

LANE: John Drimmel Lane, 84, Nortonville, KS passed away Sunday, October 7, 2007 at his home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at St. Joseph Church, Nortonville, KS. Burial at Nortonville Cemetery. A parish rosary will be said at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, at the O’Trimble Funeral Home, Nortonville, KS followed by a visitation until 8:30 P.M. Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Joseph Church or the Huntington’s Disease Society of America and may be left in care of the funeral home. Mr. Lane was born January 14, 1923 in Atchison County, the son of Joseph and Josephine (Drimmel) Lane. He was a farmer for most of his life and was employed with Rockwell for 14 years. John was also employed with Farmer Supply and Village Villa Nursing Home in Nortonville. He was a member of the St. Joseph Church and the Knights of Columbus and served as State Treasurer. John enjoyed playing cards, golfing, and going to the casino, he especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

He married Vera Hoffman on November 30, 1944 at St. Benedict’s Church in Atchison, KS. She preceded him in death on December 8, 1995. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Ed, Herb and Joe Lane, a sister Dorothy Lane and his parents.

Survivors include his daughter Melody Spencer and her husband Sarge of Leavenworth, KS; sons Ronald Lane and his wife Mollie of Valley Falls, KS; and Gary Lane and his wife Ann of Paradise Valley, AZ. 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
