Glenn McMillan
OCT. 27, 1922-OCT. 18, 2004

Glenn McMillan, 81, Garnett, died Monday, Oct. 18, 2004, in Anderson County Long Term Care Facility.

The son of Harlan and Jessie Mae Johnson McMillan, he was born Oct. 27, 1922, in Garnett. He grew up in Garnett and was a graduate of Garnett High School.
He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of World War II, having served in New Guinea in the South Pacific.

Before retiring from United Construction of Kansas City, he operated heavy equipment and worked in road construction. After retiring, he drove a truck for Day Windows and last worked as a truck driver for Gene Hermreck.

He and Edith Ewers were married Dec. 29, 1969, in La Junta, Colo.

Mr. McMillan was a member of Delphian Lodge No. 44, A.F.&A.M., and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 6397, both of Garnett; Mirza Shrine in Pittsburg; and Scottish Rite in Fort Scott.

Those preceding him in death were a sister, Bonnie Mae Crist, and an infant child, Daniel Lee McMillan.

Survivors include his wife, Edith McMillan of Garnett; four sons, Glenn McMillan Jr. of Texas, Dennis McMillan of Houston, Texas, Roy Gene Pine of Princeton, and Joe Pine of Oklahoma; four daughters, Glenda Phillips of El Dorado, Kan., Pauline Salmon of Massachusetts, Earline Nelson of Iola and Debra Davis of Corpus Christi, Texas; one brother, Kenneth McMillan of Garnett; 16 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Services were today in Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel in Garnett, followed by burial in Garnett Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Shriners Crippled Children's Hospitals in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 408, Garnett, KS 66032.

Waldo W. Poovey
JUNE 11, 1916-OCT. 13, 2004

Waldo W. Poovey, 88, Westphalia, Kan., died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, in his home.

He was born June 11, 1916, in Oxford, Kan., the son of Weaver and Sallie Bussard Poovey. After graduating from Oxford High School in 1934, he earned a bachelor of science in animal husbandry from Kansas State University in 1938.

He was a farmer/stockman and had served as state director of the Kansas Livestock Association. He was one of the organizers of the Kansas Purebred Sheep Association.

Mr. Poovey was a member of the Anderson County Fair Association and Rural Water District No. 2 board of directors.

Survivors include his wife, Ethel L. Green of the home; two sons; two siblings; and two grandchildren.

Services were Saturday in Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel, followed by burial in Cherry Mound Cemetery in Westphalia.

Memorials may be made to the Anderson County 4-H Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 408, Garnett, KS 66032.

Eugene W. Moon
AUG. 21, 1930 - NOV. 29, 2004

Eugene W. Moon, 74, Paola, died Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, in Dwight D. Eisenhower Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Leavenworth.

Known as "Gene," he was born Aug. 21, 1930, in Paola, the son of Winton Hubert and Lennie Mae Ring Moon. He lived in Kansas City, Mo., during his grade-school years. The family then moved to North Long Beach, Calif., where they lived for 12 years. His parents later divorced and he spent some time with his father in Oklahoma.

He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served from 1948 to 1952 and was based in Alaska. He was then self-employed and owned his own drywall business.

He married Virginia Black in 1952 and they became the parents of a daughter, Katherine. Their marriage ended in divorce. He then married Virginia Nell Hunt on March 5, 1955, and they became the parents of a daughter, Jeannie Mae, and a son, Bobby Gene. Their marriage also ended in divorce.

His hobbies included fixing things, riding horses, fishing and making crafts.

He had a collection of eagles given to him by his mother. He was known for his ability to communicate with horses and calm them down.

He was a member of Sheldon-Banta Post No. 3712 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Paola.

His son, Bobby Gene Moon, preceded him in death.

Surviving are his mother, Lennie Mae Canon of Paola; his daughters, Katherine Spalding of Riverside, Calif., and Jeannie Mae Stem of Red Oak, Okla.; his stepdaughter, Billie Sue Maxey, also of Red Oak; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Services were Friday in Wilson and Son Funeral Home in Paola. Burial was in Louisburg Cemetery.

Russell Floyd Spillman
JUNE 5, 1924 - DEC. 4, 2004

Russell Floyd Spillman, 80, a lifelong resident of Blue Mound, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004, in Medicalodge of Fort Scott.

The son of Floyd Thorton and Della Pauline Laird Spillman, he was born June 5, 1924, in Blue Mound where he grew up and graduated from high school in 1942.

Mr. Spillman farmed for two years before joining the U.S. Navy in April 1944. He was a seaman 1st class RM of the 7th Fleet in the Pacific Area-Philippine Islands where he served as a radio communicator for two years.

After his military service, he farmed and worked as a carpenter in addition to working for the Bourbon County Agricultural Soil and Conservation Service for 37 1/2 years.

He and Lela Ann Johnson were married June 18, 1950.

His memberships included the United Methodist Church in Blue Mound and the Xenia Lodge No. 47, A.F.&A.M.

Known to many as "Smiley," he enjoyed coon hunting, going to dances, card parties and being with his grandchildren.

Those preceding him in death were four brothers, Clifford Spillman, Ray Spillman, Roy Spillman and Lloyd Spillman.

Survivors include his wife, Lela Ann Spillman of Blue Mound; two sons, Michael Allen Spillman of Prairie Village and Kenneth Floyd Spillman of Mound City; a daughter, Patricia Lynne Crystal of Fort Scott; and eight grandchildren.

Services were today in the church. Arrangements were under the direction of Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home in Mound City. Burial was in the Sunny Slope Cemetery in Blue Mound.

Memorials may be made to the church, Xenia Lodge No. 47 or the Veteran's Administration Hospital activity fund.

Hoyt Glenn Warford
DEC. 11, 1920 - DEC. 2, 2004

Hoyt Glenn Warford, 83, Linn Valley, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2004, in his home.

Known as Glenn, he was born Dec. 11, 1920, the son of Mamie and Ell Warford. He and Patsy Lou Davis were married Sept. 21, 1946, in Abilene, Texas. Mrs. Warford died Dec. 28, 2002.

Mr. Warford was a member of a U.S. Navy Seabee construction battalion during World War II.

In 1952, the family moved to Kansas City, Mo., where he worked as an estimator for KC Structural Steel Co., retiring in 1986.

He was a member of the Linn Valley Community Church, where he served as a deacon and was also president of the Linn Valley Ruritan Club and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4347 in Drexel, Mo.

Mr. Warford was also on the Linn Valley City Council and the rural water district board.

Survivors include his daughter, Terry Hardesty of Overland Park; his son, Thomas Monroe Warford of Kansas City, Mo.; two brothers; a sister; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services were Monday in the church. Burial was in Mount Moriah Cemetery in Kansas City, Mo. Arrangements were under the direction of D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel.

Memorials may be made to the church, 3413 South Linn Valley Drive, Linn Valley, KS 66040.

Annette Weers
JULY 11, 1948 - DEC. 1, 2004

Annette Weers, 56, Edgerton, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2004, in Olathe Medical Center.

The daughter of Earl and Barbara Cupp Fuller, she was born July 11, 1948, in Olathe.

Her parents preceded her in death.

Survivors include three sons, Don Fuller of Florida and Dusty Weers and Shawn Weers, both of Osawatomie; two daughters, Melissa Westfall and Beverly Weers, both of Edgerton; four brothers, Leland Fuller, J.R. Fuller, Ernie Fuller and Mike Fuller; and four sisters, Beverly Weers, Marlene Sartin, Barbara Dill and Vickie Steggeman.

Graveside services were Monday in the Prescott Cemetery.

Contributions may be made to the Annette Weers Memorial Fund in care of Coffel-Schneider Funeral Home, P.O. Box 525, Pleasanton, KS 66075.

Frank Brenner, 78, Chanute, Kan., the brother of Mary Theresa Morrison of Paola, died Nov. 29, 2004.

Almon Alonzo Folsom, 85, Weaubleau, Mo., the father of Jimmy Folsom of La Cygne, died Nov. 23, 2004.

Jerry E. Hoyt
Jerry E. Hoyt, 60, Pomona, Kan., the brother of Delma Colegrove of Paola, died Nov. 30, 2004.

Frank J. Falke
Frank J. Falke, 96, Westphalia, Kan., the father of Sister Jane Falke of Paola, died Dec. 6, 2004 in Overland Park. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Teresa Catholic Church in Westphalia. Memorials are to the St. Teresa Parish, Ursuline Sisters or Villa St. Joseph in care of Farris-Feuerborn Memorial Chapel, P.O. Box 408, Garnett, KS 66032.
